(Yes i searched the site but i saw no useful program registering guides that i uderstood and worked with the newest version of Visual Basic .NET)
Same Program Sharing Common Datafiles?
Dec 15, 2011I'm back to working on my program and need a little advice. I have this program on two computers and I want to set it up to access the same set of datafiles. I want the program to tell it's counterpart on the other computer that it has a certain file open so the other program will not allow that person to access the opened file. The data files are all text files. Without using SQL or outside apps, can this be done thru vb.net?

Jul 7, 2009I am working on a program to integrate several entities of people to get them to work together by sharing information.I am having.I am using a database (Access) in which I can upload photos but can not understand how to store PDF and word.Also looking into implementing email.User inputs information on the forms with the attached (in datastore) PDF and word files and with one button email multiple users in certain areas.I can figure out how to code the email to: portion.Looking to be able to open a chat type interface. I understand I use the winsock com but I do not have it. Does anyone know what the heck this Adobe Breeze thing is?

Aug 4, 2009I found some VB6 code over here to get and set icons on the desktop.After converting it to VB.NET and making some minor modifications it should simply save the icon's locations at startup into an array of POINT structures, set all icons to random locations when a button is pressed and put the icons back when the applications exits. When I start the app all icons dissapear and nothing happens when the button is pressed or when I exit (I can get the icons back by aligning them by grid).The VB6 to VB.NET converter gives me a warning when i try to marshal the POINT structure saying that i need special conversion for marshaling non bittable types.

Jun 6, 2012I wrote this VB program to be able to throw a device we developed into programming mode where we use an ATMEL Flip installer to upload new firmware. I can program one device after another running the application off of Visual Studio Express 2010 or Visual Studio 2010, but when I go to publish this file and run it on another machine, it becomes unstable and crashes after each upload. On those same computers if I run the raw unpackaged program under Visual Studio Express, the system does not crash, and I can program devices repeatedly.

I am trying to make the program close if the -1 string is sent with the program. See my installer allows for me to run certain programs before it actually installs, but it doesn't shut down copies of the program itself. So I have a next startup instance set to shut the program down if the -1 is received. But if the program is not running it starts up instead. This is not desired. form1.close doesn't work. e.cancel = true doesn't work, etc etc. What can I do to make the program not start during this instance.

Program Saving User Selected Image And Reloading It Upon Program Load
Jul 4, 2012I have my rpg, still, first time working on it n ages, and I want each user to be able to set their own personalized picture background for the game...
each character in the game has its own dedicated folder for each file that the character has relating to it...
what I want to know how to do, is to have my game copy the loaded/chosen background image to their respective characters data folder, and have the game reload/reset the games default background image, to the one piced by he player...I am having a hard time figuring out how to do this however...I've tried a lot of different things...and nothing is working yet...
