How To Search And Atleast Select Matching Entries In List-box

I am to make a program that lets the user save certain data values with a delimiter(":") to a text file(done) Example of data entries [code]Then i am to load those values to a listbox , i was able to do that as well and i include the delimiter when i load the values.Now i am supposed to let the user enter any month/year value for date(mm/yyyy) such as 06/2010 and if any of the entries match the search string then either the program selects those values in the listbox or a popup msgbox is used to show the entries. How the result is displayed is a little irrelevant, but how do i search and atleast select the matching entries in the listbox ? and not just the first instance but all instances of the search string.

My application stands at the minute where the user can fill in a textbox, hit search and gets the results. The problem is that the user only get the exact name i.e. if he types in golf he only gets golf, what I need it to be able to do is when he types 'go' and hits search it shows all of the entries that contain 'go'.
My Current syntax is

I have a program where you have three entries, CD name, artist, price and it goes into a listbox and .txt file when closing. I have to have a message box if you enter the same CD name. I have a code to open the .txt file and compare strings but I need to change it to compare only the CD name and not all three entries. Is there a way to do my string compare against my listbox without opening the .txt file?? The program loads the listbox from the .txt file when opening. I have a textbox for searching a database. When the text changes it runs a functioncFilter() and loads the records. It is set up to search different columns of a database, and it unfortunately only the first record matching is pulled from the database. Example: when the database contains two people (Bob Smith & Bob Smitt) the user can type the name in the search field. However When the user types Bob Smit it only returns Bob Smith and not both names in the database. I want this to act as a filter, dynamically changing the last with each additional letter typed in the search box. Below is my source code,

For a project i am working on, i am taking bookings. These bookings are stored in a database alongside a users personal details. The personal details are assigned an ID according to the user who booked it. A user can book more than once with different personal details.
My problem is that i want a user to be able to edit a booking. I want a list of all the names that user booked to be listed in a combo box. This is the part i am having trouble with. i am using an access database and using sql statements to pull out the data. This is what i have tried so far:
SELECT [First Name]
FROM PersonalDetails
GROUP BY [First Name], UserID
HAVING (UserID = ?)
If i execute this query in the query editor, it works and shows the two records currently assigned the input id. However, if i try to output this to, for example, a text box, then it remains blank. I am assuming thisis because there is more than one output, but i'm not sure.

I have a list of names of players and their names in some game. Now an administrator of that game might want to contact one of the players by sending him a message. He does that by writing a command that basically has the format "tell <player> <message>", where <player> is the name of the player.The problem is simple: player names might be quite complicated and long (it's their screen name not their real name), and it would take the admin quite some time to find out how to spell the name exactly and he will probably make a few mistakes. Basically, having the admin type out the exact name is not practical.So I am trying to implement a 'fuzzy logic' search (is that even the correct term?) but with a twist, I guess.The idea is that the admin can type just part of the name and is even allowed to make a couple mistakes. For example, suppose a player has a screen name of "Mr.Smith34", then the admin should be able to type, for example.[code]
The problem now is that there can be absolutely no ambiguity in which player is meant. Instead of sending a message (which is quite harmless) the admin should also be able to 'kick' or ban someone from a game server, banning them from ever playing there again. Obviously, the admin should then not accidently ban a player named "Mrs.Smith" when he meant "Mr.Smith"! My solution (unless someone else can come up with something better) is to just not allow the command if there are multiple matches. If the admin searches for 'smith' and there are multiple names that are similar to 'smith' (maybe even 'sith' or similar) then I disregard that search and tell the admin he needs to try again with a more specific name.(If all else fails he can always look up the ID of the player and use that, which should be foolproof as long as the admin doesn't make a mistake and picks the wrong ID..., but that is even more work it does not have preference).But this brings further problems. The example I just gave might be good: suppose there's a player "Mr.Smith" and a player "Sith". If the admin searches for 'Smith' then there should be no question who he meant (Mr.Smith), but I am sure any fuzzy logic implementation would count Sith as a very close match... Another thing is that my solution of only allowing the search if there is just a single match probably wouldn't work. I have never used fuzzy logic searching before, but I can imagine some names being marked as 'slightly similar' even when they are completely different ('smi' might match 'smith', but also 'ims' perhaps, in which case it would possibly match a whole new range of names), even though 'for humans' it is clear which result is meant.
I am assuming any fuzzy search would return the matches and rate them according to how similar they are to the search term. Perhaps I can choose some kind of cut-off value, where any matches that are less than 30% similar (I've no idea just guessing here) are assumed not equal whereas higher ranked matches are assumed a possible match. Perhaps this makes it easier (perhaps harder, I dunno), but I forgot to mention that the search term cannot contain any spaces. Player screen names can contain spaces though. I am thinking to just strip out the spaces of each name before starting the search, but perhaps there are better solutions in combination with fuzzy searching...

The above is a code snippet... of course I've already made my declarations earlier in the code. My issue is I get the error " 'Select Case' must end with a matching 'End Select'." It looks to me like VB is not liking my If statement with the "Next For" in the middle. I'm sure this is a basic syntax issue.

Instead of a UDT containing a string variant ie If .view="Left" then
Can it be changed to a list of defined entries in the UDT If .view.Left then
I could define the subentities as boolean but each time I change one I would have to change the others
.view.Left = True
.view.Right=False
.view.Top=False
It would just make coding a bit faster. I don't know if it's possible but I've been surprised in the past when I didn't think something was possible.

am using sql 2005 and vb 2008.i need to compare dates and select matching records betweem a selected date range.say records between 11/13/2010 and 11/20/2010.e.thing is working ok except when it comes to selecting dates between 11/1/2010 and 11/9/2010.this is happening because when am retrieving the dates from database,its being retrieved in the format 11/01/2010 instead of 11/1/2010 and so it reports no records found,and knowing the limits of sql 2005 this is the only way i can retrieve the date. I was playing with ASP.NET MVC 1.0 a couple of days ago. I started out with a single table DB named 'Contacts', with very simple structure e.g. Title, FullName, SurName, Email, Phone, Address etc.I'm using LINQ as my Model.In my main view I wanted to display a list of alphabets that have matching FullNames starting with that alphabet plus the count of FullNames. Someting similar as shown below:
A - (2)
D - (4)
J - (1)
and so on.One particular thing about the display is that i don't want to display those alphabets that have no names starting with them.I tried a couple of queries but didn't succeed.

I have an 'In' folder that users drop all different types of files into (.doc, .xls, .rtf, .pdf etc.).Each file that gets dropped into the 'In' folder should have a matching .pdf file (i.e. abc123.doc and abc123.pdf)I have a program which looks into this 'In' directory at regular intervals and moves filename.* to another directory. The folder the files get moved to depends on the first 2 characters of the filename (12-abc.doc might get copied to folder '12' etc).All the files placed in the 'In' folder should have both a native file and a matching .pdf i.e. (abc123.doc and abc123.pdf)In some cases the native file is missing. In some cases the .pdf is missing.There are 2 things that I want to do.
1.) I want to prevent files being moved from the 'In' folder if a .pdf does not exist (I think I can deal with this one ok).
I think perhaps a For Next Loop Array for filenames minus the file extension and if it already exists in the array then copy them (but what if someone has got a .doc and a .xls but no .pdf?!?!? I'm sure somebody could tell me a simple way of achieving this.
2.) This is the part I am struggling with. I need to look in existing folders that files have already been copied to and list:
a.) Native file without matching .pdf
b.) .pdf without matching native file
c.) .pdf with matching native file

I have 7 textbox entries and I would like to add them to a listbox and when I close my application it would save them, I have the code for the 7 texboxes and everything like that has been done, but I just dont know how to add multiple textboxs to a listbox then save the list box so when I close the application and reopen it, itll still be there. I know I need a button to add the list to the listbox, but how do I save them, so theyll still be there?

Those were found by trial and error and there are a few more on the net.
For MS Word the file is "C:UsersusernameAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsRecentAutomaticDestinationsadecfb853d77462a.automaticDestinations-ms"
What I'm wondering is if anyone knows how to determine what filenames go with what program. Deciphering the files will be another issue for sure

What I would like it to do is return just the rows from the left hand side that contain a match to any one of the predifined strings. I'm a bit of a noob at this and finding that all my research that's led me to wanting to do things right for data integrity are making it a bit more complicated on the front end.
Presently I have a Form in which I have two DataGridViews that I'm populating, each with it's respective stored procedure.
What the form is for is for linking rows from the one DataGridView (I'll call it DGV1) to a different one in the other DataGridView (DGV2).
Now to facilitate the ease of doing this for the user I want to both have the dgvs fully populated so that if the user wants they can just slide on through and manually select the rows in each they want and then there'll be a button to select which I'm planning to then use another stored procedure to then insert this connection between these two items into the database.
Another thing to facilitate this is a search bar. I want them to be able to type in something and have the datagridviews both navigate to where their selection is as well as selecting it so that it's then ready to be bound to the selection in the other.
What I'm wanting to know, and having a hard time figuring out, is how do you get such a search function to work on DataGridViews that I have bound to these read only stored procedures? How do I search and select within the DataGridView? And then how would I go about using the selection from two different datagridviews and putting those as parameters in the stored procedure that I wanted to use to then record the relationship in the database?

am trying trying to write some code for a ComboBox that does the following:
1. Allow the user to enter text into the combo box to type entries contained in the list source.
2. Enable autocomplete to assist the user in selecting entries in the list source, both from dropped down state and non dropped down state.
3. Restrict the user from typing an entry that doesn't exist in the list source.
My requirements are:
1. The ComboBox must run some code after a selection has been made or the user has finished typing an entry (not after the focus has been moved to another control)
2. The code must only run once after the user has made a selection from the combobox or has finished typing an entry
The problem: To achieve the above functionality, I had to run code on numerous event's. Sureley there is a better way, here are the events and the reason for the code:

I want to set a certain column to true or false automatically based on what value another column has entered. I managed to get this working by myself using the 'SQL Pane' in VB and testing it by using execute sql but I don't know what to do now. I assumed that I could just save it and it would work from there but that's not the case, it dissapears from the SQL Pane if I close the project (even though it worked fine when I ran the project the first time), so where do I put it/what do I do with it in order to get this to work?

Hi, I'm working on a program that reads text entered into a textbox and creates a list of items by separating entries by commas. Everything is working fine, except, because I am using an array to store the items in the list, I have a limited number of entries. This is only a problem because, as it is written currently, each comma counts as an individual entry. Therefore, users can enter ",,," for example, and it would use up 3 places in the array.
I'm looking for a way to check to make sure there is text after the comma before adding an entry. I've attempted to use the .substring command to check the character after, which works until it gets to the last character. Because there is no character after that, it will give an error.

I was just thinking if there is any component which monitors sound output. My intention is to recognize a particular sound coming out from my soundcard. I know its an issue about the driver of my sound card but is there a way I can get atleast noise level coming out of my speakers and maybe draw a graph and detect the peak at when the sound is played?
