I am writing a small program that will allow users to save scores for sports. I usally write websites so its been a while Ive dealt with a windows application. I am using VS 2010 to write the app. What would be the best way to save the data? A local database, but will this be easy to install on other computers? XML?

do not know if what has previously been faced with this problem but I can not open my vb.net project and Windows Forms.Here's what it's written when I try to open the Visual Basic 2008 application.
Unable to read the project file links like mediafire.vbproj and after that throws the table next project package load failure: (So I tried to reinstall anything anyway.And even tried to create a Setup Wizard program is not open.And one more thing I do not like what I do not know how to create a program installer wizard so that the program is open without any Visual Basic program in 2008 and hidden codes.Is it possible to do this? I am at the moment a novice in using the VS, just started with step by step Visual Basic.I have from earlier a broad backgound in systemdevelopment, and I need some planning tools before i do the "math", taht is the code-creation with the VS tool.What is common to use to sketch and plan the work ahead in your Vs-environment. I need this because of the size of the tasks ahead, thse are on a meduimsize functional range of the applications I suppose I will delop in the future. Is it something of the UML-way, or any case like tools, or how do you take your ideas to the paper and make the design fundament before yoiu do your coding efforts?

I have one about one apllication send SMS trough GSM modems. The application works fine, and without problems. The questions now, is: - I use Huawey E220, to send the SMS, with AT commands. Now, I wanna migrate for better hardware, and try use another GSM Modem. In this case, I was try with Siemens M20 Terminal. But, with this kind of equipment the applicatiosn doesn't work. What I am trying tot achieve is the following:User inputs data in one form that saves to the dataset table no problems. On an edit screen I want the current data saved to appear in this page within all the relevant fields but when saving I want this data to add to the dataset table as an additional line of data so the transaction records are kept.I want to add a new datarow regardless of it saving one change or all 7 changes that are possble.
e.g. Line 1 - user inputs 7 cells of data Line 2 - user amends 2 cells of data Line 3 - user amends 1 cell of data an so on. Unfortunately the terminology for certain items above may not be correct as I am still new to this programming and still on a massive learning curve.At the moment I do not have the code for what I am trying to achieve as I really dont know where to start with it.I am currently able to save the data and have it appear in the "edit" panel however only the cells changed are saved an it overwirtes the initial input.

I am writing my first windows ce app. I am using an xml file (app.Config) to store state data... basically user preferences on the last location (connection string) that the person was using before closing the app. I am having trouble understanding what is happening on deploy. It looks like it is copying my xml file to the debug folder on deploy. My problem is, when I save the xml file it is not saving in my project. Is there another folder in which the emulator resides that contains all of the state data and possibly the file that I am writing out? I am saving the doc to the same filepath as I am reading in but it does not actually save or throw error or anything.
View 2 RepliesTesting out a VB.net prog in Windows 7 that works ok in Vista and earlier. The users can set various options and save them for next time. In pre Vista this goes in the program directory in program files, in Vista it is transparently put into the user's virtual store.However, in Windows 7 trying to save the file gives an access denied error although the virtual store exists as for Vista and other apps appear to be using it ok.

I'm working on a simple data logging program, and I have little to no database experience. I wrote a little VB forms app to log the data to ms access and then graph the data, but I'm having trouble with adding records to the database. First, I created a simple one table database in access. Then, I added the database to the project as a data source, and gave it a data set using the wizard. Right now my code looks like this:

There are no problems during build or run time, but I do not see changes to database after the program runs.
I am trying to use vb to open windows 7 visual effects in control panel and only select certain options then saving it. Either buy making vb do all the work or making vb find the registry keys.

But my concerns is the speed of saving and the large amount of data. For every 0.5s, one set of data will be generated and the process will keep running for about 8 hours, so at the end of 8 hours, roughly there will be 60,000 set of data generated.May i know what is the best option/method of saving the data into the sql server in not hanging up my software and also keeping the pace with the speed of 0.5s data being generated?
- Speed of 0.5s. I have to maintained for every 0.5s, one data must be generated. Cannot delay too much.
- I can afford delay in the sql database, meant the data might not be necessary close to real time.
I have a small application that consist of five tables. The main table is called inventory. I have four tables linked to the Inventory table

I can go in and enter data, create a new record and add more data and then click Save - nothing happens. I can cycle through the records and they will show. However when I exit and reenter the program (stop/start debugging) done of my new data is displayed.
I am thinking the problem has to be with the four tables connected to the main table via the ID's. Although a record is not being added to these subtables. So, I am not sure what's going on.

I have a very simple DataSet linked to a ListBox. I need the User to be able to add Data and have used the following code (in a ToolStrip command button):

This seems to work ok - the new Data immediately appears in the ListBox. However, as soon as I close the form all of the Data in the DataSet is lost.
I have created a form, that calculates Hotels billing, with one box I can input Number of nights a customer stayed which is £32.50 a night per room and the other box £4.50 for breakfast, there is a deposit of £25.00 which gets deducted upon departure. I have created this form with success along with a clear button But here is the tricky part- I want to create a total button which will display a summary information about the bills paid on that day regardless of how long they have stayed and how many breakfasts consumed. this should include, the total number of bills paid, the total number of nights paid for, the number of breakfasts paid for, the total amount of all the bills added together including the deposit.

What I have is a program that is going to monitor and store different stats about different email servers. The basic layout of the main form is a datagridview. Now this program does not need to store the information into a database as it is only going to run on one machine which is why I did not bind the datagridview to a dataset. Maybe using a datagridview is not the way I need to go but researching around the only other option would be to save the data to XML. However since the table does contain hidden fields with authentication credentials, I am a little bit hesitant about doing so.
