[2008] Multiple Results - Data Entries In My Database That Have A Common Field
Jan 31, 2009I have data entries in my database that have a common field. For example:
account_id type user_id
1 new 1
2 old 3
3 new 1
4 old 1
I am using a query like this(mysql): SELECT account_id, type, user_id FROM table WHERE user_id = 1
This is just all theoretical. The problem that I am having with this is it is only returning the first result in this case account_id 1. How can I get it to find all the results with the user_id 1 because in the way I am thinking that it is failing is that it is finding only the first result and then ending?

Jul 28, 2009My application stands at the minute where the user can fill in a textbox, hit search and gets the results. The problem is that the user only get the exact name i.e. if he types in golf he only gets golf, what I need it to be able to do is when he types 'go' and hits search it shows all of the entries that contain 'go'.
My Current syntax is
"Select * from Software WHERE STitle = '" + TxtSearch.Text + "'"

Jun 30, 2010I am to make a program that lets the user save certain data values with a delimiter(":") to a text file(done) Example of data entries [code]Then i am to load those values to a listbox , i was able to do that as well and i include the delimiter when i load the values.Now i am supposed to let the user enter any month/year value for date(mm/yyyy) such as 06/2010 and if any of the entries match the search string then either the program selects those values in the listbox or a popup msgbox is used to show the entries. How the result is displayed is a little irrelevant, but how do i search and atleast select the matching entries in the listbox ? and not just the first instance but all instances of the search string.

Nov 29, 2009I have a program where you have three entries, CD name, artist, price and it goes into a listbox and .txt file when closing. I have to have a message box if you enter the same CD name. I have a code to open the .txt file and compare strings but I need to change it to compare only the CD name and not all three entries. Is there a way to do my string compare against my listbox without opening the .txt file?? The program loads the listbox from the .txt file when opening. Modify Table Entries Based On Other Entries?
Jun 22, 2010I want to set a certain column to true or false automatically based on what value another column has entered. I managed to get this working by myself using the 'SQL Pane' in VB and testing it by using execute sql but I don't know what to do now. I assumed that I could just save it and it would work from there but that's not the case, it dissapears from the SQL Pane if I close the project (even though it worked fine when I ran the project the first time), so where do I put it/what do I do with it in order to get this to work?

I want to use LINQ to select all rows where the calculated value fields are null.But when I use isNothing I get an error that LINQ can't translate this into T-SQL. Is there a way to select null values with link, like this...?

Other posts on stackoverflow mostly discuss how to avoid or check for null values with LINQ.
Note: I can't just set cacluatedValue's default to -1 to flag records whose calculated value has not been set (and then select those records) because I run queries that sum/average the calculated values. Selecting nulls seems cleaner and less bug-prone.

Nov 5, 2010I just started using VS 2010. This product is supposed to be so much better than VS 2008 yet I'm noticing a couple of glaring things that are failures if you ask me.
1. When designing a Gridview, after having clicked on Edit Columns, in VS 2008 I could select the first field listed on the left side of the window, set a property--say headStyle-- and set the Horizontal Align to Left. Then if I clicked on the next field, that same property would still be selected on the right side of the window. In VS 2010, I have to go through finding the property and then expanding it and selecting it for each individual field. While it seems like a small thing, it's time consuming and kind of a pain. Is there some reason they couldn't have made it behave the same as in VS 2008?

Apr 8, 2009I have an app that I'm calling up a 3rd party API.. and on each call I want to store off the patient data in to logs that are like weekly.. so on each call to the API I want to encrypt the data and push as a line into a file..I kinda dont want to open the file.. add in data then encrypt the whole file, that seems like extra work to me.so if I want to encypt the data from string to byte whats the best way to push into a file and then read out.. should I set the string to be a certain lenght so my writes and reads match up ? or is there a way to write to a data file so that it knows the end of the entry ? should I use a type class for this ?
