I've used this example to create a paint application in vb express 2008, however the example can only open and save .pic files! How can I make it so that my application can open and save a commonly used image type, such as bmp, jpeg or png? I would imagine it can't be that hard, just saving what has been drawn in the picturebox into an image file, or loading an image into the picturebox.
I have tried to make a load event by using some simple code I've made:
If OpenFileDialog1.ShowDialog() = DialogResult.OK Then
PictureBox1.Image = Image.FromFile(OpenFileDialog1.FileName)
If Not (PictureBox1.Image Is Nothing) Then
m_Picture = Nothing
PictureBox1.Invalidate()
[Code] .....
When I simply delete this section of code, pictures open fine however of course then I cannot draw, which defeats the purpose of my application. So how can I open and save images with my paint app?
I am currently working on a small drawing application and I wanted to know if it was possible to insert a paint application inside a form,like vertically dividing the form into two. On one side you have some literature and on the other side you have the application.This paint application just mimics the same Microsoft paint whereby you have an open and save option
I found some code online for a vb paint application and I modified it for my use, which is a signature application. It uses a tablet connected to the pc to write the signature on the screen and then save it as a bitmap for later retrieval.The only issue i am having right now is that if you write on the tablet too fast, the signature gets broken up alot, any way to quicken the paint process in the code so that I can get a smoother signature?
Here is my code: Imports System Imports System.Collections Imports System.Data Imports System.IO Imports System.Xml.Serialization [Code] .....
How can microsoft paint(or any other painting software) be included in a VB.net project? I need to used its functionalities to maipulate jpg and movie file. Is there any ways this can be done on VB.net (or Visual Studio).
I am trying to paint the Computer Screen grey for the duration that the splash screen and the next popup screen (both of the dimensions lesser than the Computer Monitor's)run, the background is always grey. [code]...
i am working on chatting application in which i developed a white board having pencil and and eraser using JQuery. Now i want to show this board to the online users accessing this page. What would be the best approach to so?
Ok major problem with a paint program i am making. When i have a window overlap or anything and move to side of screen and minimize and maximize i lose whats in the picturebox...Here is an example of the code I use to draw a line after click a button:

Here is a picture of my program running: How do I stop everything being deleted when things pass it...? how can i add a save feature to this program?
how to save data (for example some text that user type [as password etc]) and save that password on same location where is application. After saving I want to have also Load option so we can load saved data.
I have one project and in this project I want to save picture to application path and save the path to database as string and retrieve the image from the application path.Can u give me some idea about it..i am using vb.net as frontend and ms access database
I am trying to build a game (out of fun) similar to those text based games like Wars, iMobster (which can be found on Facebook/iPod). And I came to the point where I need to create a Save/Load system. My game currently has 50-ish variables, and it would be nice if there would be a way to save them in the application themselves, so when it is opened the next time they are all there. I know I can write the variables to a .txt file, and then pull them from there, but those are easy to modify, plus that means one file for each variable (right? Unless there is a way to save all my variables into 1 .txt file?).
I have an application where I need a textbox's text to be saved to the actual application in a similar manner to an embedded resource. I also want this text to be editable by each user of the application.For example, I make the textbox's text read: Apple, save it and give the executable to my friend.My friend loads the application on his PC, and it says "Apple" in the textbox.He changes the text to "Banana" and saves it, then gives the executable he just used back to me.When I load it up the textbox reads "Banana".
OK so after a week of aggravating, hair pulling, disaster of trying to figure out what should be simple tasks but beat me down! Ok so I wanted to create a application that would, somewhat manage the users own collection of video games (Lame i know ) you add your games to a listview item, with an image and some sub items, viewing details, using a textbox to search your games... etc i hope you get it
Ok so what i cannot figure out, or find by combing the internet! is how to save all new items the user adds... And including: the item, all the sub items and the picture thats associated with the item.! Instead of posting the code, i posted the application Source code itself here:Source Code , I also started a project here: Codeplex
Later i eventually was thinkin of ading a "wish list" feature where you could add the games you want to get later and also tag it with a release date so when the date comes up, it will let you know, maybe through some alarming way or textbox somehwere... IF you guys want to make it better or fix it! go ahead, i just want this app to save upon EXIT or directing me in the right direction would be VERY VERY much appreciated!
I have searched for an answer for a long time now, both generally ont he web and in several forums including this one. There are many people who asks this or similar qusetions, but the answers are often hard to understand, and quite often are answers to something other than what was asked from the beginning.I know that there are many skilled programmers out there, but most are not great teachers. So here is what I need: I have constructed a program in which the user can write values in textboxes, choose from lists (comboboxes) and make some choices by checking checkboxes. The data in the lists comes from a database, but I don't think that is really relevant here. What I want is, when all the choices are made and when the textboxes, comboboxes and so on have data (text or numbers) in them, I want the user to be able to save this to a file (XML perhaps?).
To speak plainly and visualize this to you, think of a roleplaying game (RPG), and that you fill out a character form with details about your character. Of course you want to save all this, and at some point retrieve it to make changes when you level up. I am not all that stupid when it comes to programming, but I have never tried to do something like this. My applications have had a database engin behind the GUI, and all the saving was done in tables at the far end of everything. Now I want to save data to a file instead. I have tried to find books (or a good tutorial here on the web), but most answers are for C (++. #, etc), or else they are hard to understand.
Is there anyone here who can help me or point me in the right direction? I'm not asking you to do my work for me, but som examples that are valid and that will help me understand the process whould be nice. So far I have recieved good help here on this forum from nice people.
well i am using visual basics express and i cant seem to be able to save the file as an application [exe file]. i have created a program for my friend and i want to start to us it does eny one have eny ideas???
I created a vb program so anyone in my company can open it and see who is using what phone number offsite, and since different people go to different places each day, i linked the name and place fields to their respective database.
I am starting to use cryptostream class. I may be wrong, if you encrypt something, close the app, and then try to decrypt it, it will not be able to because a different key will be generated. Because I do need this functionality, I am wondering if it's possible to save the key in application settings and whether this is the right way to go?
i have a problem to make a save and load button on my application.this is what i want:if i click on a exit button then need there show a window with "would you save youre settings" yes no cancel and i got more then 1 thing to save (it is a sidebar)can someone tell me pls how to do this ( don't use hard words to understand because i am pretty new )
I am trying to write a code to save and open data that is in my application. My application contains hundreds of text boxes, combo boxes and labels. I have created an array for each set of data, i.e.,
glist(0).store=combobox1.value glist(0).cat=combobox2.value glist(0).it=label3.text glist(0).quan=label4.text glist(0).total=label5.text up to glist(89).
Is there a way to write a code to loop through the array and save the values so that they can be opened at a later time in my application? The array will contain Doubles and Strings.
im trying to save a encrypted password to a application settings which is a byte array but didn;t find any easy way to do so. i did try to convert the byte array to string adn read the string back as a byte array but the problem was the bytearray lenght increases when i read it back.
(using VB.Net 2008) I am trying to save one of my custom types to the application settings. I've read a variety of opinions on the internet about whether this possible.
When creating an app setting, none of my types appear when browsing. However, previously I needed to save off one of my datasets, and it worked simply by hand-entering it as the setting type (ie, I just typed "MyProjectName.DatasetName"). However, when I try the same trick with another custom type that isn't a dataset, I get a "type was not found" error. So I'm a little confused, can the program "find" some custom types and not others?
How do I save my settings in the same folder of my application is in .INI file.[code]And how do I delete the app.config folder in the AppData Local dir?Because what I noticed is.. It creates new folders everytime I release a new version of my application.It doesn't consume much space though but still it creates new folder corresponding to the application version.
This is a new question based on the response from an older post. I needed to save a value when my app is run for the first time that would be applicable to all users who logon to the PC and use my application. The setting is only known at the time of the install so Application settings with application or user scope are unsuitable. I was advised to save the setting to an external file and save/read it as needed. The obvious choice was to save the file to the projects application path (keeping things tidy). Everything worked fine during testing but when the application is installed on a PC, the application path becomes C:program files application nameetc. When I try to execute the code that saves the file, I get a permissions denied error. I understand that it's part of the UAC control but when did it become acceptable to stop developers programmatically creating files in their own application folder?
I'm trying to figure out how to do this as I'm not sure what's the proper way of doing this.
I've got several strings that I want to store/save permanently, even after the application is closed. How should I proceed? Do I read or write from a textfile?
A year ago I saw a beautiful simple code that gets a data table and saves it in an excel file. The trick was to use the web library (something with http) and I'm almost sure it was a stream. I find a lot of code with response but I can't make it work in a win-form environment. There is also a cell by cell code - not interested -too slow. I want to paste it as a range or something close.
