I was recently working on a project involving data transfer(transferring of a text file) from my pc to another pc via the internet. I've already created a site but I don't know how to transfer the file.
View 4 RepliesI am looking for some advice on how to proceed with a little project I am doing envolving sending data to an external site. So the rough situation is I have data stored in variables in a VB program (and corrisponding excel sheet working as a storage place for variables after the project closes) and I need to some how get this data to a portal site and have it entered automatically :P. I current have a button on my VB program that opens to the specific site and the users navigate to the data entry portion of the site and enter the data manually but my eventual goal is to hopefully have this all automated through a single button on the form.

I figure there would be one program on the sending end and a separate on the receiving end. A server and client perhaps?
Anyway, I need to know how to send a file on the host machine in a simple method that is least likely to be blocked by anti-viruses and such. The fewer issues that result in a failed transfer, the better.
Also, note that my goal is to molulize this code (later) so it can be reused for multiple applications such as file sharing, gaming, etc.
I am sending data into VB through a serial port on my computer, from a microcontroller. The data enters VB in an ASCII form, but I need it as a number. I can use the Asc command to convert numbers 0-127 however after this it dosent work. I believe this is becaus the ascii character map only goes through 127. So how can I convert the rest of the data (128-256) to a numbers?

This is the code I tried but it aint working right, shows failure sending mail, unable to connect to remote server. I am using internet via bluetooth through my gprs enabled cellphone.
whenever I install my software on someones computer for the first time, it prompts them to install the .NET framework. When I install software from the internet on my computer, it does not require the .NET framework.
I know this is because the program was written in .NET, but otherwise what language would I write it in and with what software?

After a 6 year and continuing career in economics, I decided to dabble in code to assist my economic career. In this pursuit, I have developed some neat things, but I have a simple problem. I code an application, hit build, hit publish, receive a setup and manifest, then put it on my usb drive. Plug the usb drive into another computer. Drag the setup and manifest to the hard drive, hit the button, a graphic regarding Launching Application comes up, then immediately a window comes up stating:
Cannot Start Application.Cannot download the application. The application is missing required files. Contact application vendor for assistance.
The errors stem from the manifest file. It says downloading the file (file path) Hello.exe.manifest did not succeed. It then follows with 3 lines of filepaths for the Hello.exe.manifest.
I am running VB 2010 express. I made a slot machine game for my mother for her birthday one Computer A. I moved the published files to Computer B as described above to test before giving to my mother. The game isn't too important at this point because I tried to test whether the game itself was the problem or if it was my error in lack of knowledge of how to deploy. As such, I created a program called Hello. In Hello, there is simply a form1 and a button1. When clicked, button1 displays a messagebox with some text. Not a rocket science program.
My intention is simply this:Allow the Hello program to be put on another computer via a USB drive and then installed.The two computers are not networked and let's assume the second computer cannot connect to the internet. When I go to the wizard, I select the location I want to publish to. In this situation, my desktop.Next, I select CD-ROM/DVD-ROM instead of UNC path or website. I don't know what UNC path is. I presume CD-ROM/DVD-ROM would be similar to USB drive in that it is a removal data storage item.I chose that the application will NOT check for updates.Finally, I receive this:The application will be published to:

Where I find the files, put them on the USB drive and try to install on Computer B.Also, for more information, I can use those files on the originating computer and they do SUCCESSFULLY install and I can use the application. I have not figured out why it will not install on another computer.
I am trying to add functionality to an existing program that can send a message from a Windows XP and Windows 7 computer to a group of computers that are running XP and Windows 7. Previously I was doing this with Net Send but as we are no purchasing
Windows 7 machines when we need to replace old computers, that is no longer an option.
I would prefer to have the message appear as a popup on the receiving computers as this is for calling for assistance from a supervisor or the QC department and they will not have to send a response.
i have a audio program that will play some mp3 files from a folder. but the audio files together take up about 1 gb. it is possible to let my program download the files from the internet after it is installed on a computer. to a specific folder..?

i have a task to create a TCP Server (a program that is listening on its network card interfaces for incoming data stream).I have search on the internet and i found that i can use two methods : Socket or TCPListener class.I have created an example for Socket class, but i wondering how could i test it? i have encountered a problem, i want to access the data coming to the computer from the in-built bluetooth module of a computer on windows platform, this data has been sent by a remote bluetooth module say a by an autonomous device (just like a bluetooth mouse connecting to the computer). The MsgBox() at the end shows the response, which as I've added to my script, echos the result from the $user and $pass variables which are supposed to retrieve those details being written to the stream above, but they show up empty.

I am currently porting (well really totally re-writing) a project to run on WM6 devices. I need to initiate a GPRS data connection (or any internet data connection really, shouldn't matter if its GSM or CDMA) before I can get the data I need (actually sync. a database over the cell network - Sybase via Mobilink) because right now its basically saying I have no network connection when I make the call to sync the db.
If I open Internet Explorer on the device, it initiates the data connection, and I can then go back into my program and get the data no problem. This isn't an acceptable solution however.
How can I initiate the internet data connection?
I need to somehow send data from a website (On different computer from application) to my application. How would I go about this?

and get the internet address associated with it.

"Dromocast Client" is my visual basic application, and I checked to make sure it's not NULL. In fact I get made sure I'm getting some data on the VB side. On my Visual Basic side I have the following

When I send the data over it's garbage, meaning strTemp comes out as all these chinese characters, and my title bar on the visual basic program gets garbled with a bunch of chinese characters as well. My guess is my "SendMessage" is written wrong, or I'm doing something silly, but I have no idea what. I'm not a windows programmer so I'm kinda trying to figure this stuff out by googling.
