How can I find words like and, or, to, a, no, with, for etc. in a sentence using VB.NET and remove them. Also where can I find all words list like above.
View 4 RepliesDoes anyone know how to do this? I'm stuck on a boat right now out to sea(Navy) and don't have access to vb.NET, its in my berthing...
So someone clarify this code and see if it works?
Dim index As Integer = list.FindIndex(Function(value As String)
Return value(0) = "STRING HERE"
End Function)
I'm having issues with finding something in list, and removing the item, ignoring the case of characters in string.
The code goes:
Dim listItems As New List(Of String)
Dim pattern As String = "AbC"
Dim array() As String
array = {"ABC", "abc"}
listItems.AddRange(array)
Here I'd like to remove all items from listItems, that are abc, no matter what case single characters of item are, including mixed case items. So in this example, every items should be removed
listItems.Remove(listItems.Find(Function(r) r = pattern))
If I change pattern to match the case of item, then item #2 gets removed:
pattern = "abc"
listItems.Remove(listItems.Find(Function(r) r = pattern))
How can I find item in listItems, ignoring the case characters in pattern?
I have a site that dynamically creates two arrays of Lat/Long values based on the stores that the currently logged in user can see. If the user can only see one location then I get an error about array length needing to be a finite integer. When I look at the source I see var ls = new Array(45.056124);is being created on the page dynamically which is what I'm expecting. Except I think it is treating it as if I am trying to set the length of the array instead of set the first element to that value.How do I go about creating an array using the ClientScript.RegisterArray Declarationfunction to hold a single double value using vb.net?

I have a string array (values) whose elements look like this
1xxx:val:timestamp
1xx1:val:timestamp
and so on....
and a datatable that contains all the valid ids (the 1xxx numbers) and their corresponding names. I need to check whether or not the table contains the id and if it does i need to get its name.
This is my current code
Dim tbl as DataTable = GetTable("Select ......")
tbl.PrimaryKey = New DataColumn() {tbl.Columns("sensor_id")
For each value as string in values
[Code]....
but it seems like it is a round about way since I already know the element exists in the table and the select statement returns an array which i dont need because I know there will only be one datarow associated with this id. I feel like there should be an easier or actually more efficient way of doing this. If not oh well but I had to check anyway.
but this returns an array of datarows when i know I am only going to get one datarow from this query
Is there a program where i can launch a website, click on a button or textfield and it will give me the getElementByID? I searched around for this and i have found nothing? Why doesn't this exist? I am writing a program that will enter information into a copiers web interface for scanning. The problem is the copier's web interface uses Java and XML. I cannot get my program to enter the information into the apprioate field because i cant find the tag to reference it! its very annoying, this is the last stage to my program.

If I want to change a single element of one of the elements of the array, for example the DayHi field of the 0th element, then the code ATRList(0).DayHi = 4 causes the error: Error3Expression is a value and therefore cannot be the target of an assignment. Now I could get round this by reading all the items out of the 0th element into newATR, changing the field I'm interested in and then doing a "ATRList(n) = newATR" but there must be an easier way?

mydiv.CssClass.Replace("forceHeight", ""); I'm not so sure how you do this using VB? Intellisense doesn't offer me this option?

For each character of this string I want a new character out of the string and then remove the character from the list of characters that still maybe used for other characters. It may not get the same character, you could basically just call this encryption, but it's not what I am making. I don't want to waste my time doing this one hour while VB can do this for me in <1 second.
I want the Function to accept List(Of String), Array & String and similarly return List(Of String), Array & String respectively. The Function simply adds a string (month) to the input collection. I just want to use it for string, array and list with needing to think of conversions.

I have a table with many values inside of it that might have single quotes around them. I need to create a duplicate table without those single quotes. I can't modify the original table as I need to use it, 'as-is' later.
I've done this with a table.Clone and using a foreach to loop through the rows and columns removing single quotes as I need and then putting that new row into the new table. It works and it's straight forward.....but
I'd like to do the same thing using LINQ. This was my attempt....
Dim myResults = From myRow In dtTable _
From myItem In myRow.ItemArray _
Where TypeOf myItem Is String AndAlso _
myItem.ToString.StartsWith("'"c) AndAlso _
myItem.ToString.EndsWith("'"c)
I had trouble finding examples that weren't looking at a specific column in the DataRow. It looks like my code does pull back all the matching results - but I'm at a lose for how I can create a duplicate table/modify the values?
The only requirement is to not using a For Each; as I already know how to do that. I've gotten closer - but I still can't seem to create a new row or a new table.
My new approach hits a dead-end when I try to do this:
Dim MyNewRow As New Data.DataRow With {.ItemArray = myRemovedQuotes.ToArray}
The Error message I get says, "Error 1'System.Data.DataRow.Protected Friend Sub New(builder As System.Data.DataRowBuilder)' is not accessible in this context because it is 'Protected Friend'."
give me a working regex expression (C#/VB.NET) that can remove single line comments from a SQL statement ?I mean these comments:
-- This is a comment
not those
/* this is a comment */
because I already can handle the star comments.I have a made a little parser that removes those comments when they are at the start of the line, but they can also be somewhere after code or worse, in a SQL-string 'hello --Test -- World' Those comments should also be removed (except those in a SQL string of course - if possible).Surprisingly I didn't got the regex working. I would have assumed the star comments to be more difficult, but actually, they aren't.
As per request, here my code to remove /**/-style comments (In order to have it ignore SQL-Style strings, you have to subsitute strings with a uniqueidentifier (i used 4 concated), then apply the comment-removal, then apply string-backsubstitution.
static string RemoveCstyleComments(string strInput)

string strPattern = @"/[*][wds]+[*]/";

Now I find myself needing to do both Foo() and Bar() if value is "7" - is there a simple way to do this with an If condition?
[Code]...
I don't want to have to declare & initialize two lists if I can avoid it. Edit: I should have mentioned that this is a simplified example - there are actually a dozen or so CASE statements, and Foo() and Bar() are actually placeholders for quite a bit more code - it's seeing the same block of code repeated over and over that got me thinking about a better way to do it.

I am new to Vb.net so I will need some handholding. I have been searching everywhere but can't find what I need.I'm creating an app that has two forms.Each form has two comboboxes.The comboboxes are populated via a list and the list is populated by reading a text file for each combobox.The second form is called from the main form to modify the entries in the comboboxes. When I select the displaymember in the combobox a value corresponding to that entry is displayed in the text box.Now here is what I need.
I need to be able to append new values to the list so when focus is returned to the main form the new value is present. I'm using a combobox and a textbox on the second form as the import.The combobox is used to either select a present value to be able to modify the value in the textbox, or is used to add a new list element.

I have a VB.net console app and I am opening a function in a dll written in fortran. I am passing 3 arrays through the function by reference. When they come back out the otherside they ahve all tunred to arrays of only one element And that element is 0.I read on the internet somewhere that when doing this kind of thing it is a good idea to only pass the first element of the array into the function.I tried changing my function declaration to accepting single elements rather than single dimensional arrays, and now the arrays are the same length before and after the function call, but they don't seem to be changing at all, so i'm not sure that this is working

I am working with LINQ to XML in VB (although answers in C# are great, too). First off- my code works, so this is not critical. However, I can't help but think that what I'm doing with conditional logic should already be doable using the LINQ query itself. Here's what I've got:
'Get the Description elements in the ResultData section where the value is "Op Code"
Dim opCodes As List(Of XElement) = (From c In xdoc.Descendants("ResultData").Descendants("Description")
Where c.Value = "Op Code"[code].....
Please don't be too critical of my method of locating the sibling nodes- the XML files are produced by a third-party testing device and this is the only generic way to get the values I need. What I'm really looking for here is a better way to handle the If block.

unordered text file of 3 columns to assign into 2 arrays. I've been given a graphing component which expects a two dimensional array for a scatter graph for the set of values in the last column.
How would I parse through the list given an indexed array of 215 possible 'zone alarm locations' and if an alarm log list item, of which there can more than one for any given zone location, compare in the two dimensional array any previous value and replace it with the higher valued one? The following are my declarations for the 2 arrays. It isn't clear to me why the array for the scatter data was defined as (999,1) knowing there are only 215 possible x values (alarm zone locations)
