I am trying to make a program that goes to an excel file, copies the given range and pastes (Values!!) to another excel file. I am doing it in a loop because information from 12 different files gotta be in this one workbook. this is what i got so far
For intCounter As Integer = 0 To 11
With appXL
.Visible = False
[Code]....
It does the job, but every time I close the Roll Up file it gives me an error "A formula in this worksheet contains one or more invalid references." I guess it is because it copies the formulas as well...

I have an excel file, having lot or micros, connecting to database, doing some complex calculation..inshot that excel file is itself an application.
Now I want to open that excel in VB.net form, on button click. I prefer to open that excel in vb.net form itself having all the excel tool bar etc, If that is not possible then opening in separate window using excel will also solve my purpose (coz when we open in excel it self we will get all the toolbar option etc automatically)

My program needs to read data from a few Excel files that my company has made, basically a database I guess. Is there a way I can put the actual Excel files into my program so that the user doesn't have to supply them? Or perhaps there's an easy way to turn the Excel file into a database?

I found some VB6 code over here to get and set icons on the desktop. After converting it to VB.NET and making some minor modifications it should simply save the icon's locations at startup into an array of POINT structures, set all icons to random locations when a button is pressed and put the icons back when the applications exits. When I start the app all icons dissapear and nothing happens when the button is pressed or when I exit (I can get the icons back by aligning them by grid). The VB6 to VB.NET converter gives me a warning when i try to marshal the POINT structure saying that i need special conversion for marshaling non bittable types.
Here's the code:
Imports Microsoft.VisualBasicImports Microsoft.VisualBasic.Compatibility.VB6Imports SystemImports System.Runtime.InteropServicesImports System.Windows.Forms
Imports Project1.Declarations
Friend Partial Class Form1
Inherits System.Windows.Forms.Form
[Code] .....

I am writing a program that loops through all of the sheets in an Excel workbook and saves each sheet as its own workbook. It turned out to be a bit trickier than I expected, since the Sheet.Copy method creates a strange object (see here for the MSDN discussion that I believe is relevant: [URL]. Anyway, I found a Stack Overflow post [URL] that got me to where I am, which is essentially complete, outside of one hanging EXCEL.EXE process that is left after the program completes, which I believe is a result of the sheet.copy method creating a new workbook (potentially a new application as well?). The other thing I run into, which I believe is related to this, is that even though I have my application set to visibility off, when I run the program, excel still opens up and is visible going through the steps.
Here is my code:
Code:
Imports System.Data
Imports System.IO
Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop
[CODE]...
Now I think the problem comes from the end of the loop, where I try to close the export file and the new worksheet it creates:
Code:
'close excel and release com objects
System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ReleaseComObject(exportsheet)
exportsheet = Nothing
xlApp1.Workbooks(fileNames(counter - 1)).Close(False)
I can't figure out what to do to release the `ComObject` for the new worksheet that is created. I have been trying all sorts of things, but it always throws a COM error when I do it and if I try to define it as nothing (like I do with exportsheet) is says that it is read only by default, so I can't do it. It seems like it should be something as simple as: System.Runtime.InteropServices.Marshal.ReleaseComObject(xlApp1.Workboo ks(fileNames(counter - 1))) But that is not the case. I have tried a few variants of this and I am thinking it has to do with the MSDN link above, but I can't quite sort out what to do. So the code works for my purposes, outside of leaving one EXCEL.EXE after it is done. As far as a test file, I am just using an Excel file with 3 sheets and I put some information on each and change the sheet name, so it is easy to see if it is working or not.

I am using asp.net oledb to export information to excel file. I encounter problems when the information to export becomes too big, in this case the code I have given below, the excel file generated becomes an empty spreadsheet. If I changed the loop to 1123 for insertion of the rows. The generated excel file is fine, 1125 rows, and 4 columns shown.A test program in windows form is also working fine regardless of how many rows.[code]I couldn't find a solution to my problem as well. What I did eventually was to run the process using another separate windows service. The code works perfectly fine running from a windows form or service program, but not asp.net, not sure why.

I have this issue that occurs with me and driving me crazy i have a report that contains thousands of records and i need to export it to excel , but the excel normal extension .xls
is showing missing records at the end of the file , so i save my file as an .xlsx extension it saves correctly but when i open the file it generates an error
"Excel cannot open the file '<var>filename</var>.xlsx' because the file format for the file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file."but when i test the file i drag it and open it in an empty notepad all the records shows up correctly

Anyway, I found another Stack Overflow post that got me to where I am, which is essentially complete, outside of one hanging EXCEL.EXE process that is left after the program completes (check the update for one more issue that came up, but I think they are related).
Here is my code:
Imports System.Data
Imports System.IO
Imports Microsoft.Office.Interop
Imports Office = Microsoft.Office.Core
[Code]......
Final Update: On the off chance that some poor soul ran into the same issue I was running into, the first update should solve it, but it is also important to note that the excel.exe will hang until you close the application. I am report automation code as a windows form application (so coworkers can give the file location and such) and there is going to be an excel.exe process running until you close the pop up window from the program. Maybe garbage collect does not run until you close the application window or it just hangs on to an instance of excel.exe for some other reason.

Some of u already know I'm making a 'virtual desktop'- thing.Only one problem. When switching to a new desktop it starts a new instance of my app in that desktop (works) and on the form load event it says process.start("explorer.exe") <- here is the problem. It only shows a window not the actually bar. Also this may be important it shows the window, but when I navigate to explorer.exe 'C:Windowsexplorer.exe' and open it there. The explorer bar does show up.
