Split Desktop Screen Into 2 Sections In Program 2008?
May 28, 2010
I am a novice programmer and would like to create a program that will divide the user desktop screen into 2 sections such that one bigger section of around 90% screen size is left for user to work with other windows that when maximized should not ovelrap the other 10% section which will hold some other information that will always be static on the user's screen.I am using vb2008.

I started with Visual basic 2010 and wants to learn this program. I am reading some tutorials but there is one thing i can't find.
I want different sections in a program. I have added a menu with some options. Now when i click in the memo on the "personnel" option i want to show the personnel form. I did this with
Public Class Form1Private Sub NieuwToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles NieuwToolStripMenuItem.Click formPersoneel.Show()End Sub End Class
This will open the form only in a new window. How can i load this forms in the program itself?

I want to code in our VB.net to be a little easier to follow both to improve readability and also make it a lot easier to know the best place to put a new bit of code/feature.
Essentially, I'd like to have a 10,000 foot "outline" of the code" with hyperlinks from the outline to the code.
It needs to be portable, so BookMarks won't do the trick (I think). I'm thinking maybe TODO comments. I'd like to create our own Todo style comment like "Outline" or something but that keyword would need to be in the config file for VS as well (but then it's just one thing to keep sync'd).[code]...

I created an application in vb.net I have a user control having datagridview and some other controls. Grid rows is not fixed and so size is calculated dynamically so that grid do not have scroll bars . when I run my application on different desktops it works perfectly. But when I open the application on laptop for same resolution it shows the scroll bar. Do I need to write different code for laptop and desktop for user control size or any property which need to be set to check it. one more thing Grid is set dock and user control is also set as dock in a panel So I do not wrote about anchor property.

I'm making a program in C#, but I want to test out part of the program I'm going to integrate into it in VB, and what I want to do is divide a file into sections. The files range from 60mb to around 180mb, and I know that it is really hard to open files of that size, so for my app I want it to divide the file into smaller sections and put files in a folder temporarily so It could just read them from there. And I want to break it down to about, 5-10mb per file.

I am looking to create simple application that means that when the 'Print Screen' button is pressed, the screenshot is not just sent to the clipboard but saved to the desktop in either JPEG or PNG format. The application will run at startup so that the 'new' print screen functionality is there but the interface of the app is opened manually.(the app interface includes simple options such as choose where file is saved.)

Is there a preferred method of creating a file with multiple sections? For example a program for a small retail business that might include different categories of sales, etc.I've come up with a primitive way of separating sections of a text file, which I can read and write right now, but I'm not confident that it will always work. I have a feeling it could produce an error down the road.

I'm currently trying to add all the sections of a specified .ini into a combobox. Here is my current
sPath = Application.StartupPath & "Settings.ini"
For Each SectionName In INIRead(sPath)
ComboBox1.Items.Add(SectionName)
Next
But that returns this in my combo box:
Now that's my section in the .ini, but it's scrambled and placed into multiple lines. I just want it on a single line as said in the .ini.

I've added a setup and deployment package to my project. When I go to install it the first screen says "Welcome to the setup setup wizard." Obviously, that doesn't look right. I want to change this, but can't figure out where that setting is. How to rename that setting so that it says "Welcome to the Wonderful Program setup wizard" instead?

I wanted to make a screen recorder (not screen capture) program, but I am not entirely sure how to get it started. I have seen many videos and things on how to make one, but all of these just take multiple pictures and then don't compile them into a movie file, and I don't want to take many pictures (unless that is the only way possible.) I am using Visual Basic 2010 Express and I have looked at the Windows Media Encoder, but I can't seem to figure out how to use/implement it (yes, I have downloaded and installed it.) Maybe I can use some kind of ActiveX control?

I'm working on one of my applications and I'm trying to find a way to use the "Go To Desktop" function that goes directly to the desktop without minimizing any window (This can be achieved by clicking on the Win + D buttons or on the desktop icon in the quick launch toolbar), but how can I activate it using vb? I thought about sending keys but I guess there is more offical ways to do it.

I have a button btnRegEx that when pressed shows a ContextMenuStrip, similar to the '>' button in the Find/Replace dialog in Visual Studio when you are using Regular Expressions. I have a ContextMenuStrip cms which I show using its Show(x,y) method.
At first I was simply setting x and y (the location of the ContextMenuStrip) to some point next to the button, but I noticed that when the button is close to the edge of the screen it goes off screen. I wanted to prevent that so I built some logic into the x-y calculation. When the ContextMenuStrip width is larger than the 'remaining space left' I simply show it more to the left. Same for its Height of course. I am using the Screen.GetWorkingArea(point) method to determine the 'remaining space left'. As I understand it, it returns the working area closest to the point you specify (to which I pass the button's location).
As long as I stay on my first monitor, it is all working perfectly fine. The problem occurs when I move the form to my second monitor. The contextmenustrip is still showing on the first monitor for some reason...
Here is the code I am using:
vb.net Private Sub btnRegEx_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnRegEx.Click
Dim p As Point = PointToScreen(New Point(btnRegEx.Left, btnRegEx.Top))
Dim x, y As Integer
[CODE]...
I have noticed that when I click the button when the form is on the second monitor, the buttons location (p) is calculated with the first monitor's top-left corner as (0,0), even though it is on the second monitor. This way, the GetWorkingArea function returns something like 1280, while the buttons x-location is something like 1700... So, how do I get the buttons coordinate relative to the actual screen it is on, rather than the entire dual monitor screens as a whole?
