I am writing a hangman type game and I am displaying the word to the user in a label as all *'s, but I cannot figure out how to have just one of the *'s changed in the label to the correct letter when the user inputs the correct letter into the text box and clicks the check letter button.Everything else in the program works perfectly, except for this part.[code]When I use the .Replace it changes all of the *'s to the correct selected letter.

For each character of this string I want a new character out of the string and then remove the character from the list of characters that still maybe used for other characters. It may not get the same character, you could basically just call this encryption, but it's not what I am making. I don't want to waste my time doing this one hour while VB can do this for me in <1 second.
In VB6 and Vb2010 you can replace all of one character in a string. Is there a way to replace multiple characters in the string.

View 5 RepliesI've got a string like so
Jamie(123)
And I'm trying to just show Jamie without the brackets etc
All the names are different lengths so I was wondering if there was a simple way of replacing everything from the first bracket onwards?
Some others are displayed like this
Tom(Test(123))
Jack ((4u72))
I've got a simple replace of the bracket at the moment like this
mystring.Replace("(", "").Replace(")","")
What i am trying to do is take a character (which is going to be into a variable by user input) and search a string for this character, and save the positions of all character found and then change the same position of these characters in another string for the character that the user inputs. In other words, like a guess a word game. User tryes a guess, i search the string for that letter or number, if it's there replace it on the text box of the GUi, if not save it in another variable as a character that has been tried already, possibly an array.

View 4 RepliesI am trying to remove a last character of a string. This last char. is a newline (system.environment.newline)
I have tried some things but I can not remove it.
Example:
myString.Remove(sFP.Length - 1)
Example 2:
myString= Replace(myString, Environment.NewLine, "", myString.Length - 1)
How I can do it?
I am trying to remove everything AFTER a specified character in a string. The string is just the Environ("username") and the local machine's IP address separated by a colon. IE username:127.0.0.1.. I have tried everything I could possibly think of in the last hour to do this with one or two lines of code and can't wrap my head around it.

I'm trying to build a list that will be used as the in clause of a select statement. The requirement is to have the user enter a comma separated list of descriptions. Each description can contain spaces so I can't remove the spaces before splitting by comma to add the single quotes around each description. I want to remove all white space after a single quote since no description will start with a space. What's the best way to do this in VB.NET? Regular expression or a string function? Here's what I have so far.

The code sample is provided contains a VBScript function to parse a string, replacing or removing any character found in the array declared at the beginning of the function.VBScript String Clean Function - Remove/Replace Illegal CharatersThe function was originally writted to remove illegal characters found in a string for use as a document file name in SharePoint Document Library. To use the function, simply update the array at the beginnning of the function to include all of the characters which are to be removed or replaced. If replacing specific characters with something else, the you will need to set inside the finction the string which will replace each character if found. The VBScript function then returns a cleaned string.VBScript String Clean Function - Remove/Replace Illegal CharatersBlogs: SharePoint Development | Web Development & Programming | Webmaster resources & free SEO
View 1 RepliesI am working on a sub that essentially needs to open a text file, and replace all instances of a certain character with a unicode character. I'm trying to do this by reading the original text file byte by byte, converting it to a character, and then either adding that character to a memory stream or writing the unicode character to the memory stream. Then I'm saving the memory stream to the original file.

This change, I believe, is stopping the import of the file from working. I would like to replace the new format YYYY-MM-DD back to YYYYMMDD in the code. If possible I'd also like to see some output so I know that the old format has been replaced with the new format. The code is below. I added the two rows with .replace code in green in expecting that to be enough but it is still not working.
