I have a form that holds Customer details. I want to show relating data in a datgrid on the same form that will vary depending on what customer is selected.

Apr 29, 2010Would it be possible to make my program visit a website and basicly filling out a text field and using the submit button in a form?For example; I have a text field named "Field" in my webpage, and I want my Visual Basic 2008 application to visit that page, and automaticly fill out that field named "Field" with a string I gave my application, and next to click on the submit button.The purpose for this is because I want that the users of my application can post feedback on my webpage. I was looking for something like a MySql client but it's best if I would encrypt/hide the protected information such as table names or MySql passwords.And I believe that these users need to have specific MySql drivers installed to use it. So this idea sounds better. So, is there a way to navigate trough a website like this?

Jan 20, 2010I am able to load a dataset with records from a sql database. I then loop through the data using a for loop, this works fine. As part of the loop I would like to update the contents of a textBox.text property. The problem is that it will only update the text field when the loop is complete. How can I update the text content for each record in the loop? I hope this makes since.

Do I have to put the txtTax.text output statement somewhere else?

Apr 24, 2011I am trying to bind data from a text box on my form to a field in my database table. First of all I have created a DataSet, BindingSource and Table Adapter in the forms Design view, but I am having from there. Under the properties of each text box I have set the DataBindings (Text) to the field in the table under the forms instance and DataSet rather than the Projects Data Sources. I am very rusty at Visual Studio 2005 and that is all I have to work with.

I want to use LINQ to select all rows where the calculated value fields are null.But when I use isNothing I get an error that LINQ can't translate this into T-SQL. Is there a way to select null values with link, like this...?

Other posts on stackoverflow mostly discuss how to avoid or check for null values with LINQ.
Note: I can't just set cacluatedValue's default to -1 to flag records whose calculated value has not been set (and then select those records) because I run queries that sum/average the calculated values. Selecting nulls seems cleaner and less bug-prone.

Nov 5, 2010I just started using VS 2010. This product is supposed to be so much better than VS 2008 yet I'm noticing a couple of glaring things that are failures if you ask me.
1. When designing a Gridview, after having clicked on Edit Columns, in VS 2008 I could select the first field listed on the left side of the window, set a property--say headStyle-- and set the Horizontal Align to Left. Then if I clicked on the next field, that same property would still be selected on the right side of the window. In VS 2010, I have to go through finding the property and then expanding it and selecting it for each individual field. While it seems like a small thing, it's time consuming and kind of a pain. Is there some reason they couldn't have made it behave the same as in VS 2008?

Jan 30, 2009I've created the beginnings of my new web application, but I am often coming up against the issue that ASP.NET renames elements IDs or in the case of form fields, their names.I have a form which is basically a sales system. It is essentially made up of two User Controls, one is a form for Customer Details (name, address etc) and the second is a form for the customer's purchases, it consists of a number lines dynamically created by Javascript created as you list the items the customer is purchasing. Both these sections are User Controls because they are to be used for other areas of the system where this data will need to be recalled/re-entered.When the USer Control is loaded, the field which contains the Customers' Name is renamed "m$mainContent$customerForm$name" I understand where this comes from, "m" is the ID of my Master Page, "mainContent" is the main Content Placeholder and "customerForm" is the name of the User Control.
In fact, in my case, this will always remain the same on all forms, so it is relative easy to overcome... but... suppose it wasn'tI can see there are ways I could deal with this with Javascript, but the form doesn't need an AJAX submit, a normal Post will do fine for this, so when I open up the recieving page I want to call Request.Form("name")% to save the customer's name into the database, but of course I really need Request.Form("m$mainContent$customerForm $name")%How would I dynamically extract those prefixes from the posting form to ensure that if I rename anything or use it in a different scenario, the problem will not break it?I am using .NET 2.0, so can't use Static Client.
