Return Lync Presence With Program?
Dec 8, 2011
I am working on a solution to a problem at work where we can't tell if someone is on the phone or just sitting there. We use Microsoft Lync to place our calls and I was hoping to be able to add a bit of code to an existing .net application to show the presence of the person logged into the machine. That info will send that out via USB to an indicator light I previously built.
So basically I am trying to create a .net version of those 'ON AIR' lights you see at radio stations.
I have been searching for the last few days and haven't found a solution. I also downloaded the Microsoft Lync Controls SDK, but no luck with that either.

I am currently using the following code to check for the presence of an entry in a table. I choose this code because I thought it was a good idea to use a public function to reduce the amount of code required. It works fine until the field I am checking for contains a' character.I realise I need to use a parameter like @name but cannot work out how to pass the correct information to the public function.how to amend my existing code so I can use @staffNo.
Imports System.Data.SqlClient
Dim PaddedStaffNo As String
PaddedStaffNo = (TextBox2.Text.PadLeft(4, "0"c))[code].......

How would I check a given string for the presence of any match with a character listed in another string. I'm just looking for a binary result.
In other words, how would I write the VB.NET function called IsPresent in the following code snippet?
Result = IsPresent(AnyString, MyTestString)
For example, if MyTestString = "XYZ" then I want the following results for the given AnyString values:
MUTTON, Result = No
BUZZ, Result = Yes
HAPPY, Result = Yes
FISH, Result = No

If Item.Text.IndexOf("W:") = -1 Then

Everything is written in codes:
vb
'CHECK IF "sIntroSequence" IS AVAILABLE IN TEXT FILE. Dim checkthevalue As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.ReadAllText("c: est.txt") If checkthevalue.Contains("sIntroSequence") Then '"INTRO SEQUENCE" STRING IS AVAILABLE. 'CHECK
[code]....
I can't seem to get the checkbox checked according to presence of a particular string in a text file. It looks like it should work but it doesn't.

What I need to do is to have my program look at 2 different values then return a value.
Here's an example:
If my tube material = SA-214 and the tube gauge = 20 then my tube wall thickness = .032. The thing is I have 5 different types of tube material and 12 different tube gauges so based on which tube material is selected and which tube gauge is selected the tube wall thickness will vary. So if I select a TM of SA214 and a TG of 14 then my tube wall will be .076.

I have a VB.Net program that will basically make a query to a remote MS-SQL DB using TSQL, return two columns (normally 4 rows/records), 1 is a datetime and 1 is a double. I will then need to return the average of the doubles (which is easy in VB.NET).
As I will need to run this query perhaps 1000 times an hour (programmatically with different input parameters for the query), I am looking for the most efficient way to code this up so that it will take the shortest time to run. I tried SQLDataAdapter and then using dataAdapter.Fill and sometimes it returns an empty set although the raw select query has values returned.

I'm working in an environment (XP SP3, Office 2007) where not everybody has the "Microsoft Save As PDF or XPS Add-in" installed on their workstations. I'm looking for a way to programmatically test for the presence of the add-in within an Access 2007 module.
I was using a loop through the Application.COMAddIns collection to test for the presence of the "Adobe PDFMaker Office COM Addin" but that no longer works when Adobe Acrobat is removed from the machine.

A long time ago, on a PC far, far away from Windows, one MS-DOS program (the father) could run / execute / spawn another MS-DOS program (the son). When the son terminated, it could set a return code which could certainly be interrogated by an MS-DOS batch program or, I think, by any father program that invoked it (depending on the language in which that program was written). I have a small utilility which I want to invoke from my application, and, since that utility sets a return code, I would like to interrogate it in my application when the utility terminates. I've looked through the MSDN Library but could not find anything that seemed to cover this situation. Is there a way to do this in Visual Basic 2008 Express

I'm looking for a solution for making the program response to the enter/return key inside a textbox. After browsing the forum I end up with this
Private Sub TextBox1_KeyPress(ByVal Keyasii As Integer)
If Keyasii = 13 Then
Label1.Text = TextBox1.Text
End If
End Sub
As this seems to be the answer to the problem, I still can't make it work. I just get a 'beep' and nothing happens.

I'm working up a system where I plan on using RealProxy objects to enable intercepting method calls against a set of objects, handling the call, and then returning appropriate results. This works just find for simple return types like strings or ints, but I can't seem to return objects from the RealProxy.Invoke method. Everything works. I get no errors, but the returned value is always NOTHING, instead of an object.
I've worked up the smallest sample code I could, and have included it below. Essentially, just call RPtest and single step through. The code creates a simple object, RPTestA, with a string field and an object valued field It then retrieves the string

In order to return a value from a VB.NET function one can assign a value to the "Functions Name" or use "return value." I sometimes see these inter-mixed in the same function. Personally, I prefer the return. My question is, what is the internal difference, if any, between the two?
