SaveFileDialog Becoming Un-responsive Or Showing No Items
Sep 28, 2010
1.The savefiledialog lets you type illegal characters such as "?" inside the save box, which messes it up when you do so, making it not able to save the file or the dialog becoming un-responsive or showing no items even when your filter is set correctly.
I cannot make it work. I'm a beginner, and not being sure what's really relevant I'll say I'm using VS2010 Express edition, on Windows7 Pro 64 bit. It's been bugging me for days, and I even thought it was because I was using Express edition, but it wasn't. I copied their Fibonacci example, and it worked as expected. Meaning: progress bar reported progress, GUI was responsive, so Cancel button could have done its part.
But I didn't want Fibonacci calculator, because recursive calls always make me think about stack overflow. I wanted something less fancy; I wanted simply to count to 100.000 and see the counter on the GUI changing all the time.So I followed the instructions on their Fibonacci example, but I made it only count "in its mind". It updated progress bar all the time, but text box shown only the last result after finished counting. Also GUI wasn't responsive, so I couldn't click cancel button.
When you start Fibonacci example, you could move the form around. But in my case, GUI was frozen, and form was moved only at the end of counting.
I want to show items in my gridview as a 5 across and a 5 down display - I already have the query pulling only 25 records per a page but cant seem to make the gridview do what I want
Example:- record 1 : record 2 : record 3 : record 4 : record 5 record 6 : record 7 : record 8 : record 9 : record 10 etc ...........................................
I am having a bit of trouble showing content in my comboBox as i type. The idea is to: As the user is typing into a combo box, say the user types the letter L. would like for all the words in the dictionary.txt beggining withto be shown in the combo box.
i have a problem.. i use this code to download:Dim dl As New System.Net.WebClient dl.DownloadFile({online_file}, {local_file})now, it does download the file. my work is done. the only downside is that, until the download is finished, the program crashes!if i download a 5kb .txt file, all is ok, you wouldnt even notice
if i try to download a 15MB .rar file though.. now the program crashes for a long time! when the file is fully downloaded it works just fine again.how can i make it so that downloading doesnt make the application non-responsive?(and if possible, how can i make it see how many kb is downloaded? like at this second its 15kb of 2048kb)
In my (VB.Net+VS2008)application, I want to make my windows form (splash) more responsive as there is some complex functionality is performing while loading splash form. Currently when any other application come in front of splash screen and then minimize then splash screen looses its proper visibility and showing some hang kind of state also.I used "Application.DoEvents()", but it doesn't work. I can't use "background worker" because it doesn't support UI related changes. i.e. Initializing some UI components on shown event of splash screen.

I loaded up a checkedListBox with items form a .txt file. The .txt file has itemName, ItemPrice. Every item that gets checked shows up in a listBox on another form. The problem that I am having though is that I need to accumulate the itemPrices of the selected items to show up in a textBox, but the only price that shows up is the price of the item in the checkedListBox that has the focus. I'll add the code to this:
Public Class Form3 'define the Product structure Structure Product Public itemName As String Public itemPrice As Decimal [Code] .....
I have a number of textboxes and labels in a panel which has to scroll in order to view them all. The user is then able to scroll down and click on one of the labels which has a textbox that appears so the user can change the corresponding value in the label. For some reason, if the user has to scroll down at all to any of the labels that are initially out of view, when they click on the label the textbox appears far below as if it was at its initial position and not directly where the label currently is.
I can't claim credit for this code but I think it's cool. It will show the entire contents of an item in a tooltip even when the columns are truncating it. Drop a tooltip and listview container on your form with the default name.
Public Class Form1 Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load ListView1.Clear() ListView1.View = View.Details [Code] .....

I have combed these forums and the 'net and can't find an answer to my specific problem. My menu strip disappeared (after deleting a small secondary form within my project). I therefore created a new strip and while recreating the menu items realized that the original menu items are still present, showing in my properties list. I have checked my design file as well and the original menu strip is definitely gone but the original menu items are there. I don't have many items so I would have no problem just deleting the original ones but I can't see them to delete them! I have checked and they are all set to visible. I have also moved everything on my form to see if it is behind anything else.
I have a problem with the combox its only displaying the first item in the list its being populated by a webserice call the drop down in question is comboboxmodel now the manufacture one is fine and sets as it should any reason as to why the comboboxmodel would not. [code]
I am having trouble getting a filename out of my SaveFileDialog. I am using Framework 4.0, it works fine in 3.5.
Private Sub cmdExportToPDF_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdExportToPDF.Click Dim SaveFileDialog1 As New SaveFileDialog()
This code works on my local machine (Windows 7 Ultimate). When I tried it on WindowsXP,it didn't even open the dialog, instead it gave me an Unhandeled Exception error.
I can't remember the specific details of the error, but I do recall my profesor telling me there could be something wrong with permissions(me being the ONLY user on my machine, and his machine having multiple user accounts).
But what does all that have to do with opening the SaveFileDialog?
Could it be that SaveFileDialog1.AutoUpgradeEnabled = True is causing the problem?
My users need to browse to select a file and then save it to a different location. Here's my code I've got so far - it incorporates the OpenFileDialog to open the file and the SaveFileDialog to save the file. When the code goes into the OpenFileDialog portion, it works great....the initial directory is set to "C:" This is where the user will select the file they want to save to another location.
I have an .net 1.1 framework application I would like to update to 3.0 framework (or at least 2.0), but I've just run into a real problem. The savefile dialog code which works fine in 1.1 does not work in 2.0 and up. Line for line the code is the same (thereis no difference in line numbers at all). I'm baffled. With the exception of throwing an error for the Quicktime 7 control, VS2008 indicated no errors in converting 1.1I open my 1.1 (VS 2003) version and step through line-by-line. Works as advertised.I open my 2.0 (VS 2008) version and step through line-by-line. Appears to be working, dialog opens fine, I enter a filename, code continues; but when complete, there is no file in the folder.I'm wondering if the problem lies in the block of code for the small XML file I'm writing.

i want to have a SaveFileDialog for CSV-Export. Here is my code:
Private Sub btnExportCSV_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnExportCSV.Click Dim da As New SqlDataAdapter("select * from tbl_gesamtminuten", conn) Dim ds As New DataSet() da.Fill(ds, "tbl_gesamtminuten")
It allows me to browse and/or create a file, but when I click the save button it transfers the new files directory to anothe savefiledialog box. I cant get it to close the search and place the path in the InputBox.
I have a picturebox with an image. Anyone have a code snippet on how I could save the file using a savefiledialog box? bonus: is there a way to save the file as a png?
I am calling the SavefileDialog with in my code. I can't figure out how to bring it to the front. Every thing works acoordinly I just have to minimize every thing to find it.
simple question but I don't know much about the savefiledialog component. I know I can bring up the dialog with savefiledialog.showdialog but what I want to do is allow the user to browse to a location to save the file, press okay then that destination be placed in a textbox on the form?
I am using SaveFileDialog with SaveFileDialog1.CreatePrompt = True. When I go to save a File and write in a name that is not created yet, a pop up box comes up and says do you want to create this file. I click yes, But it dosent create a file? Here is my section of code.
Private Sub SaveToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles SaveToolStripMenuItem.Click SaveFileDialog1.Title = "Specify Destination Filename"
I have not tested this, but I am fairly certain it would not work. When my program installs, I want to ensure that the default SaveFile directory is into a directory under the program's directory. For example, if the program installs to C:Program FilesConcept VisionsWorldFileMaker, I want the SaveFile dialog to default to C:Program FilesConcept VisionsWorldFileMakerWorldFiles.I can see in the File System of the setup project, under the property 'DefaultLocation', it's value is:
[ProgramFilesFolder][Manufacturer][ProductName]With Manufacturer = Concept Visions and ProductName = WorldFileMaker, am I correct in assuming this would be C:Program FilesConcept VisionsWorldFileMaker on a default Windows machine?
Below is the code I use to open the SaveFileDialog to save the file. The line in bold is the line I have my question about. How do I get the saveFileDialog1.InitialDirectory = "C:Program FilesConcept VisionsWorldFileMakerWorldFiles" without actually hard-coding it as "C:Program FilesConcept VisionsWorldFileMakerWorldFiles"? I want to use a substitution variable similar to "[ProgramFilesFolder][Manufacturer][ProductName]".
Eventually, I want to learn how to allow the user to install in a folder of choice. If I am correct, I would need such a substitution variable.
I am attempting to save a graph that I have displayed on the screen as an image file (e.g., a jpeg file) but the image I want to save has additional information such as axis labels that are not displayed on the screen. In addition, I also want to suppress some information that appears on the screen.
I create a separate bitmap canvas called mycanvas and I recreate my display on this canvas with the additional information. When I save it with an image format such as iftype=system.drawing.imaging.imageformat.tif with the command mycanvas.save(filename, iftype), I get the image file that I created on mycanvas. But If I use the SaveFileDialog followed by mycanvas.save(filename, iftype) I merely save the image displayed on the screen. It is as if my graphics object has reverted back to the graphics object I was using for the screen display.
