SAPI - How To Interrupt The Speech
Jan 17, 2012
I'm using a long string using SAPI speech and I want to be able stop the speech rather than have to listen to it babble on throughout the whole thing. So, in one function, we'll say it's the load function, it declares a speech string: [Code] I'm trying to get it to abort reading the audio but can't seem to figure out how to get it working. I've seen examples that have used SVSFlagsAsync and SVSFPurgeBefore Speak but I can't get either to be recognized and I've added (what I believe to be) the necessary resources to the library and added the imports at the top of the page. Does anyone know how to interrupt the speech?

I have a question regarding the Vista Speech API. I have written a program using the Vista SAPI to recognize commands with the inprocRecoContext in VB.NET. Everything works well so far - the speech recognition is trained for more than one voice and it works really perfect! The problem is that after a while the speech recognition engine trains itself to a specific user or even to background noise such as the tv and the recognition doesn't work anymore. When I copy back the original trained profile it works again for a day or so.So my question is: Is it possible to turn off the automatic learning of the speech recognition engine?

I'm using VB 2010, and am trying to add a simple TTS function to my program. I'm able to create a voice object, and get it to speak (Voice.Speak("whatever") with no difficulty.
The problem I'm having is that while the "whatever" is actually being spoken, the program doesn't seem to respond to input. The input does show up once the audio is through, but I really need to be able to detect some input (say, a mouse or button click) during a message and respond immediately, perhaps even stopping the audio.

Microsoft's System.io.file.exists and System.io.directory.exists can take FOREVER, especially if you're in a situation, where you've unplugged from the network and you're looking in a share.
So, to get around this, I've created a thread that times out after 3 seconds. Returning false, if the calls above haven't yet returned. To do this, my main thread passes its instance to the new thread and immediately calls:
Thread.Sleep(TimeOutInSeconds * 1000) ' Where TimeOUtInSeconds = 3
The new thread then goes and checks for the file / folder using the System.io.file.exists / System.io.directory.exists functions.
Regardless of the result, then it uses the main thread's reference to call Thread.Interrupt().
My main thread doesn't get interrupted. It stays there for the full 3 seconds. If I were to change that to 3 minutes ( and I have ), it'll sleep for 3 minutes.

I'm trying to create a Speech Recognition support for my program. I want to make it so that if I say something in my microphone, the program just writes what I said in Label1. I looked for Speech Recognition codes in MSDN and Google, but I didn't find anything useful. I found a code, but it was for VB.net, I tried but it didn't work in VB 2010.

I have written a application that searches the users computer for all files within a specified folder.Sometimes the number of files can be quite large. I would like the user to able to interrupt (end) this process. My code is handled by a button click in a VB win form.[code]I have tried various MsgBoxes that warn the user but I think a Esc Key or a Cancel button would be better.

I have an event I want to do continuously until a button interrupt is pressed.
Here's the pseudo
Click button 1:
Check if button 2 is pressed
If not, do stuff
If so, stop doing stuff
End routine
So what I currently have is this:
Dim randominteger As Integer = 0
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles StartSampleButton.Click
[Code] .....
Unfortunately, it's never breaking outside of the first loop. How to get around it?

May i know how to fire an event using the serial port interrupt method in visual basic windows form? Currently, now i am using the polling method which is using the timer event to continuously poll the port every 1sec.
But now i would like to change to the interrupt method which will fire up the same event without using the timer event.

A spreadsheet formatter that I made for the department opens and closes Excel spreadsheets in the backround. If someone opens Excel while the macro is running, it stalls the entire program. I need a way to sense Excel opening, then stop it, preferably with a message box saying what just happened.

I'm using Visual studio 2008 and microsoft sapi in a forms application. I am using text to speech which works just fine however when the computer is speaking it "bricks" the application and the main ui is unresponsive until the computer is done talking then everything returns to normal. To counter this issue I tried using the background worker thread to establish the sapi on another thread however the form is still freezing when the computer speaks. I would like to note that at this point there is nothing on the form except a tabbed window and a few buttons the form is not performing any code what so ever other then the text to speech.

I'm doing my senior project on an audio project; when I came to using the Speech SDK it was great when it was about Text to speech; but I'm finding a hard time using it the other way round; speech to text. is there any sample code to help me start off?, and is it possible to change the vocabulary list in a way that when ever I say a word that is in the list than it is written down; if it is not possible is it possible that I can use the dictation function to write words according to the phonemes I say?

I use an already developed module in VB.NET with ASP.NET to use in a web-based application? The goal is to use the speech technology without having to use another language syntax. I have a windows application that manages a local server database, but how if I want to exchange information from my local database over the internet? I am new to web services (Just developed windows applications).
