View 1 RepliesIn a vb 2010 project, I have 2 win forms: Form1 and Form2.
In the Form1 class there is a server-based timer: when the "elapsed event" fires, then I update the text of a Label1 on the Form2. A very simple code:
Is there a way to automatically resize a windows form to fit a smaller display? I created a program on a computer with a 12" display, everything works fine. However, when I load the same program on a computer with a 8" display, I am not able to view all the contents on the windows form. Is there a way to correct this without manually resizing all the contents on the form?

View 7 RepliesI'm creating a windows application form in vs 2005 for a client.. It's a data-tracking application. I have a few questions. The client wants a logon screen to be added into the application (at least any way or method that'll ensure that security was applied). My question in regards to this topic would be; Is it necessary to create a logon screen (or even a user authorization) for a windows form? I realize that in a webform project, security should always be considered and should be applied in all areas. Although with a windows form, I thought you can authorize who can gain access to the application by defining which workstations to install the final production release of the application (when its time to deploy the file). Is this correct?
My next question is, what is the best method to exporting data from EXCEL to SQL tables? I have many Excel files that I'd like to take portions of data from each file and insert them to there proper table.
The last question is about deploying a windows form application. As you can tell, I don't have much experience when it comes to developing Windows Form projects. Anyways back to the topic, When deploying a project, does it provide a .EXE file (installation package) to install the application on the workstation? Or is it a .EXE file of the application, where you can run it and no need to install anything?
I want my console application to be able to do one function I have when you click one option on the windows context menu, and another function when you click another option.

View 2 RepliesI have a Windows form which contains a DataGridView within a GroupBox which is within a TabPage which is within a TabControl. The scrollbars property is set to 'Both' so that the user can scroll down to see all available rows in the grid.
I want the Windows Form to initialize to allow the user to see 7 rows but to expanded vertically to the size of 32 rows which is the maximum possible in this application.
Is there a way to size the form dynamically so the Form's Height property can be changed as the DataGridView's rowcount increases?
I am trying to figure the best way to programmatically re-size table column headers in ReportViewer.Basically, my current resolution is the following: ColumnWidth = Header Caption_CharacterCount * 0.32...Where 0.32 is an estimated width of a typical character using my current font size. The issue is that the width leaves a lot of whitespace for longer captions. The more characters a caption has, the more whitespace I end up with. The issue with estimating this way is that not all characters are the same width. A good example would the the "I" character, which takes up less screen width than the rest of the alphabet.[code]
View 1 RepliesSince we have to resize the combo box dropdown area based on the combo box item length, used the drawstring() to add items to combo based on the item length. This gave us the below issue: On moving the cursor on the drop down area the font color and the background color are back hence the text is not readable (i.e. the whole item becomes black).
Below piece of code is used to achieve this,
Private Sub cboClient_DrawItem(ByVal
sender As
Object,
ByVal e
As System.Windows.Forms.DrawItemEventArgs)
[Code] .....
We tried changing font color and the dropdown area backcolor on selecting a particular item. How to make the text readable (i.e. the font color should change while if we scroll on the item).
how can I automatically resize Datagridview based on Column Header width? these code is not working for me:
[Code]...
I have this code:
Private Sub EditPage_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load'TODO: This line of code loads data into the 'InventorySysDataSet.tb_master_products' table. You can move, or remove it, as needed.
Me.Tb_master_productsTableAdapter.Fill(Me.InventorySysDataSet.tb_master_products)
sqlCnn = New SqlConnection("Data Source=ZEREYSQLEXPRESS2008;Initial Catalog=InventorySys;Integrated Security=SSPI")
[Code]...
what i want to do is to automatically change the selected option of the cboProductCode on page load depending on the result of a query executed onload also.
Not a query, just mentioning a problem that might affect others, assuming it is not just some wierd bug on my system, that is. Perhaps someone can check this out.Under screen resolution, Windows 7 has a "make text larger option". On my machine at least, this has the effect of increasing the sizes/positions of any controls set in design mode. Not just in executable, it actually changes the values in design mode.
If you are relying on rescaling sizes/position set in design mode according to screen resolution only you may get incorrect positions when this mode is in use. This affects both VB.net and VB6.
Just a quick question, I want to stop the end users from being able to resize a GUI that I've created.
$objForm = New-Object System.Windows.Forms.Form
$objForm.Text = "ADX v2.1.2.0"
$objForm.minimumSize = New-Object System.Drawing.Size(965,665)
[code].....
What is the best way to resize & move a form using just VB commands? I have a form that I need to set the Height and Top props, problem is that takes two calls and there is a noticable flicker. I tried using SuspendLayout/ResumeLayout, DoubleBuffered, swaping the top and height calls around, etc, but nothing seems to help. The test forms only have one small listview and one or two buttons. [Code]
View 2 RepliesI have an application developed in VB.net with 3.5 framework. I have disabled close (X) button on the main form of the application while doing some processing. I have achieve disabling by "Overriding ReadOnly Property CreateParams()" of the form. This is working fine as both control button on form and close option on right click in the taskbar shows disabled. This fulfill my needs on the Windows XP OS but not on Windows 7 OS. As in Windows 7 right click on application icon in taskbar shows a different menu, which has a new "Close window" option.
The close in original menu still shows disabled (this old menu is hidden but can be shown by holding Shift key and right click on the application icon in taskbar). Now I need to disable this "Close window" option as well and only for my application.
Is there a method through which I can do this programmatically.

View 2 RepliesI been reading about the windows services in the msdn but I get lost quick because I'm not sure what it is that I actually need. I'm only using the standard version. Any pointers on how I can give a user the option to install my executable as a service so that it can run when no one is logged in.

Basically I want everything to look in the same position whether its a small window or big or at least that it has scroolbars if I see it small.

I did some research and i found that i will need to edit the registry. So if i make a folder called "Get Path" in the ContextMenuHandlers folder. When i click on the file in windows explorer or desktop etc i will have the option called "Get Path".Now for the value key what do i put inside? What i want is when the user right - clicks on the file my program starts up and displays the path of that file on a msgbox or listbox. I was thinking of letting the Windows Installer (.msi) doing this for me.
