Searching And Displaying Data From A Sequential Access File?

Im working on a program that will display a price when an item number is entered in the search box. I have the information in a text file for the program to find it but am unable. I have successfully made it so the items show up in a list box and will show the price when clicked on, but cant get the other one to work.
Here is my code for searching from a search box:

I'm trying to get a program running that loads a sequential file such as "records.txt" into a two dimmensional array and searches the "records.txt" for the data that the user enters into a text box. Not quite sure how to go about doing this.

I am getting data from an SQL Server database and displaying the data on a Windows form.How do I navigate through the data in a Sequential Order or Sort Order using the the REP_ID number? Example: When I use the navigation to move from one data to the other, can I go from; example: 100001 to 100002 and so on?
Finally is there any hint as to why I am getting the time with the dates? I know it is converted to text but not sure how to remove the time and just get the dates.Here is the entire project code:

I have a datagrid displaying details from a sequential text file. I need to have a button to search through this textfile and display only that line of data in my datagrid. I am using an input box to enter the persons name they wish to search for. The datafile contains several lines of info like : John, Murphy, 35, etc.

I have to write a program that allows a user to input DVD info such as DVD Name, Year produced, Running Time, and Rating. The user then clicks a menu item "New" to save that info to a file. Then the next time the user inputs new DVD info it has to append the new data to the same file. (I got this far and everything is working writing and appending data)Next the year has to be able to search by DVD Video name and it has to print the info in the text boxes on the form, if not found then a messagebox should say not found. When I use the sub procedure that I have created to search the record it always comes back as record not found although the record in in the file.

I am working on a program in Visual Basic that incorporates using a sequential access file for a ballot type program. Each type the user clicks the save vote button, the amount of votes gets stored.
What I am trying to do is in my access file is to display the number of votes as an actual number. The way my program is written right now, the name of the candidate appears as many times as the vote was saved.
for example, if perez was voted for 4 times, in the access file perez is displayed on 4 different lines. How do I display the actual number of how many time they were voted for. I'm thinking using a counter variable, but not really sure how to really implement it in. this is what i have so far.

I am stuck on an easy problem I'm sure, but for the life of me i cannot figure it out. I need to read a sequential file into a listbox. I can read the file into the textbox but i want to format the data in the listbox. for example i want to PadLeft(10), delete the excess commas, and give a heading for each column. here is the code i have and attached is the text file.

In my program i have a listbox populated with data from a sequential text file. [code] Mary, Murphy, 16, 893782, Douglas etc.From here the user selects the person they wish to see displayed in the datagrid with all all other relevant details from the text file displaying. I know how to search for one specific number from a single line in an access database using a query, but now I have to search through a whole database and display each instance. Ex) I search the number "1" in column "1" of the database and it has "2" instances. So now I have to take the corresponding data in the rows next to it in order to display them in the label.
search: "1", both results are ID = "1"
results:
dates amount
10/13/2009 $43.00
12/25/2009 $86.00
I know how to put the results for "1" line of a database into the .item field, but im confused on how to search multiple lines of a database and store multiple items. Heres what I have so far...

I am quite green to VB .NET and it start occuring to me that I am doing things probably in a very ineffective way.Anyway here is the problem I have datasets, consisting of integers there is set 1 which is of format ID, ID2 - ID here is unique but different ID can refer to same ID2. Before I start reading in the data I have unknown number of these entries (ID and ID2 can be at least as high as 99999999)
Then I have a second data set of format ID2 here is the same as in the set 1 and it can contain several PID entries (all integers). In this set the ID2 is unique and again for one ID2 there can be unknown amount of these PIDs, same PID can occur more than once.

how to display data coming from different tables in access in a form?...the case is this:
3 tables in access:
AddBook(tablename) - ISBN(primary key), Book_Title, Author
Student(tablename) - Student_ID(primary key), Student_Name, Course, Year
Transact(tablename) - Transaction_No(primary key), ISBN(foreign key), Student_ID(foreign), Date_Borrowed
i think you can already picture it out... so what i want is to display data from Transact table and also display the data from Student and AddBook table base on the value of the foreign keys in Transact table....

I need to open an excel file from vb.net and then search it for specific data. I then need to take those data and insert them into text boxes on a form that i have created. This is all controlled by a button click. I already have some code that will open a file dialog box and let me navigate to the correct file, but I am having trouble with the search portion. I have tried the Find function but I am not sure of the proper syntax. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and Excel 2003.

I will include a link to a copy of my source Code. The Problem is that I have to create a user management system. I have almost all my features working but there are one or two I can't get working. When the program loads a text file is read and the program lists the first name of everyone in the text file into a list box. I want to be able to get so that when you click a name in the list box, the persons information will be displayed in the text boxes to the left. And also when you edit those text boxes you can click the button for modify current and it will modify that persons data. The other problem I'm having is being able to search that text file for the users e-mail and return the first names of people who have that e-mail into the listbox.

I am trying to copy the values to another sheet but not in any sequence eg.A1,B2,C4,D7 ........and so on. I am trying this slick way of doing it by the code below ( found on the web) without success so far but I got a feeling I am close to the solution. I am new to any kind of Programming. I've tried a few different methods I could find in order to connect my VB .NET program to a book store's database. While I've been able to connect to it and display the contents of its tables in a DataGrid, I need to be able to search the tables and display specific records, depending on the contents of appropriate the adjacent text boxes.[code]This is a code I've used for a very similar process, just really aims to search a different field in the table. If this is easier to adapt into a code that allows searching and producing specific records in a database, please use this one.

A simple database has been created in Access, which is just basically a table of text, with some images as entries. A form has been created in VB2008 Express and linked to the database. Either a combibox, text boxes or pictureboxes are linked to a column form the database. The first row entries are all displayed correctly in the relavant boxes (except for the images, which for some reason aren't displayed). If another value in the comibox is selected, the other box values don't change and there is still no images visible...

In my program theres a form where the user enters the ID number and other details of a customer. i want the program to be able , If the ID number already exists when the user enters it and clicks on ok, to display an error message telling them that the ID already exists otherwise it adds the id and the details to a database. Im not sure how i would do that im thinking it would be an SQL statement? not sure.

I have a .txt file that I need to be able to search from a text box, and then display the results in a listbox. Each line is formatted as the following.Jim Wells,1/12/85,3,999-555-4562ith the textbox I need to search the file for the third value (in this case the 3). But I need to search all lines of the file, and any line that has a 3 or whatever number is searched in the textbox needs to be displayed in the listbox in this format.

I know that Deleting a specific line in a sequential text file is impossible but instead copy the needed lines and not copying the unneeded ones to an output file .. killing the old one and renaming the new one with the same.. I can't make this step...

I made a form that when you put your CustomerID in Text3 Box.. it access the records and make some calculations. now.. The customer will return the car.. Then his data should be deleted.. I want to know how to make that when I enter the CustomerID and press on the Command button .. It copies the other lines to a new output folder and doesn't copy these ... So it appears to be deleted using this way..
