i am trying to make this program that asks for your name, age and a password the user already has and returns a id number that is generated randomly. my question is how would i match a word to a predetermined list of words then it would get deleted off that said list so it could not be reused.
I was playing with ASP.NET MVC 1.0 a couple of days ago. I started out with a single table DB named 'Contacts', with very simple structure e.g. Title, FullName, SurName, Email, Phone, Address etc.I'm using LINQ as my Model.In my main view I wanted to display a list of alphabets that have matching FullNames starting with that alphabet plus the count of FullNames. Someting similar as shown below:
A - (2)
D - (4)
J - (1)
and so on.One particular thing about the display is that i don't want to display those alphabets that have no names starting with them.I tried a couple of queries but didn't succeed.
I have an 'In' folder that users drop all different types of files into (.doc, .xls, .rtf, .pdf etc.).Each file that gets dropped into the 'In' folder should have a matching .pdf file (i.e. abc123.doc and abc123.pdf)I have a program which looks into this 'In' directory at regular intervals and moves filename.* to another directory. The folder the files get moved to depends on the first 2 characters of the filename (12-abc.doc might get copied to folder '12' etc).All the files placed in the 'In' folder should have both a native file and a matching .pdf i.e. (abc123.doc and abc123.pdf)In some cases the native file is missing. In some cases the .pdf is missing.There are 2 things that I want to do.
1.) I want to prevent files being moved from the 'In' folder if a .pdf does not exist (I think I can deal with this one ok).
I think perhaps a For Next Loop Array for filenames minus the file extension and if it already exists in the array then copy them (but what if someone has got a .doc and a .xls but no .pdf?!?!? I'm sure somebody could tell me a simple way of achieving this.
2.) This is the part I am struggling with. I need to look in existing folders that files have already been copied to and list:
a.) Native file without matching .pdf
b.) .pdf without matching native file
c.) .pdf with matching native file
I am to make a program that lets the user save certain data values with a delimiter(":") to a text file(done) Example of data entries [code]Then i am to load those values to a listbox , i was able to do that as well and i include the delimiter when i load the values.Now i am supposed to let the user enter any month/year value for date(mm/yyyy) such as 06/2010 and if any of the entries match the search string then either the program selects those values in the listbox or a popup msgbox is used to show the entries. How the result is displayed is a little irrelevant, but how do i search and atleast select the matching entries in the listbox ? and not just the first instance but all instances of the search string.

What I am trying to figure out is a way to copy a file and paste it in another location. So that there will be the original file in the user set location, and then a duplicate of that file in, say, the "Program Files" folder. I would also need some way to check if the file exists to, so that it doesn't keep creating a new file each time the program starts up.
to sum it up: I need to be able to copy a file to a predetermined location and check if the file exists, and if it doesn't, it will copy the file over to the location.

and it returns the count of my cells in the row, so I know it's getting the right row but how would I get the info from each of those cells and place them in a list?
I am trying to create a form to filter information from 3 different tables with 3 drop down lists.
Is there anyway i can select the information from 2 lists and ignore the 3rd?

I am trying to create a list that will add information each time someone submits the form. I keep getting the error:Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index..I know I am getting the values passed from the Class since I can output it to a message box. View 1 RepliesI'll start off with a brief explanation of my situation. I'm doing my A-Level coursework project at the moment and am having some difficulty trying to figure something out. My project is a VB.NET Program that connects to a Database to display/add/delete/update records. At the moment I am having trouble with one particular thing which must be solved before I can move on (and the deadline is fast approaching).
I have a combo box which contains a list of different item types (Which match up to the item types used in the database, but it is not filled from the database). When the user selects one of these options, the list box below must fill with all items of that type that are in the database.
Unfortunately I'm at home so I can't get access to my coding, but I can try to explain what I've tried. I've tried so many things after trawling though what seems like endless amounts of tutorials to find an answer.
One thing that is used in pretty much all of them is the SQL string to select the needed records;
"SELECT ItemName FROM Stock WHERE ItemType = Anime"
Now, this has been used many different ways. I think the way that I'm trying at the moment is to create a new data set that contains the records that are needed for the search. There is already a data set that contains the whole table that is needed for this particular form. I think my most recent attempt was trying to copy the relevant information from the original data set to the new one, but I can't get any coding that isn't incorrect.
My listview clears and updates every 2seconds. Is there an easy to refresh the list information without clearing first? Like taskmanager

I need to place various lines of text into textbox1 from a list of information.The list contains hash codes and user ID and various ofter pieces of information without spaces or punctuation. Most of the information I don't need. However, I do need the first 25-30 characters and last 25-30 characters from each text.
Lets say this is the text:
Simmon_unit32=sub4g36ff&product= shipment29664KL49Loc% 6679KM94
I need to place the above line of text into textbox1 (this I'm doing through cut and past, so not a problem). Then, click button1 and have everything before "&product=" display in textbox2 and everything after "Loc%" display in textbox3. The line of text will usually not be the same number of characters. There may be 10 characters before and after those words of 50 characters before and after those two words. So, how do I create a substring or loop (or something) that will read the line of text and display what I need in textbox1 and textbox2, regardless of the amount of characters in the line of text?
[edit]Unfortunately there are multiple & and % signs in the texts. In fact, there will most likely be an & sign somewhere before "&product=". However, "&product=" only shows up once. As far as the % sign goes. There will be 3 or 4 of them in the text. To make matters more difficult, "Loc%" also shows up multiple times in the text. But, I only need the information that displays after the very last % sign to appear in textbox3, if that helps.I'm using visual basic 2008, in a Windows forms Application.
Background - I'm trying to populate a drop down list with state information from a database. I'd like the full state name to be the option and the state abbreviation to be the value. Example:

I'm trying to make a program so I can open a text file, take the information in that file, and organize it in a list, but I can't figure out how to do it exactly.In visual basic, how would I change this:

into:
Joe Somebody
I want to be able to ignore "<NAME>" and "</NAME>" and output "Joe Somebody" into the organized list, but I don't want it to work only with Joe Somebody. I want it to work with other names too. I also want to be able to edit that information, and export it the same way as the text file.
Basically my program creates a text file based on whatever is contained in the 6 list boxes. What i need it to do is load the text it created back into the relevant list box. text file looks like...

I'm pretty new to visual basic .net (have been a hobby VB6 developer for a few years) but now i have moved on to vb.net and i must just say it, what a difference in the language!So im trying to make a program that connects to several websites and parses some information out and then add the information to a listview list. The listview have 2 columns: Site and Nuts. So i load a bunch with urls in the site columns (that isnt a problem) but the problem is to take 5 websites at the same time and connect to them and then write "OK" in the Nuts columns.

Im using visual basic 2010 and im building a program that will basically, you click on something in the list it will automatically open a .dat file pull the information that it needs, and then proceed to enter it into a box on the right. Well heres my issue i know how to do everything else but i cant seem to imitate this image, i need to know how i can make a list like this where the whole row is selectable, and the items/subitems are divided.
