I've used Visual Basic on and off for years, but for some reason this has never crossed my path, though it's probably relatively simple.
I have a program which runs in the background, in the System Tray. (Which is to say it has a NotifyIcon and is Hiding.) Using the Registy, I've added a new item to the right-click menu for certain files (for example PDF) which reads "Accept".
The goal is to have this open the file in my program and have it run the script. The script itself works flawlessly with an Open Dialog box - all it does is change the "comments" on the file. But I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it without the dialog box.
I designed a advanced music player, everything is ok, I create the setup, install my computer. Here is my problem, there is a mp3 file at my desktop, right click, Open with, Select my program. But, I realise that I didn't write any code for that. Shortly, I want to when double click on mp3 file. And it should be opened with my program..
Im using visual basic 2010 and im building a program that will basically, you click on something in the list it will automatically open a .dat file pull the information that it needs, and then proceed to enter it into a box on the right. Well heres my issue i know how to do everything else but i cant seem to imitate this image, i need to know how i can make a list like this where the whole row is selectable, and the items/subitems are divided.
My VB.net framework 4 windows program work fine for the users on Windows XP machines if they are in the local Administrator Group. I would like to setup this click once application to run as an administrator so the user doesn't need to be in the Administrator group. The program is reading the"C:Documents and Settings" & User & "Local SettingsTemp" folder looking for files with extension like "emf", "tmp" and "htm" and then deleting the files if they are older than 24 hours. We have a third party application that adds these file and doesn't delete them so I need the users to run this cleanup program.
im having a slight problem with my open file dialogue box, i need to be able to open the dialgue box, and click the file and open in my pdf reader, or at least load it to my other form ive created. what ive go so far:
I'm attempting to convert VB 5.0 source code to VB 2008. The converted code will then be slightly altered to facilitate its incorporation into a larger project that I'm developing in VB 2008. After using the conversion wizard (which is actually written for VB 6.0), I have 49 unresolved issues -- less than I expected. Much has changed since the days of my prowess as a programmer (Fortran in the 70's), so working my way through even as few as 49 issues will be a challenge, and will (no doubt) take me a while.
The UI for the VB 5.0 code I'm converting is a "virtual remote," with control buttons that (when clicked) trigger communication to a USB-connected device. With assistance, I've been able to develop my own "virtual remote," contained within my VB 2008 project. Eventually, I will "substitute" mine for the original. For now, though, I'm wanting to use MY "virtual remote" to trigger the original.
I have the executable for the VB 5.0 program, and can run it simultaneously with my "under-development" VB 2008 code. Problem is: I don't know how to cause a "click" on MY virtual remote to trigger a click on the original virtual remote (which is being "monitored" by the other program).
I am trying to build a simple AutoUpdate application using VB.NET. It was quite simple. That is, I put the newest ZIP file in my hosting site, and then download it using WebClient.DownloadFileAsync. After it get downloaded, I extract it using [URL]
But each time I run the unzip.exe using Process.start, Windows 7 always show Open File Security.
Is it possible for VB.NET to bypass such security restriction?
Btw, this is my code of using WebClient.DownloadFileAsync, in case any one google about it and landed on this page :
Public Class AutoUpdate Dim installationFolder As String = "C:Program Filesxyzabc" Dim updateFileNameTarget As String Private Sub btnStartUpdte_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnStartUpdte.Click
I have a program written in VB.net 2003 that are folks run under alternate credentials. Inside the app there is an option to open a UNC path to a network share. We were running Windows XP SP3 and IE6. The code is simple just a call to the explorer.exe with /root,\UNCPath. After installing IE 8 onto the machine this no longer works. Best I can tell the code is still working but now being executed in non interactive mode so nothing opens up. You can however see a new spawned explorer.exe running under the system account for each attempt at opening a UNC Path. Any ideas what IE8 could have done to cause this behavior?
Ok, I have just created build a software (Deployment) in VB.net. However, when I click on the icon open the program after installing, to my utter amazement, the program folder XXX-->Next-->Add an additional file-->Next-->Finish

For instance: If I click Analiza from grupuri, in fisiere de transmis filelistbox will open/show the content of d: rsanaliza folder and in fisiere receptionate filelistbox will open/show the content of d: ecanaliza folder.

I am writing a small visual basic application to install clean up tools quickly on any machines that we need to work on here at my workplace. I am using 4-5 cleanup programs that I have packaged into MSI's and have batch scripts that I am calling in my visual basic application to run them as silent installs. However, because I am doing the silent installs, windows always pops up with the "open file - security warning" and I have to click run for each individual program. I am wondering how to get around this from my end within the application. I know it can be disabled in windows but I am not wanting to have to go through a process on every machine that I run this program on. I would like to find a fix on the back end in my script.
so I created a file type in the Publishing options window. I save the file and it has the icon. When I double click to open, my application opens with no text. (The program is like notepad) When I open it manually (File -> Open) I see text in the text editor. How can I get the file to open when I double click?

I am creating a web page which converts binary data into a temporary file. The *.tmp file then gets converted to a *.tiff file. This all works fine.
The next step I would like to take, is for the web page to programatically go to the local *.tiff file, and simulate a double click in Windows Explorer.
This should then either Open the file, or ask what program should be used (as per all non recognized file types in windows).

I'm trying to run an EXE file using process.start.I've put in username, password and domain that it is accepting (it complains when I put the wrong password, and not when I put the right one, so it is checking etc), and that have local admin rights on the PC.However, when I try to run an EXE that's stored in Program Files, I cannot run it. It always says Access is Denied. When I copy that EXE to another folder, it runs perfectly![code]
I am having a funny problem with OpenFileDialog that I just cannot solve. Using VB.NET 2008 Pro.
Problem: I run my program and click the menu item associated with this OFD and the OFD opens fine. When I select a file and click OPEN the dialog disappears then reappears. I click OPEN again and it disposes itself then loads the proper file into a form. The same thing happens with the CANCEL button as well.
Question: How do I go about coding the OFD to open a file that has been double clicked on thus bypassing dialogresult.OK . I can't seem to find an answer to this.
We are developing an application in VB.NET that will need to accomodate remote users logging onto a Microsoft Terminal Server using RDP through the MSTSC.exe client.
Is it possible to offer an 'Upload' button which will allow the remote user to pick a file from his/her local hard drive and upload to the server ?
im having trouble opening adobe from my coding, also is my file ok or do i need to call from its folder location within the program.i need to be able to open a specific .pdf file from a whole range of file located in the program.what im getting the user to do is press 1 of about 14 buttons to select a brand. then in textbox1,enter the first part of the file name so in this case a274 (adobe runs in .pdf format so the file would be a274.pdf).at the moment i get a win32 error high lighting startinfo as the problem so im thinking its the adobe.exe is the problem.
