Key Events Association With Active Program On Screen

I'm trying to do program that do something with F1 and F2 keys. So all working while my program is active. If my program is on screen. If I'm using other programs and my program isn't active on screen then these buttons won't do anything.
My code so far:

I am trying to create a file association in my program, which requires me to create some keys in the registry. However, when I try to create the keys, I get a System.UnauthorizedAccessException.
I have tried searching for a solution, and the only thing I can find is various examples of passing a boolean value to request write access for the "OpenSubKey" method. My problem currently is not opening the key, it's creating it. I have tried several of the different overloads to no avail.
I am guessing that I will need to temporarily elevate the access of my app to create the registry key. What I don't want to do is permanently raise the access of my app just to accomodate this one, small function, which should only really be needed by the user one time in order to create the file association.

I have a checkbox on my form. When the user clicks it, it sets the file association if the checkbox is checked, or else it deletes the association if the checkbox is unchecked.

I did a search on capturing screen shots in vb.net amd I was wondering if there is a straight forward way to capture the active window? Or do I need to first get the handle of the active window, get the position and size and then capture it? I do not want to use any type of sendkeys method or use the clipboard. I want to save it to jpg format.

Normally the event: PanelTransparentMarquee_MouseUp is only raised when the mouse is within the PanelTransparentMarquee panel. I'd like it raised where ever the mouse is on the screen.So in the load event for the usercontraol containing
PanelTransparentMarquee panel I inserted
PanelTransparentMarquee.Capture =
True
But I still only get the PanelTransparentMarquee_MouseUp event when the mouse is within the PanelTransparentMarquee panel.

I have a project with several forms. I need some of them to be in a modal window. How do you set this to be true? Also, when some of the forms are shown I need one of the buttons on the previous screen to be active.
I have tried:

I have a WinForms app with SQL05 backend. It has a standard Login window where users are required to supply a username/password. This is validated using my own code and sprocs. Now one of my big clients has scared the bejezus out of me by saying, "Hey Chris, I want you to change your app in line with all our other IT systems so that users can use their common username and passwords with authentication against LDAP". :confused: Having had a moment to reflect, I have some questions (some very noob in nature!)
1. Is this requirement a big deal? :) Or straightforward to implement?
2. Does this mean that when user's double-click my app icon on the desktop, the authentication automagically happens without the need for a Login screen?
3. How on earth can I test this. My dev environment does not use AD, but I do have SBS2003
4. Can anyone point me to good resources about this on the web?

I'm having a slight problem getting my program to load a save file when double clicking the save file.I'm using the Command$() to get the command line argument. I can open a save file by dragging it onto the exe. But not by double clicking the save file (after it's associated with the exe).I though dragging and dropping a file on a program and double clicking the file would open it in the same way, but I guess not.So in short how does file association work and how do I get the file path set to a var when the program loads.

I wanted to make a screen recorder (not screen capture) program, but I am not entirely sure how to get it started. I have seen many videos and things on how to make one, but all of these just take multiple pictures and then don't compile them into a movie file, and I don't want to take many pictures (unless that is the only way possible.) I am using Visual Basic 2010 Express and I have looked at the Windows Media Encoder, but I can't seem to figure out how to use/implement it (yes, I have downloaded and installed it.) Maybe I can use some kind of ActiveX control?

I am writing a simple program that serves a similar purpose as the character map, but just for the Spanish letters with accents (������ & ������). Character map doesn't work for me because I have to highlight the letter I want to insert and then copy it and then paste it into whatever window I'm working with.What I want to make is a program that has buttons for each of those letters, and when I push the button for a particular letter, it inserts the character into whatever window was active before I pressed the button. I also want whatever window that was active before I pressed the button (the window I inserted the character into) to become active again so I can resume typing right after I press the button.I have programmed in VBA before, but this will be my first VB project. I have tried searching how to do it, to no avail. Where do I begin?

I'm writing a small app that finds the directory of an active program and displays it in a message box. e.g. Microsoft Word is open and running... click a button and the app finds the Microsoft Word's directory. It has to be able to differentiate between the active program and inactive copy of the program.

I need to make a program for school that closes the active window. My application does now SendKeys.Send("%{F4}"). It works but, it also does it when there are no active windows. I want it to close only the active windows.

BTW this issue occurs in any MS office program when the VB.Net (or even VBA) is processing information.Example: In Excel, a worksheet is displayed on the screen. I start either, a VB.Net or VBA procedure and within 30 seconds the Excel worksheet (previously displayed) blanks out. In both VB.Net and VBA,ScreenUpdating = False. My expectation is that the previously displayed screen would stay static as if I left my desk to get a cup of coffee; came back and the same ole Excel worksheet was still there?Of course, setting VBA Screen Updating = False accomplishes two goals: 1) speeds up processing and 2) saves the user from seeing unnecessary "garbage-processing" steps.Why does VBA or VB.Net ScreenUpdating = False not freeze the screen at the time of its invoking?

I was wondering if there is any way to combine events in VB.net. I am using a windows form and have three events for each button that does a different action. I would like to put all three events in one method but am having trouble doing this. Below is an example of one of the buttons. I've recently been learning vb.net, coming from a background in java and c. I'm pretty comfortable adding buttons and things like that to my form, and then using those click events to call functions in other classes.
However, the way I have been testing my code is to add a button to my form and then have the click event initiate the first function call (basically I have this button acting like a java main() method.
I have recently been wondering if there is a more efficient way of testing out my code that is similar to how it is done in java or c. By this I mean, is there a way to skip all of the form stuff and just have a sub procedure or function that is similar to a main method in java?
I've seen several answers that have mentioned how to add get a main sub to work in vb.net, but they required changing some of the properties of the project. I'm looking for something I can just code and hit run without having to disable the application framework.
Since I'm still relatively new to vb.net, I am also wondering if this is they wrong way to go about it? If I was being asked to create some code in an interview or something, would I need to worry about launching everything, or would they just want to see me implement the class as a standalone file?

I have a custom datagridviewcolumn in which i've added an event.The problem is, I can't work out how to see who has subscribed to the current column object's event and add those subscriptions to the cloned column object.
I get around this problem by asking the calling program to pass the address of the handler to a delegate in the custom column, instead of adding a handler to the event.

The program I am working on uses arrays and a text file. In one section of the program it's suppose to display the most active year for storms between the years 1990-2008. The year that has the most active storms is 2005, but I don't know how to write it in the code so that it displays. Attached is the text file.
So far I have a For Next loop that counts the arrays.

after downloading an emulator for the gameboy advance, all my icons hav turned to the adobe logo. When I double click on them, all that happens is the abobe reader comes up and says it can't open it. The only way I have found to open them is right clicking on them and hitting properties and clicking on shortcut ---> open file location and opening it from there.However I would like to open it regularly and I am not very computer savvy but I believe it has to due with file association.

I was given an assignment to "write a program to print only even numbers between 6 and 16 using events", but I don't even know where to begin. The main thing I am having difficulty with understanding in this assignment is how I am supposed to specify that it only print even numbers in the given range of numbers.
Am I going to have to do a Mod2 code for each individual number and have it exclude any with the result of 1? Or is there another piece of code specifically designed for such an occassion? Perhaps there is some type of equation I can have the program read in terms of a variable, which holds the values of 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16? I am just genuinely confused on how this is supposed to be programmed.
