Return Value For Command.ExecuteNonQuery Function

Apr 3, 2009

What value will be returned from below execution with select, insert, update, delete?

Dim L_EXECUTED_NO1 As Integer = command.ExecuteNonQuery()
Dim L_EXECUTED_NO2 As Integer command.ExecuteReader()
Dim L_EXECUTED_NO2 As Integer = command.ExecuteScalar()

For example, I tried "Dim L_EXECUTED_NO1 As Integer = command.ExecuteNonQuery()" with Update SQL statement and that returned "-1". But it returned 1 for Delete SQL statement.

If Query_SQL("EXEC SP_ATT_CLOCK_INOUT_UPDATE '" & L_TODAY_DT & "', '" & L_EMP_ID & "', '" & L_START_TM & "', '" ) = True Then
MsgBox("Successfully saved!", MsgBoxStyle.Information)
End If

ExecuteNonQuery Not Throwing Error When Command Is Wrong

Oct 7, 2010

I'm passing in a sql command such as "EXEC StoredProc 0" into a a function called ExecMyCommand where StoredProc is a stored procedure taking a parameter of 1 or 0.It works fine with the following code.I had tried to judge success by looking at NumRowsAffected but soon realized that the -1 could represent a successful run even if -1 was the return value.So then I changed the code and return mLastRunOutcome = False if there is an error.So for testing I changed the name of the SP to like StoredProc2 in the database and ran the same command "EXEC StoredProc 0" and to my amazement, no errors were thrown in the code below..Of course ran the same command in Query Analyzer and it barked that there was no SP by that name.How do I know when a command ran successfully or not in code here? and Why didn't the ExecuteNonQuery throw an error when the command was not right??[code]

VS 2010 - MySQL Command - Not Running The Cmd2.executenonquery

Dec 29, 2011

Imports MySql.Data.MySqlClient
Public Class Form1
Dim myTime As Date = TimeValue(Now)
Dim myDate As Date = DateValue(Now)

[CODE]..................

It'ss not running the cmd2.executenonquery. I've tried many different things such as opening a different connection and yet it still doesnt run that line of code, but it'll run the message box in the if then statement. So I assume it's something to do with the connection somewhere. I've also tried using try and catching the error. nothing. So the problem is that its just not running query2.

Return An (Anonymous Type With A Function) From A Function?

Mar 3, 2011

Just so it's known, this question is mostly academic, even though I tried to use the concept in a real-world solution. I realize the example is contrived, but I believe the concept is valid.I want to write some fluent code like this:

[code]...

I realize that I can't force an anonymous type into a specific type (like implementing an interface or some other class), and I don't want the overhead of defining a specific class just to match my desired fluent name with the actual method name. So I was able to make the code work like this:

copy(my_first_file).to.Invoke(my_second_file)So there is no IntelliSense or type awareness there, and I have to include the Invoke in order to have the method run. How can I get more type safety and exclude the Invoke method, under these constraints: Anonymous Type returned from Method No additional classes or interfaces Preferably, I do not want to pass in another parameter to the copy() method that tells what type to return, unless copy becomes a generic method (but I think that means defining another class/interface, which I don't want to do)

Want I want to do is run a command line code and simply return a boolean of if it was successful or not. Is this possible? Typically when you run something (example net user User Pass) it will return a value "The command Completed Successfully." If I return this value I will have it from there.

VS 2008 - Process.Start AT Command - Return ID

How do I get this ID in my code, as it's needed if I want to delete the scheduled job? I've tried looking at some of the properties of myProc but haven't found the right one yet. Maybe I need to wait until the process has completed? (If so, how will I know?).

Dim tmpSales As Decimal

CmdSales = New System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand("SELECT SUM(Total) FROM Sales WHERE Date>= '1 Jan 2011' And Date<= '30 Jan 2011", ConDB)tmpSales = CmdSales.ExecuteScalar

C# - Make A Windowless / Command-line Application Return But Continue Executing In Background?

Feb 15, 2011

I'm writing a command-line application in .Net. The app itself is fairly simple, but it has to connect synchronously to a web-service, which in turn has to connect to a Oracle database, and those pieces are fond of taking their time.

Is there a straightforward way (without dividing my app exe in two) to continue executing but nonetheless yield execution to the command prompt?

It's Windows, so no "&". Also, I cannot use cmd.exe's "start" cmdlet.

But it does not !

When you run these lines, then you will see that IsNothing(d) evaluates to False

How To Use A Function's Return Value

Mar 8, 2009

So the program I am writing validates the controls on the page on button_click.

I want to write a function which checks which step the program is at (0-7) then return something depending on whether or not it validated.

My plan was to return the control which was not valid.

Private Function ValidateInputs() As Control
Select Case wizardStep
Case 0

[Code].....

1. could I return the names off all the controls which did not validate?

2. should I be returning a control type or would something like a string be better?

Return NaN From A Function?

Oct 5, 2010

I've created my own version of HexToDec() to properly handle the negative flag. I saw other versions online that used "Not(value)" to do the Pos/Neg inversion, but that does not generate the proper value... No, it's not the most elegant my any means. But I couldn't find anything online that actually worked.

Long story short, I want to return NaN in the case that the function is passed a string that is not a valid hex string...

How do I do that? Everything I've tried generates a compiler error... (assign return value to double.nan, assign return value to non-numeric, etc)

Existing function is below:

Function HexToDec(ByVal hexStr As String, Optional ByVal signed As Boolean = False) As Long
Dim lngFinal As Long

[Code].....

CLR - Function/Operator Without Return Value?

Sep 4, 2009

I've create a new project, and set treat all warnings as errors in the compile tab.All the other warnings seem to be treated as errors, except the one which I'm interested in "Function/Operator without return value".I have a simple function within a class, which does not show an error if I do not add a return statement to that function. I have read in many places that VB.Net returns a "hidden" default value if the returns statement is forgotten.My software went out to production where an overloaded function was missing a return statement, which wasn't highlighted due to the above.
