Planning To Do A Apllication Devlopment Task In VS?
Nov 12, 2010
I am at the moment a novice in using the VS, just started with step by step Visual Basic.I have from earlier a broad backgound in systemdevelopment, and I need some planning tools before i do the "math", taht is the code-creation with the VS tool. What is common to use to sketch and plan the work ahead in your Vs-environment. I need this because of the size of the tasks ahead, thse are on a meduimsize functional range of the applications I suppose I will delop in the future. Is it something of the UML-way, or any case like tools, or how do you take your ideas to the paper and make the design fundament before yoiu do your coding efforts?

do not know if what has previously been faced with this problem but I can not open my vb.net project and Windows Forms. Here's what it's written when I try to open the Visual Basic 2008 application.
Unable to read the project file links like mediafire.vbproj and after that throws the table next project package load failure: (So I tried to reinstall anything anyway. And even tried to create a Setup Wizard program is not open. And one more thing I do not like what I do not know how to create a program installer wizard so that the program is open without any Visual Basic program in 2008 and hidden codes. Is it possible to do this? If so how to do that ?

I suppose this is more of an opinion question, but, when you start a big project, what do you think about before you even start Visual Studio? Do you setup structure and files before actually coding them, or do you code them one-by-one?

I'm trying to create a planning program by using my own controls.I first make a control to create the entire field with a flow panel at the top for the header. Then below that flow panel I put a flowpanel for each row. Each flow panel in a row has four labels and one regular panel. The second control I make is one that creates a bar created from 2 pictureboxes and a panel. The panel is then variable based on the number of days it covers.
This control is then positioned in the regular panel of each row flow panel. (still with me??)I have not counted the amount of bar-controls that are put on the form, but there are a lot.and then I get the error: Error creating window handle. So I must be doing something wrong, but then how can one create a planning like panel with horizontal bars in different sizes depending of the amount of days.

The question: better a deep folder structure or less subfolder with thousands files?
The problem: I have a VB.NET program that generates around 2500 XML files per year (circa 100 KB per file).I have to store the files on a file server (Windows 7 or NAS).On the network there are around 30 PCs using that program.I am looking for the best way to plan the structure of the folders on the file server with the goal to have a good human-readable folders structure and at the same time a fast access to the file.In the past I made a similar program with the following structure:
fileserverPC1yearmonthsfile00001.xml
in other words a folder for each PC on the LAN
then a subfolder for the years
then a subfolder for the months[code].....
this solution would produce a clearer folder tree, but more files per folder.I do not know if this could be an issue in term of speed by file accessing with vb.net programs or other third hand application.

I am new to Visual Basic. I have Visual Basic 2010 Express. I am planning to make a program that can download files from a website to put on an SD Card to Soft Mod, or hack it. I want it so that the user clicks on a radio button based on what System Menu their Wii is running on. There is currently, System Menu 4.0 or less, System Menu 4.2, and System Menu 4.3.
They also have to choose a region from a List Box. The current options are:
Region U (Americas)
Region K (Korean)
Region J (Japanesse)
Region E (European)
I also want it so that the user can choose where to download the installation files for the Wii soft Mod.
I want to have a button that when the user clicks on it, a pop up asks them where they want to download the files to appear, once they choose a location, i want it to download a file based on what they chose and i also want it so that it tells them what to do with the files and where to put them.

I am having fun working with System.Threading.Tasks. Many of the code samples I see, however, look something like so:
Dim lcTask = Task.Factory.StartNew(Sub() DoSomeWork())
Dim lcTaskLong = Task.Factory.StartNew(Sub() DoSomeWork(), TaskCreationOptions.LongRunning)
Task.WaitAll(lcTask, lcTaskLong)
That's the extent of the sample.Tasks implement IDisposable, so obviously I'm supposed to dispose of them, but what if I just want to "Fire and Forget"?If I don't dispose, will I leak threads/handles/memory/karma?Am I using tasks "wrong"? (Should just use a delegate and leave tasks alone?)
Can I dispose in a "ContinueWith()"? (That seems like playing Russian Roulette.)[URL]..

My application displays a Splash Screen. In the Main form load event , we show another form in which user has to be select something. On the basis of that selection , the main form is loaded.
The scenario in which the main form is not shown in the task bar is :
1. Application runs , Splash screen is displayed.
2. a new window is shown to user to select something. this window comes over the splash screen.
3. Clicks ok on that window. The window is closed . Only splash screen is showing.
4.Now click on the space outside the Splash screen , the splash screen goes in backgound.
5. The main form is loaded. It comes for a moment in task bar but does not stay there. when i do alt+tab , it is there .

I have a MDI WinForms application that can perform several tasks. Each task is running as a backgroundWorker. What is the good approach to control the running threads:check whether the specific thread is running stop specific thread ?For example it shouldn't be possible to run the same task simultaneously.May be I need a separate class where I can store isTaskRunning variable?

I was wondering how to set a task in my program, For example if the user selects to take a screenshot on a chosen date and time the program would take that screenshot at the specified date and time. I have a DateTimePicker for my users to select a specific date and time to run the task. Since the date and time includes the date i don't think i can use a timer. And FX Cop said that timer intervals shouldn't be longer then a minute.

I have to sync information between a users table in SQL and a user group in active directory. For example, if a user is entered into SQL table A then they need to be entered into group A and if a user is removed from SQL table A, then remove them from group A.The application is written in ASP.NET (VB)
I see two solutions:
1) A scheduled task that runs every night syncing the two (written in VB.NET).
2) Use inpersonation so that Active Directory can be updated by the ASP.NET application. The Web.Config file will have to be encrypted in this solution.
I have read articles online that say it is bad practice to update AD in ASP.NET. This would suggest that option 1 is the better solution. Which is the better solution?

I am developing a web application in asp.net vb. My current situation is,I have a main site say [URL] and another site for generating reports depending on certain user ids say [URL].If I click a button on [URL] I have to switch on the generate report page on [URL] and return to[URL]. [URL] should generate report and set a flag in database of [URL].Currently I am redirecting to the page in xyz.com and add the long running task to queue as follows and redirect back to [URL].
If ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(New WaitCallback(AddressOf LongTimeTask), New Object) Then
Response.Redirect(returnURL)
End If
But the problem is its not dependable. Means some times the queue is executing correctly but some times not. There are no errors in long time task. Just the queue is not executing.
