Same Program Sharing Common Datafiles?

Dec 15, 2011

I'm back to working on my program and need a little advice. I have this program on two computers and I want to set it up to access the same set of datafiles. I want the program to tell it's counterpart on the other computer that it has a certain file open so the other program will not allow that person to access the opened file. The data files are all text files. Without using SQL or outside apps, can this be done thru vb.net?

VB Program - Activex EXE Data Sharing (the Time Is A Bit Anxious)

Nov 12, 2009

I am in the main process using Activex EXE to create a sub-process, Activex EXE project inside a class module, class module which there are two instances of the event the equivalent of two threads, I defined the standard module module1.bas as public variable a, in two instances running at the same time, how the definition of public variables are not used, such as a private variable, each carrying out their respective variables of the same name! For example the implementation of a = a +1 statement, let the first instance of a run, a steady increase from 1; when executed when an instance of 2, a should be an instance of a value when the two began to increase, but also from two examples of 1,2 , ... began to increase.

Using Modules - Program That Uses A Tabcontrol - Each Tab Represents A Collection Of Common Tasks

Nov 26, 2011

I have a program that uses a tabcontrol. Each tab represents a collection of common tasks and, as one would expect, has a bunch of controls on it.

In my original version of this app, I simply put all functions/subs/etc related to a specific tab right in the main form class; I just divided them with lines and a few extra blank CRLF so I could jump from section to section within the code (literally named Tab1 Code, Tab2 Code, and so forth).

I am re-working the program and thought I'd use modules for this instead. So, I built all the forms and grabbed the code from the previous version, created a new module, then pasted the code into the module. VB.Net 2010 has choked all over this with a zillion errors. The functions/subs are all public, but they cannot see any of the controls on the main form. Every control that is in existence on the main form comes up as being not declared in the module.

This is the first time I've tried to use a module without a full class, and the first time I've tried referencing back to controls on the main form in this fashion (I've always just used it for functions/subs that I pass data to). Am I trying to do something here that shouldn't be done or...? I basically just want to create files so I can segregate the code into a more logical design.

Forms :: Listbox - Program That Takes Common Applications And Installs Them Silently Using Batch Files

Aug 21, 2010

I'm making a program that takes common applications and installs them silently using batch files. Someone would select the programs they would want to install and my program will write a giant batch file and execute it to install whatever they want. Heres the problem, After the user selects the programs they go into either one or two lists. Non Silent Installer List Or Silent installer list.

Some programs I have simply won't go silently so from there they can choose in what order they want to install these programs. Then there is a combo box that tells weather you want to install non silent programs first or last. From there you hit add to batch file and it would add everything in listbox1 and listbox2 in order. Listbox1 would contain just the text "MalwareBytes" for example. Along with Novell Groupwise and Firefox. How do I get that to add to the Batch List as a code and in order? So the user wants Malware bytes added first to the batch file. How do I add that to my batch list as a completely different code?

I keep getting the error reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference.I've tried breaking the rules a bit and making one initial sub which is public, shared, etc... but all this does is delays the error until it tries to call its first private sub.

Common .vb File For All Projects?

Apr 17, 2011

In the old VB, there is a .bas file wherein i place all the global constants there and whenever i create a new project i just include that .bas file so that all the constants i placed are automatically added to my project. Is there any way to do this on VS2008? Ill be doing dozens of Class Libraries that that needs to reference global constants.

1. Is there any other way of referencing the global constants rather than making it a shared variable in a class?

2. Also, is there a way to include a .VB file without the copying it on the local project file? My point being is that this .VB file is also being used by other Class LIbraries that i created.

Get The Data 'less Common As Possible' From A Collection?

May 15, 2011

Starting from a table like this:

| Code | Year |
---------------
| A01 | 2001 |
| A01 | 2002 |
| B01 | 2002 |
| C01 | 2003 |

I have to arrive to this:

| Code | Year |
---------------
| A01 | 2001 |
| B01 | 2002 |
| C01 | 2003 |

I have to group the first column (Code) and from the second (Year) I have to get the data 'less common as possible' compared to all the other records. I try to explain this with the example: for the code 'A01' I have 2 years: '2001' and '2002'. I have to take '2001' because it's the one that not recurs in the other records. In the case that there aren't available values 'Year' that not recurs in the other records, it's good to take whatever value.

The data are in the form of array in memory and to interact with them I'm useng some LINQ queries.

Getting Three Most Common Numbers From File?

Feb 16, 2010

Essentially, whenever my users who are logged in via a global module level variable enter a new form, their activity is "logged" in a textfile with their UserID as the name.txt and every time they visit a page it adds a new line to their log file with a number corresponding to the form they visited. For example, if they select "add a user" it will add the line "1" to their log file. Note: At the moment there is only 1 2 and 3 not 0.

I have got this far and I have got as far as creating an array which has:
Array(0) = NumberOfTimes 0 appears in the log file
Array(1) = NumberOfTimes 1 appears in the log file
etc etc

Therefore the output for this is
Msgbox(Array(0)) shows "0"
MsgBox(Array(1)) shows "4" for example and lets just say
MsgBox(Array(2)) shows "9" and
MsgBox(Array(3)) shows "1"

Therefore, finally (!) my problem is now finding which 3 are the top. I have tried various methods of sorting them but I just get "9, 4, 1, 0" rather than "2, 1, 3, 0". (By the way the end product for this is to show three links on the "welcome form" of the users 3 most visited forms). Here is a pastebin of all the rubbish I have currently tried that hasn't worked! C# - Sharing Code Between 2 Projects Without A Dll

Dec 2, 2010

How can I have code-sharing between two projects without making a dll?

The issue is: I have a tool that syncs users & groups from LDAP to a database.

Now the tool is a windows service, but testing it as such is very difficult and time consuming.

Which is why I made a console application where I can test the LDAP syncing, and then just copy the respective sourcecode-files over to the service project.

But... keeping the common files in sync is a bit of a problem. I don't want to make a dll, because this probably creates me a problem with the 3rd project, a windows installer (for the service) where I have to use ExecutingAssembly path...

Is there a way to share the code without making a separate dll? Automagic statical linking, so to say ?

Can't Enable Net.tcp Port Sharing

Jul 13, 2011

I'm doing my dev work on a Window 7 x64 machine, deploying to a Windows 2008 x32 server. At the moment I'm adding WCF services to some internal apps so that we can build smaller clients using net.tcp bindings that report to the user what the server is doing without running multiple instances of the server. To cut back on how much administration the apps will require, I tried enabling port sharing on my first server app. I'm using the app to self-host the WCF service so they can be easily moved from one server to another if necessary. Here's the code starting the server:

Dim _service_host As ServiceHost
Dim active_server_address As Uri = New UriBuilder("net.tcp", "localhost", CInt(My.Settings.ServerPort)).Uri

[Code].....

I get the following error when I put a breakpoint at the last line: Unable to automatically step into the server. Connecting to the server machine 'nettcpportsharing' failed. The requested name is valid, but no data of the requested type was found. The Try...Catch block housing that code says the exception type is AddressAlreadyInUseException...but when I run netstat I don't see anything else listening on that address. There's no occurrence of 'nettcpportsharing' anywhere in my solution. I've checked to make sure that the Net.Tcp Port Sharing service is started.

Sharing Data Between Forms?

Nov 17, 2009

I am working with several RFID readers that perform different function in my vb.net program. Currently each reader port number is hard coded into the respective form. For example, reader 3 operates on COM1. However, this will be problematic when installing on different machines.

What I would like to do is have a "configuration" form where the user can select each reader and then select the COM port. Then all other code references these settings. What would be the best approach for this.

The only way I know to do it currently is to place this information in a small database and then have the forms reference that database, but it is a lot to do for such a seemingly trivial task.

Sharing Memory Between Applications?

May 11, 2009

I have to implement some way of communication between 2 applications:

Program 1 is receiving data at a relatively high rate (sometimes up to 100k in a second). This application receives the data, does only very few computations and saves the received data to disk for later in-depth-analysis or just recall.

Program 2 shall do some real-time analysis on the same data which may at some point become rather complicated.

It is necessary to split up the 2 tasks into separate programs because the data has to be saved under all circumstances and without losses. Program 2 is still in a development phase, it has to be improved, recompiled, debugged. This shall not disturb the data collection and archiving.

Since application 2 has to go through all the data that program 1 receives it would be slowing down everything very much if the programs had to communicate e.g. via TCP. Therefore I am looking for ways to have some shared memory or whatever else might make it possible for P2 to access the data collected by P1 without too much overhead.

Sharing Objects Across WCF Services

Aug 16, 2010

Problem with WCF and Multiple Namespaces. The major difference I am having is that I don't control both ends of the wire.My setup is similar to this:[code]The first thing you do is login via the login service and receive a security ticket. The ticket object is located in the My.Objects namespace. For each subsequent call in My.Service1 and My.Service2 you have to pass in the security ticket to authenticate the call. The issue I am having is that instead of the client (a .net one for now but Java and others in the future) seeing one My.Objects.Ticket the references are resolving as My.LoginService.Ticket, My.Service1.Ticket, and My.Service2.Ticket. When the client tries to pass the object retrieved during login to any other function it is receiving an object mismatch error. How can I make each service resolve objects to the My.Objects namespace?
