Access Vba - Console App To Return SHA512 Hash?

Jan 24, 2011

I'm trying to write a console application in VB.Net (2008) to accept a command line argument input (a password) and output the hash. I modified the code here so that it would accept an argument and I added my own salt/key but the output appears to be incorrect when compared to PHP's output for the same password and salt.I need something like this so I will have a way to get a SHA512 hash using MS Access VBA. Can you recommend a better solution than what I'm trying or point me to something simpler than the link above? I could possibly post my code here but it's quite long.

SHA512 Hash - Input String Not In Correct Format

Jun 21, 2011

I have the following function for generating sha512 hashs. The hash is generated successfully, but is causing this error when the resulting string is passed to other functions:
Input string was not in a correct format

When debugged the variable holding the returned hash (set as string) is empty. I have tried changing the type to int, int64 and byte (array and standard variable) in the function and in the calling code, which causes various other errors. How can I change the datatype correctly to solve this?

Function create_hash(ByVal password, ByVal salt)
Dim salty As String = password & salt
'convert salty password to binary to feed into hash function
Dim encText As New System.Text.UTF8Encoding()
Dim btText() As Byte
[Code] .....

Calling code:
Dim i_h_pass As String
Dim i_pass As String = pass.Text
'handle password generation (matching passwords checked at validation)
Dim newHash = New hashing
Dim salt As String = Convert.ToString(newHash.create_salt)
i_h_pass = Convert.ToString(newHash.create_hash(i_pass, salt))

The create_salt function has also been checked - it works perfectly and returns a random integer, returned as string for convenience.

Hash - Encrypt A String Using HmacSHA256 In .NET?

May 8, 2009

I need to create a keyed hash for a string of XML to send to a 3rd party. This is the code I am using but it is producing a different hash then the example the 3rd party has sent me.

Public Shared Function HashString(ByVal StringToHash As String) As String
Dim myEncoder As New System.Text.UTF32Encoding
Dim Key() As Byte = myEncoder.GetBytes(My.Settings.PortalHASH)
Dim XML() As Byte = myEncoder.GetBytes(StringToHash)

[code]....

It needs to be base-64 encoded, which is why I have the last line.

Salt / Hash And Encrypt Pwd In Database

Jun 11, 2011

Im a final year student for COmputer Security / Forensic. Im planning to do a project which requires me to do encryption and decryption. My possible choice of language would be VB.Net. I was wondering if wad is running in my mind can be executed. Well, I would make a application where a part of it wil be promting the guest to register and I wanted to store the password in the database. I did some research and came across Salting and Hashing. I was wondering if is it possible to get the password which the user enters, salt it, hash it and encrypt it before I store in the database. If so, what is the best secured strong encryption can I use in VB.net. Because through out the research I have done, i have sen RInjdael as the most fav encryption algo which alot of programmers using.

Encryption - Encrypt In .NET With AES-256 And Decrypt In Air?

Jul 28, 2011

I am trying to encrypt a zip in VB.NET to send to an android device using Air. Then once its on the device, decrypt it using the key and IV.

Here is part of my VB.NET Code:

Private Sub EncryptBytes(ByVal fileIn As String, ByVal fileOut As String, ByVal pass As String, ByVal ivString As String)
Dim crypt As New RijndaelManaged
crypt.KeySize = 256

[Code]...

This is not working ... Note that I tried to write a PKCS7 class based on a Java class I found. The hurlant package I downloaded only had PKCS5. VB.NET did not provide any of the same padding classes as hurlant comes with. I wish I could using "None" but I couldn't get passed the error in VB.I think there may also be an issue with the way I am converting a string into a byte array in VB vs Air.

Decrypt Java AES 128Bit Encrypted String Which Has Been Encrypted Using Key Only (no IV) ?

Oct 14, 2010

I am attempting to find some code to use in VB.NET to decrypt a string that has been encrypted using the Java crypto libary.All of the code I have found so far uses an Initialisation Vector and Key to decrypt but the string has been encrypted using the Key only. (Using an Initialisation Vector is apperently an optional step in Java).Does anyone know of code that I can use (preferably in VB.NET but i could convert C#) to decrypt AES 128 Bit encoded string without an Initialisation Vector?

I have set up a method in vb.net and in xcode for encrypting a string using as far as i can tell the same parameters for an AES encryption.I've looked all over the place but cannot find information on whether they use the same encryption algorithm and settings.

this is the vb.net code:

Write A Unit Test Assembly In C# To Test Against An Assembly Written In VB?

Probably a dumb question, but can you write a unit test project in one language to test against another project in a different language?I'd like to translate one of our VB assemblies into C#, but want to build unit tests to verify the results. I've tried to set a unit test project up to do this, but I can't seem to access the VB code within a unit test... I can't figure out if I'm just missing/doing something stupid, or it really isn't allowed.

Getting A Different Hash Value?

Nov 16, 2011

I am at a bit of a loss at the moment. What I am basically writing is the password elements of a membership system. What I do is generate a random salt value, take the registered password, combine the two and then pass the new string through a function which will generate a SHAManaged 512 hash.

I then convert the hash and salt string into Byte arrays and store these in my database.The problem comes when I then compare a login attempt against the original value I am being supplied with a completely different hash for the password being presented by the user, even though it should be exactly the same.

Here is my code when someone registers their new account:

C# - Getting Hash Of A List Of Strings?

Mar 21, 2009

I would like to write a function GetHashCodeOfList() which returns a hashcode of a list of strings regardless of order. Given 2 lists with the same strings should return the same hashcode.

ArrayList list1 = new ArrayList()
list1.Add("String1");
list1.Add("String2");

[Code].....

I can first sort the list, then combine the sorted list into 1 long string and then call GetHashCode(). However sorting is a slow operation. I can get the hash of each individual string (by calling string.GetHashCode()) in the list, then multiplying all hashes and calling Mod UInt32.MaxValue. For Example: "String1".GetHashCode() * "String2".GetHashCode * ... MOD UInt32.MaxValue. But this results in a number overflow.
