Aug 16, 2010I am reading a textfile and extracting information from each line. For example string1 and string2. I am then writing these string to a datatable.
However, sometimes there will be repeats in string1 and string2.
If there are repeated lines I would like to be able to delete the repeating line and add a counter to find the total number of repeating lines.
so if a string repeates 3 times I would like there to be a column with a 3 displayed next to the line in my datatable.

This is before I open a project and visual studio is on the start page. The 'duplicates' do not go away even when a project is open.When project is open, Solution explorer displays duplicate images as well

I need to count the number of duplicate entries, and provide a summary (count) for each product code. This makes it easier when the order needs to be placed, and the user don't have to count each value manually.
I have tried looping through all 50 boxes to no avail. This seemed easy, but, clearly I am to thick to think of a solution.

Remove Line From Textfile?
Mar 11, 2010I am having trouble removing a line from a text file. When I click on the button in order to remove the line it gives me an error that access to the file is not possible. Now I assume that the file is in use during me wanting to change it and therefore cant save it while it is loaded in ht application. I have tried a few things but cant seem to get it to work.Essentially what it does is that I have another dialog that a used can add data, the data is then written to the file FilingLocations.txt and then it saves it and loads it again. But once the line is no longer needed I would like to have the option to remove the line agaise.

Jan 16, 2009I have my code it is able to read a text file and do checks each line if there are 7W and 5L in that particular line, if no matches it will remove that line... 1 problem i face now is that, there are duplicates in my textfile..Im not sure how am i going to remove the duplicate in the text file. I want to know if there is a way to integrate an additional function inside my code to check if that particular line is a duplicate so i can accomplish 2 tasks at 1 time... Since there are about close to 1million records in my text file.

What I'm trying to achieve is to remove every row in text file 1 where the field in column1 matches the field in column 1 textfile 2 - is this possible?I have used some basic coding in the past to remove certain lines, but nothing as complex as this.

1) search the array to find duplicates and add them to a second array, then have a second pass to remove anything which matches the second array.
2) search the array for one duplicate and store it, then search the array again to remove the duplicates, and run that process until there are no more duplicates.
Then again, I could be going about this completely the wrong way. If that's the case, feel free to knock some sense into me.

I need to remove any occurrence of 3 or more duplicate characters on a given string. For example:

Dim output As String = Regex.Replace(strTmp, "????", "")
Debug.Print(output)
The "????" part I guess should be the Regex expression, which I must assume I know almost nothing about.
I don't know if that's the correct syntax. But I need the output to come as:
"1.2 and 33"
