Copy User-Defined Class Object?

Mar 12, 2010

I would like to make a "deep copy" of a class object that I have defined. See Visual Basic 2005 Code below

Dim MyStuff1 as new MyClass
Dim MyStuff2 as new MyClass
mystuff1.getbyID(anID)
mystuff2 = mystuff1

Unfortunately the statement "mystuff2 = mystuff1" makes a "shallow copy" of mystuff1. Therefore, if mystuff1 is redefined then so is mystuff2. What do I have to do in MyClass to implement a deep copy method such that operations on mystuff1 and mystuff2 are independent?I would prefer something like

mystuff1.deepcopy(mystuff2)
or
mystuff2 = mystuff1.deepcopy()

Windows Service Not Able To Read Current User's Registry?

Sep 9, 2009

I developed a windows service project using vb.net and windows service is installed with logon account as admin's user name and password. Target of windows service is to read the pst file path location from windows registry for currently logged user by accessing the following registry key

"HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWindows Messaging SubsystemProfilesOutlook52a407cf2e436a4d8fe252d1d257465501f6700".

The problem is , windows service can able to read the admin pst file path location if admin is logged in windows. When other user logged in windows, service is not able to read currently logged user's pst file path location from registry because of windows service is configured with admin user name and password. so it always reads admin's pst file location.

VS 2008 No User Settings When App Starts At Windows Start Using Run Key In Registry?

Aug 10, 2010

I know similar questions have been asked/answered, but after looking across the net for 2 days I still haven't really seen an answer to the following question.rst, background info: My application starts at windows start as a user checkbox option (by using the run key in the registry.) I don't know if it is usual or not, but when the app auto starts on windows start, no saved user settings show up on the form (but they do when starting the program manually after windows is already running). I've tried both HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. In case anyone needs or wants it, my code for accessing the registry is:

Dim Reg As Object
Reg = CreateObject("Wscript.shell")
Reg.RegWrite("HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMICROSOFTWINDOWSCURRENTVERSIONRUN" &

Process.start Access Denied - Create A User Account And Modify It's Registry Before The User Logs On The First Time

May 31, 2012

I thought I postet this yesterday but I can't find my thread so if this is a duplicate please point me at the original one. Background: I need to create a user account and Modify it's registry before the user logs on the first time. Creating the account is done by using the Winnt provider (works great). To create the profile I'm trying to use Process.start to launch a process as the newly created user. With the use of loaduserprofile property the users profile gets created and i can do my regwrites without problem.

File I/O And Registry :: Saving For With Dynamic Controls

Sep 13, 2009

I'm working on a kind of database program. What it does is, after an user fills in a couple of textboxes and hits an "Add" button, it creates a series of textboxes, and places these in the same form. After that, and here's where I have the problem, I want to be able to save the form, saving not only what each dynamically added textbox says, but also it's location in the form.

Here's part of my work up to now:
Code:
Public Class Form3
Dim k As Integer = 1
Dim i As Integer = 0
Dim j As Integer = 0
Dim x As Integer = 8
Dim y As Integer = 40
[Code] .....

NOTE: Age, name, last name, tel and type are all the fields that the user has to fill in, they are textboxes.

Saving/loading A Background Image From Registry?

Jun 15, 2010

I'm trying to build a music player app. I want to have it set up so the user can choose your own background from picture files on your computer. The code I'm using to save the registry file is:

Private Sub MusicPlayerForm_FormClosing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles Me.FormClosing
My.Computer.Registry.SetValue _ (m_strKeyName, "BackgroundImage", Me.BackgroundImage)
End Sub

The file is saved and I can see it when I use the regedit. The problem I'm having is loading the file. Currently I have:

Private Sub MusicPlayerForm_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Timer1.Start()
LoadDefault()

[code]....

The error message I get is 'System.IO.FileNotFound Exception'. For some reason I don't think the files' getting read.

VS 2008 Saving Colors / Fonts To The Registry

Mar 9, 2012

I think I'm starting to wear out my welcome by posting so much one after another..but, I'm having so much fun with this..Like a kid in a candy store. one more thing then I'll give you fellows a break. I was trying to get the colors and fonts to go into the registry and have the program pull those settings back into the program when its opened up but i can't seem to get it right for some reason. I only included the one line in the Form1_Load and left what i had in the in the other. Obviously this code is incomplete, and not functional As Is. So how do I save the Font Size, and then Save the listview backColor and Forecolor in the reg, and retrieve those settings when the programs starts?

Creating Object Defined In DLL With No Reference

I have the full path to a dll, but not a reference, where I need to instantiate an object that implements an interface that I've defined. I do have control over the other dll, so I am able to do things like stick a static function in the dll that returns the object I need. I'm just not sure how to call that function, or even if I'm approaching this right.

File I/O And Registry :: Saving Data From Class Properties?

May 28, 2009

I currently have a class

Code:
Public Class Customer
Public Property AccountNumber() As String
Public Property PMDue() As String

[code]....

Account Class is initialized as new customer. To save the data from each property in the Account Class, I'm currently looping thru the properties each time Account obtains new data. I tried to simplify the process by the following line...

Code:
CustomerStreamToWrite.WriteLine(Account)

This does not work as written. I figured it would be much faster. It did not write out the property data. It saved "WindowsApplication1.Customer" Not exactly what I wanted. Is there a method to get it to save the properties in a written out style by just using the class name?

Creating User-Defined Types?

Nov 19, 2011

Well I had a thread going that branched out to this topic, so rather completely veering off the main topic there, I felt creating a new thread was adequate.So as the title says, I'm trying to create a user-defined type. It's not a simple type at that but a user here had showed me a way to fix all my problems. That was to create a type BigDecimal. Which my initial thought was to utilize the BigInteger type. Being that the Integer Part, and Fractional parts would be split off into two variables, both BigIntegers. Which would be combined at the end as a "decimal". However I have many many questions see that this is my first attempt at truly creating a type of my own. So as of right now I'm basically swinging in the dark here.

DB/Reporting :: User Defined Searches?

Apr 23, 2009

Im using a simple access database with only 2 tables and I creadted a form with a datagrid to show all data inside the tables, and now i want to create search buttons for each field of the table . like, "seach by Name", Seach by date" etc... i tried to use the simple code

Code:

Private Sub Button3_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button3.Click
Dim cod As String
cod = InputBox("Type the Id to search: ", "Search By ID")
If cod <> " " Then

[code]....

My biggest problem now is that this code works very well to search by id (which is my table primary key), but now i want to search by other fields and this code only allows to search by primary key! Is there any way to use something similar to this code to search by other fields?
