SQL Server - Retrieve Records From Database

Apr 27, 2012

Here is what I'm working with:
Dim connstr = "data source=mydatasource;initial catalog=gcs_dw;persist security info=True;user id=myuser;password=mypassword;Asynchronous Processing=True"
Dim sqlquery = "SELECT * FROM Customer WHERE CITY = 'Anytown'"
Dim connection As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection(connstr)
connection.Open()
[Code] .....
As you can see, I'm attempting to display the results of the query to the commandline and currently all it is displaying is "System.Data.SqlClient.SqlDataReader". Where are the results of my sql query going and why can't I retrieve them?

Asp.net - Retrieve Records For Last Few Hours In SQL Server?

Sep 23, 2011

theyI had a asp.net (vb) web application to store work overtime (OT) records. In SQL server, the OT table likes this, e.g.:

[Code]...

As user will input previous date OT records, so the records in db will not be in sequence. the date of records#14 is before records#13. if user want to know which OT records cover the last 2 hours, the system should retrieve record #15 (90mins) & #13 (30mins) because they covers the final 2 hours. How to write the SQL statement to retrieve the records?

Update Records In SQL Server Database?

Sep 28, 2010

I am using Visual Studio 2008 for creating a Winforms app. I have connected a database to it called XStats. There is one table in it called XGames and in that table 2 fields, XIndex (the primary key field) and GameNumber. Using the following code I can add records to the database, the data is taken from a text box, but once added I cannot view them unless I shut down the app and restart it.

con.ConnectionString = connectionString
con.Open()
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand

[Code]....

The existing records in the database are displayed on the form in detailed view via a binding navigator. How can I make it so that I can view all the records in the database, even those that are added during the current session. As will be obvious, this is my first attempt at creating and using a database with a win forms app,

Move Records From An Oracle Database Into SQL Server?

May 22, 2010

A VB.net program reads the queue and calls a stored proc in SQL Server that processes and then inserts the message into another SQL Server table and then deletes the record from the oracle table.

We use a DataReader to read the records from Oracle and then call the stored proc for each of the records. The program seems to be a little slow. The stored procedure itself isn't slow. The SP by itself when called in a loop can process about 2000 records in 20 seconds. But when called from the .Net program, the execution time is about 5 records per second.I have seen that most of the time consumed is in calling the stored procedure and waiting for it to return.[code]...

Store And Retrieve Images In Sql Server Database Using Picturebox?

Apr 22, 2012

store and retrieve image in a SQL Server database with vb.net.:Well, the application in vb.net seems to have a database which can accessed by the LAN computers so the SQL Server 2005 database allows remote computers to share its database once the other computer application requests database from the server.So, every other computer has to store and retrieve images in SQL Server 2005. For example, comp1 has to store images taken into the server and retrieve it like tableadapter.

I am using bindings and tableadapters to store the details in database and retrieving information from db. Please if you have code or anything which is working for me, please post it here... how to store image and retrieve it SQL Server through vb.net provided there's LAN computers who are also sharing the SQL Server database.

Asp.net - Inserting Records From Multiple Computers In The Same Database At The Same Time In SQL Server 2005?

Nov 12, 2010

I have a web portal designed in ASP.NET in which we ask customers to enter the data. On the click of submit button all i have done is, just read the data and called a stored procedure which inserts that into a table. There seems to be a problem in SQL Server 2005 while inserting the data from multiple computers at the same time. We have tested in our lab with three computers, result is that we get the data inserted successfully in only one machine and on the other two machines we get error on page. I have used transactions in the stored procedure and also tried setting the isolation levels to READ_UNCOMMITTED, SERIALIZABLE and SNAPSHOT. Nothing seems to work properly.

Using TransactionScope - Windows Service That Reads From An Excel Spreadsheet And Imports Records Into A SQL Server 2000 Database Table

Oct 30, 2007

I have a simple Windows Service that reads from an Excel spreadsheet and imports the records into a SQL Server 2000 database table. Before it loads it checks if the file has been successfully imported before (using filename) and whether any of the records in the file have been imported before (using primary key). If these checks are ok I load the records into a datatable and then update the datatable to the database.

However, I need to do this in a transaction as I want to ignore the whole file if there is an error. The file goes to a discarded folder and the user gets an email with why the import failed. (This is likely to be because the store the record is for is not yet added to the database and the referential intergrity of the db fails). If there is no transaction the records before the failure record are imported. When the file is imported again (the store has been added to store table) the file is then rejected because duplicate records are already in the db.

Heres my code:

Currently what I have been doing is retrieving all the records then one-by-one cylcing through each record until I have the last 10. To me this seems to have a lot of over-head reading each record. I just wondered if there was a quicker way of doing it.

IDE :: Failed To Retrieve Data From The Database, Database Vendor Code 9421?

Jan 17, 2011

I have a report made in Crystal Reports XI. The report is generated and exported to PDF in visual basic script using COM interface. Generally everything is running smoothly, but in one case generation breaks with error: Failed to retrieve data from the database. Details: [Database Vendor Code 9421]

Database used is MSSQL 2005 connected over ODBC to CR XI. When I am opening report with exactly the same parameters in Designer, everything works fine.It looks like it is data related, but it is hard to trace since the whole report is pretty sophisticated. Anyway I spent half a day on crawling over Dr. Google and it seems that he has no clue what might be an issue.
