Step Through An Entire XML File To Harvest All Info?

Feb 23, 2010

I have an XML file that contains several sections depending on how many search results came up. Here's my question.

1. What datatype should I use to store the harvested data from each result section? Should I use an ArrayList for each section or should I do it with one large array?

1. How do I step through each section of each result without loosing my position in the data?

Active Directory Info Into DataGridView

Oct 20, 2011

I am trying to get information from AD and populate it into a DataGridView. The code is as follows:
dirEntry.Path = "LDAP://PATH"
Dim dirSearcher As DirectorySearcher = New DirectorySearcher(dirEntry)
dirSearcher.PropertiesToLoad.Add("cn")
dirSearcher.PropertiesToLoad.Add("DN")
dirSearcher.PropertiesToLoad.Add("description")
dirSearcher.PropertiesToLoad.Add("info")
[Code] .....

The DataGridView has columns defined for all the items like "cn", "DN", "description", "info" etc. From the above code, I can only see the "cn" getting listed. I did try to add using the following lines in the "For" loop but cannot access anything.

DataGridView1.Rows.Add(dirSearchResults.GetDirectoryEntry.Properties("DN")(1)) 'Add DN into the second column
DataGridView1.Rows.Add(dirSearchResults.GetDirectoryEntry.Properties("description")(2)) 'Add description into the third column

How do I access the other fields from the AD record and how do I populate that information into the DataGridView?

WinAPI Click OK Remote Desktop Works Only When Window Is Active

Jun 8, 2012

I have a timer in winforms that looks for a specific OK dialog on my server (it clicks OK on a third party application that runs out of memory, then restarts it -- there is no other work around). So, when I remote desktop the server and the remote desktop window is active (the actual remote desktop window is active, not the actual window that has the OK that has to be clicked. I can have a window that has nothing to do with the OK, and it works), the program works as it should. It finds the window of the OK, then clicks the OK button fine. When I am not in remote destop, or when the remote desktop window is not active (or selecte) it finds the window and finds the OK button, but cannot click the OK button.

Capture Active Window Screen Shot?

Mar 20, 2010

I did a search on capturing screen shots in vb.net amd I was wondering if there is a straight forward way to capture the active window? Or do I need to first get the handle of the active window, get the position and size and then capture it? I do not want to use any type of sendkeys method or use the clipboard. I want to save it to jpg format.

Copy Text To An External Program, Click Somewhere On The Screen, Then Save A Screenshot?

Oct 16, 2011

I picked vb.net for this question since it's the only prgramming language I am fairly familair with, but if C++ or something else is more suited for this, I am willing to learn something new. What I am trying to do is:Retrieve text from database (this already works in vb.net) and copy it to clipboard Switch primary screen to the external application I want to work with (example: word or open office) Emulate key-press "Enter" Paste text and hit enter again Emulate key-press CTRL and then emulate a click on a pre-defined spot on the screen (like 500pixels from left, 740pixels from top). Save screenshot, using a second value from the database as the filename (the naming part should be easy) Emulate another click on another pre-defined spot Repeat for next text in database.I wouldn't know where to start, though. I guess the most important part of what I'm trying to achieve is; switching focus to an external application and emulate keypresses and mouse clicks on it.

Move From Custom Login Screen To Active Directory LDAP Authentication?

Mar 11, 2009

I have a WinForms app with SQL05 backend. It has a standard Login window where users are required to supply a username/password. This is validated using my own code and sprocs. Now one of my big clients has scared the bejezus out of me by saying, "Hey Chris, I want you to change your app in line with all our other IT systems so that users can use their common username and passwords with authentication against LDAP". Having had a moment to reflect, I have some questions (some very noob in nature!)

1. Is this requirement a big deal? :) Or straightforward to implement?

2. Does this mean that when user's double-click my app icon on the desktop, the authentication automagically happens without the need for a Login screen?

3. How on earth can I test this. My dev environment does not use AD, but I do have SBS2003

4. Can anyone point me to good resources about this on the web?

Also is there any means for a running application to know if it was started by command line, by a double_click on the exe, by a double_click on a shortcut that points to it, or by another process' call?

.net - WPF BackgroundWorker - UI Locks Up Trying To Instantiate Object From External Class?

Apr 13, 2011

I am trying to run a backgroundworker to load data from my DAL (which is available in another class). I want to keep the UI available and not have the "locked up" feel while the object is loading. When I create a simple backgroundworker and Sleep the UI stays responsive and my controls can be updated after the sleep. As soon as I replace the sleep with a call to instantiate the object from my DAL, the UI locks up. Is there someway I can instantiate this object using the background worked and keep the UI responsive?

When the situation object is instantiated it could take several seconds for it to load completely, during this time is when the UI is locked up... It does eventually load just fine.

Private WithEvents backWork As New BackgroundWorker()
Dim sit As Situation
Private Sub btnLoad_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.RoutedEventArgs) Handles btnLoad.Click
