View 39 RepliesWhat would be the best way to load and save a multi-dimensional array (of bytes). I've looked through streamreader tutorials but it always seems to instructions on how to save strings. I also know there's a very easy way to save a one-dimensional array, but it doesn't work on multi-dimensional ones. What should I be reading up on?
View 5 RepliesI have a string containing many lines. Each line has many values separated by commas. Basically it's in CSV format. The number of lines is variable but the number of columns is always 7.
I can get each line into a one dimensional array using Split(Var, Chr(10)).
I'd like to make it a two dimensional array where the second dimension contains each comma separated value.
I've got
Dim VarArray1() As String = Split(VarText, Chr(10))
Dim VaryArray2(0 To VarArray1.Length - 1, 0 To 6) As String
Is there a quick way to get the contents of VarArray1 into VarArray2. I know I can do the following.
For Counter = 0 to VarArray1.Length - 1
Dim line as string = VarArray1(Counter)
Dim Values() as string = Split(line, ",")
For Counter2 = 0 to 6
VarArray2(Counter,Counter2) = Values(Counter2)
Next Counter2
Next Counter
But is there a quicker way to do it that doesn't require passing through each element of VarArray1 and then passing through each element of Values.
The eventual goal in all of this will be to find the highest value in the 3rd column (the arrays are strings at this point because not all columns are numeric). To do that once I get the values into VarArray2 I suspect I have to pass through each element VarArray2, i.e. VarArray2(Counter,2). Unless I can copy the whole third column into a SortedList?
i would like to read a csv file and import this to another array that i am using for further calculations in other modules. i foresee something like below but am not sure how to make it work.

I am using visual studio 8. vb.net.I have an array, array1(100,8) and I want to save it as a csv file so that I can open it in excel and examine the contents more closely. The feature, of saving as a csv file, is not going to form an integral part of the finished vb app, I just need something quick and dirty because the data in the array just requires looking at in excel so that I can fully understand its significance and thus continue coding my app.
View 2 RepliesSituation: I have a .csv file containing numerical values. I'd like to read the file and write the values to a 2-D array of the same form. Problem: I get all the rows of the .csv file written to a 1-D array. Looking at the code, I thinking I have the indexing for column and row positions incrementing properly but (besides experience in C#) I don't know what I'm missing. Below is the code accomplishing this.

I have 9 1-dimensional arrays of bytes and 1 of them is empty, I want to make the empty one equal to the others put together like you would a string:

View 15 RepliesI am trying to input a text file of figures into a 2-dimensional array. I want to do this so I will then perform percent changes on the respective columns. The text file contains columns and then numerous rows for each columns each number is separated with a tab. The text file looks something like this.
2.2 5.5
3.7 6.3
9.2 9.1
So I need to be able to input the text file, turn it into an array and then find the total percent change. From 2.2-3.7-9.2
I am trying to turn data in a text file seperated by spaces into a 2D array.
It is for a math game. The data is statistics based on the performance of the user. One line looks like this "John Doe 0 0 1 3 0 6 0 22"
I need to put the line into an array and then be able to search by name to display the results. I keep getting extra spaces in the input of the array so the data isnt where it should be. It seems that the first entry works correctly, but appended lines do not enter correctly.
Sub ResultsToFile()
Dim FILE_NAME As String = "C:\Student_Results.txt"
Dim RecordString As String = NameForm.PlayerFirstName & " " &

I am exporting my values in my textboxes to an excel spreadsheet (user clicks "Export" button on form). After it is done, it asks me if i want to overwrite my current excel spreadsheet. Is there a way that I can open a save as dialog box so I can choose what name and where to save it?

i have prepare one Excel file which contains 2 colums of data . one is having account number & other one is having Descrption .
here Few of the descriptions are having - or + signs in starting of the Description. like - internal increment.
when i save the same file as a CSV file then this perticular cells are displaying as #NAME? ( =- internal increment ).
Due to combination of =- perticular cell contents are displaying as #NAME?
disable treating as formula so that i can load this file to my application as needed.
I am creating a shell for a FORTRAN application which reads a tab delimited text file.Because I am using Excel to manipulate data, is it possible to use the Excel Automation features to "save as" a tab delimited text file?The only method available seems to be a unicode text format, which does not work. Or is there another format that mimics tab delimited so that the FORTRAN application will read such a file without difficulty?

I have a windows form application written using vb.net 2005 to generate and save an excel file. I faced some problems with the saving of excel file. The program will prompt a message box with 'Yes', 'No' or 'Cancel' options if the existing file exists. If user choose 'Yes', it will override the existing file. If user choose 'No', it will open a savefiledialog to allow user to specify the location and name to save the file. Do i use filestream object to save the file when user choose either 'Yes' or 'No'? How can i go about doing it or where can i find sample coding.

View 2 RepliesI have two different 2-dimensional arrays. I assume the setting i need to save them to is a string setting, as is the cast with regular integer arrays. The first 2-d array I need to save is an integer, the second a decimal.
Let's say the settings are called my.settings.2darray1 and my.settings.2darray2
Let's also say the arrays are:
vb
dim 2darray1(50, 99) as integer dim 2darray2(50, 99) as decimal
What would the code be to load each array and save each array?
I am having a problem understanding the following error message:
Value of type 1-dimensional array of string cannont be converted to 2-dimensional array of string because the array types have different numbers of dimensions This line seems to be causing the error:

I did a Google search on this but didnt come up with anything useful. I didnt even change the code.I just found this example online and copied/pasted it into a project that Im working on.

I am trying to use the BGW to save a DGV to excel file, but don't know how to do it correctly, specifically setting the savefile name this code doesn't work gives me:
'System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException' occurred
- Make sure the specified folder exists.
- Make sure the folder that contains the file is not read-only.
- Make sure the file name does not contain any of the following characters:
Ensure that your Main function has STAThreadAttribute marked on it. This exception is only raised if a debugger is attached to the process. I also tried doing the Save in the BGW RunWorker Completed event but then there is no file name. It seems I need to pass the file name the user inputs in the SaveFileDialog to the BWG WorkerCompleted event somehow

I'm working on a program that when you click a button called new it pops up a new form asking for you to enter a directory location. If the directory exists it saves it into this file:
"C:WindowsSettingsButtonVariableSaves.ini"
I already have working code that saves each directory entered into the ini file on its own line.
Now in this code I'm trying to call each variable back from the ini file when form1_loads and set it to an array called ary() so later I can set the first 10 saved within the array.
So later:
button1.text = ary(1)
button2.text = ary(2)
and so on to
button10.text = ary(10)
and the reason I set the array to record all lines even if theres more than 10 because I want to be able to add more buttons later on.
Here's my current code for saving lines to an array:
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
Dim FILE_NAME As String = "C:WindowsSettingsButtonVariableSaves.ini"

xlfile.SaveAs(FileName:=finalfilename, FileFormat:=6)
This code puts " around the data, puts the data in the range and saves the workbook(xlfile) with one worksheet(xlsheet) as a csv file.
If I open the csv file in notepad I find these following
1.quotes are removed
2.leading 0 from numbers are removed
How to ensure that quotes are present while saving the file programatically?
I'm working on a project with a large multidimensional array
resrv(200,12,31,33) it keeps track of information on specific dates within a 200 year range.
What I'm looking to do is save the array to a file so that I can load it again when the program is started.
In VB 6 I used to be able to use a simple for next loop into an open file and load it the same way. It doesn't seem to work the same way with Fthe filestream class in VB.net
how to save an array of structure to binary file. I tried the binary formatter but it still aint workin. My code attached

Dim fileData() As myData
Dim myFile As myProps

i need to save an array of intptrs as a part of a structure in a file, vb.net gives me "File I/O of a structure with field 'pList' of type 'IntPtr' is not valid." error, ok i figured and tried to convert them to integers and while it worked for other singular intptrs it did not for the array as it just throws me a conversion error. I then tried rebuilding the array in the new sub of the save structure and while that sorta worked(i think) it then gives a "bad size" error when saving. Im out of ideas, saving the array elements one by one would be suicide as the amount varies and is well in hundreds,
View 1 RepliesI have an Excel file with utilizes macros to allow a user to enter names of people and then double click on cells to enter ratings via radio buttons. When I open a blank file and enable the macros, I can add users, rate their skills using the radio buttons, etc. with no issue. I then SaveAs the file and continue working on it. once I Save and CLOSE the file, then go to re-open it, the trouble begins. Keep in mind, there is no alteration to the macros directly. Just entering data and using the form as intended. Here's what happens.
I reopen the file.I enter in the name of a person on one line. I go to the first box - double click on it.It is supposed to pop up a dialog box which allows me to choose a rating via radio button (as I had been doing before I closed the file). Instead, in that first column of ratings, it instead gives me the following error:
Runtime error '1004'Unable to set the LineStyle property of the Border class
When I hit "debug" this is the code it points to:
If ActiveCell.Column = leftb Then Range(Cells(ActiveCell.Row, leftb), Cells(ActiveCell.Row, rightb + 1)).Borders(xlEdgeTop).LineStyle = xlContinuous I have no idea why this would not work when I re-open the file!
note that when I go to click on the subsequent cells (there are 8 cells in which you provide ratings, moving across the columns with each cell) - the 2nd through 8th cells function fine. The dialog box pops up, the rating can be selected. it's just the FIRST cell that gives the issue What would possibly be the cause of this? We need users of this form to be able to save, close, and re-open it if needed.
