View 2 RepliesI want to copy files with a specific extension (for example .config or .exe). It should create a structure of nested directories, and then insert each file into a specified place in the directory hierarchy. Ideally I would just specify a parent directory for each file and a parent directory for each directory and it would build it.
I need any existing utility or batch file or power-shell script or C#/VB .Net code to perform this activity.
So I've been using some code to generate directories and such in a custom treeview, but am looking to expand upon this idea. While it's not using recursive functions, and only calls functions when expanding levels, I'm not quite sure how to put some of these together.find a way to just search through all folders on the PC. If the folder contains audio files, that folder is than added to an array (searching a folder for audio files and adding that folder to an array is done). It's just recursivly searching all folders on the PC.Here is the code I've been using for the treeview (I'm not sure if it can be adapted):
Public Function ListAllDrives() As String()
Dim arDrives() As String
arDrives = Directory.GetLogicalDrives()[code].....
I have search system that works like charm: 1> Searches specific folder for text files which contain specific word 2> Puts those text file names and/or paths to listbox However i want it to put (instead of InputStr) the specific line where word is found in text file to listbox.

I tried this code but I don't know how to complete it. the code is to check if there is a file with extension ".mdb" in folder Debug in my project, and if there is a file it will get the name of it.
MsgBox(IO.File.Exists(IO.Path.HasExtension(Application.StartupPath)))
How to get the value on a specific row by searching?i.e., I have a gridview:
A B C
---------
1 2 3

I am trying to write a small app that searches the GAC for a dll. I have been trying to get this done but can't seem to find any resources online. I am using VS.Net 2008.
View 3 RepliesI'm using extension methods based on an array and I would like to know if there is an easy way to check that array got a specify size instead of me doing a copy paste of
if array.count != 1000
throw new exception "size of the array does not match"
in about ~50 extensions
this a small sample of extensions that I use, I got WAY more
<Extension()>
Public Function IsWhite(ByVal board() As bitPiece, ByVal pos As Integer) As Boolean
Return (board(pos) And bitPiece.White) = bitPiece.White
End Function

So im trying to get evything that has ends with .iso into a list box, tryed a couple of things but not getting anywhere as yeat
Here is code.
Dim Locate As String = Application.StartupPath & "\Games\"
ListBox1.Items.Add(Locate.EndsWith("*.iso"))
The Locate String is there because thats the location where the iso files are but the application is in the root of the drive. The ListBox1 command is fairly easy to understand
I need to accum some data based on whether or not an SSN number appears in the data. I have it in a string, what I need to do is search for a numeric pattern within the string such as:I looked into regex a bit, but I don't have much time to read deep into it (my company needs the program this week) and it seems too complex to grasp in such a short time. What I've came across so far is:
If (rec.address1 Like "###-##-####")
but I don't know if this will filter it out of the string (it can appear with an address attached to it).
I have a program which grabs the source code of a webpage and puts it into a string. I would now like to search the string for two values.
"video_id": "value 1 here"
"t": "value 2 here"
The problem, is that I don't know the position of the values, and I the values change depending on each webpage. All I know, is the text before the value, e.g. "video_id" and "t:"
Here is my code:
Dim videoid As String = TextBox1.Text.Trim
Dim wc As New System.Net.WebClient()
Dim result As String = wc.DownloadString(videoid)
i am using vb 2010 express
im trying to search a selected folder for all extension in listbox1
here is my current code. it only works if i highlight the listbox1 i want it to go thru all the extentsion in the list box. if possible when they click the button can it do a OpenFileDialog and use that dir and add them to listbox2 intead of "c:"
Dim count As Integer = (ListBox1.Items.Count - 1)
Dim words As String

I can search all the images with .jpg extension and pass it to the fancybox gallery , The issue is i just want the images of particular productid for instance if a product has 5 images , and they are saved as (productid_imagenumber.jpg) , therefore a product with productid 99 will be saved as 99_1.jpg , 99_2.jpg similarly 99_5.jpg,I can pass the productID but i cant find a away just to get the images of that productID , instead of getting all the images which is done by the function below:
Dim directory As DirectoryInfo = New System.IO.DirectoryInfo("C:Images")
Dim allImages() = directory.GetFiles("*.jpg", SearchOption.AllDirectories)
Dim strContent As String = ""
For Each image As FileInfo In allImages

View 4 RepliesThere's an INI file that I want to access and read information from. This is the complete content of the INI file in question: http:[url]....I believe it is because of the [ ] tags in that INI file. Because they work if I remove the tags.My program has a bunch of comboboxes, trackbars and checkboxes. These items will be filled by the information taken from the INI file.For instance, ini file has these lines;
bCrosshairEnabled=1
bDoDepthOfField=0
bFXAAEnabled=1[code]...
Example: I want the checkbox8 in my form to get checked if bFXAAEnabled has a value of 1 or unchecked if it is 0.
I've tried a few different methods I could find in order to connect my VB .NET program to a book store's database. While I've been able to connect to it and display the contents of its tables in a DataGrid, I need to be able to search the tables and display specific records, depending on the contents of appropriate the adjacent text boxes.[code]This is a code I've used for a very similar process, just really aims to search a different field in the table. If this is easier to adapt into a code that allows searching and producing specific records in a database, please use this one.
View 2 RepliesI am coding on Visual Basic 2010 and need some My Access database table has following information:
FirstName
LastName
PhoneNumber
Basically what I am trying to do is create a Search function where the user will enter a First and Last Name in the search boxes and upon hitting the ''Search'' button the program will look through the database and check if the records exists.
If the record does exist then I want the Phone number to appear in a separate textbox which is named txtPhoneN. I have included the code I use to connect to the Database. I have already managed code the part to Add new record to the database.

I have the following simple code for searching for a text string within a folder and have several questions:
Dim searchFolder As String = "C:BakerOrders estOrders"
Dim files As ReadOnlyCollection(Of String)
files = My.Computer.FileSystem.FindInFiles(searchFolder, "NEXT DAY PM", True,
[Code].....
The folder will contain up to 1,000 text files (at any point) at 20kb to 50kb each. The scan should occur every 5 sec with ~200 new files and (-) ~200 exiting files during this period.
Questions: The previous code only catch files from 1 text string. Is there a way of doing one search and returning the files which contain any of the 3 strings? Is there a more effective way of achieving this? Is there a simple / effective way of searching each file only one time by keep track of previous results while searching only the 200 new additions each scan?
I'm trying to create a folder search operation. The folder will have several text files (.txt), and user will specify the folder path and a search string, and the program will search the exact string within the text files which are located in the specified folder, and show the files. So far I've done nothing. I don't know how I can do folder operations with vb.net. a link to reading material.
View 1 RepliesI have a excel report with one sheet called "Export Report". I then add 4 more sheets and rename them accordingly.
I then need to search in "Export Report" in column A, but unknown row for the word 'Definitions' and then once found I have to copy 'Definitions' and 10 rows belows it, to the sheet called "Definitions"
How can I achieve this? At the moment I am stuck at the point of finding the word 'Definitions'. I get error Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A9C64 at this line:
LastRow = xlApp.Workbooks(1).Worksheets("Export Report").Cells(xlApp.Workbooks(1).Worksheets("Export Report").rows.count, "A").end(Excel.XlDirection.xlUp).row + 1

I know how to search a text file for a specific line, but what I don't know is then how to delete that line?My text file is set up as such:
021,Donovan,56 Eynesford Crescent,Bexley,SE5 1TR,09/08/1967,13 March 2012,Bronze
062,Fredrikson,6 Freil Road,Gravesend,GR9 TRB,12/06/1995,13 March 2012,Silver
So I know how to search for the 3 character integer at the beginning of each line, but how do I then delete this line?
I'm currently using this code
Imports System.IO
Public Class Form6
Private Sub SearchBtn_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles SearchBtn.Click

I am having a namespace extension implemented, which is visible in "MY Computer". I want to write automated test cases to browse through the same. I am able to open the explorer window till the namespace extension. as -
Process.Start("explorer.exe", "shell:::{CLSID of my namespace }")
next I want to search for a particular folder name inside the window opened. For example if i give input as "temp", then my mouse should move to "temp" folder in the namespace explorer window. then I double click on the mouse's current position and enter that folder. next i give input as "doc1.doc", then my mouse should be able to locate & move to "doc1.doc" file. Also getDirectory or GetFile etc APIs won't work because I don't have a standard drive associated with my namespace & don't have a relative path either.
Having a bit of an issue with my file.scanner and that issue is that I cannot figure out how to run multi.threading when searching the files within a folder(8,000+ files).
Imports System.IO
Module x
Function xGetFolderFilesCount(ByVal selFolder As String) As Integer

I have a file search that I want the user to select the folder they are searching the file in. At the moment I have
If Check.Text = "Correct" Then
If My.Computer.FileSystem.FileExists("C:Systemsfile.txt") Then
1CheckBox.Checked() = True
Else
1CheckBox.Checked = False
End If
However this check will be used for various files and its not usable if the FileExists directory stays the same ie searching the same folder and file for different records. I have a FolderBrowseDialog that I want the user to select the folder first in where to search and then within this chosen folder the static file will be checked. I have this as my folderbrowsedialog:
Dim Browser As New FolderBrowserDialog
Browser.Description = "Please select ."
Browser.ShowNewFolderButton = False
Browser.RootFolder = "c:"
Browser.SelectedPath = "c:windows"
If Browser.ShowDialog = Windows.Forms.DialogResult.OK Then
Me.text.Text = Browser.SelectedPath
End If
I tried adding in this code to the actual file check to encoporated the dynamic folder search but its bringing up errors and not working, I have this:
Dim path As String = "Browser"
Dim f As ReadOnlyCollection(Of String) = My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFiles("test.xlsx")
If My.Computer.FileSystem.FileExists("test.xlsx") Then
Box.Checked() = True
I am using the .getdirectory to scan my whole c drive for certain files to be backup. e.g *.doc. however when i run the code, i hit into error. stating folder access error. one of the folder which cause the error is system information volume.

I'm developing an application that adds .class files to a .jar using Ionic.Zip (Found Here) but this library does not support removing files from a zip, only adding them. Is there another free, open-source API that would allow me to add and remove files from an archive?
For those of you who don't know, .jar files work the same as .zip files, except their executable java files. The .jar i'm adding to and removing from, the developer said that anyone can do such things with it if they want.
