At the moment I'm developing an application (Similar to Swiftkit.net's) that will aid users when playing Runescape.My next major project on the program is to Make a highscores look-up. (If you dont know about the Runescape highscores, HERE)Now, i want to grab data from that webpage, and add it to a form on my application. The form in particular, will display a specified persons levels on that form under labels.First of all, i have NO IDEA on grabbing stuff from the web in VB. Second, i have searched far and wide for something similar, but everyone that has something similar is not very willing to part with their hard earned code.
I have a little problem whit passing delegates. I have a program that load some data from internet. When the loading starts i create new thread for this. What I want is, when the loading ends I want to call one procedure in my form. So when I initializing class I want to pass that procedure. But I have problems with implementation. I am currently porting (well really totally re-writing) a project to run on WM6 devices. I need to initiate a GPRS data connection (or any internet data connection really, shouldn't matter if its GSM or CDMA) before I can get the data I need (actually sync. a database over the cell network - Sybase via Mobilink) because right now its basically saying I have no network connection when I make the call to sync the db.
If I open Internet Explorer on the device, it initiates the data connection, and I can then go back into my program and get the data no problem. This isn't an acceptable solution however.
I am developing a winforms application that will have an offline mode, so that it can access the data if an internet connection (or more accurately, a connection to my WCF service) cannot be established. I have decided to utilize SQL Server Compact edition on the client side of the application & was wondering what the general consensus is on the "best" practice for making the client application (Sql Server Compact) subscribe to the master database (MSSQL 2008).
Management enters information into a web based administration panel that I developed and is stored in a MSSQL 2008 database.After adding / modifying information, they can click a release "datapack" button which will increment a "datapack" version number, which will later be used by the client application to determine if they are in sync or not. When the client application is started, it connects to the internet and determines if the version numbers are in sync. If not, it pulls the information from the server.
That third step is where I'm a bit lost I thought about simply developing a web service that will expose a dataset containing all of the data and just iterating through it doing inserts, but that seems terribly inefficient to me. The full database probably wouldn't amount to much more than 5 MB total, so that led me to think it would be great if when management clicks the release datapack button, it would store the database in a file that could simply be downloaded and would replace the embedded database. Again, I'm a little lost on how that would work. This is my first time working with an embedded database, most of my work has been web/win apps that have real-time access to the data.
I'm developing a management program for a driving school, where information about all students is stored and accessed.
The thing is, this school has got two branches, so I need some way for those two computers to share files with each other in order to keep a common database. I would like to use the same program in both computers, to keep simplycity to the maximum.
I know it's using TCP, but I haven't got the lesser clue of how i can achieve that. I've looked around, but I haven't found much of how to acchieve something like that. The files both computers would be sharing are text files.
About the IPs, I'm thinking of using NoIP or one of those to always know both IPs.
I am looking for some advice on how to proceed with a little project I am doing envolving sending data to an external site. So the rough situation is I have data stored in variables in a VB program (and corrisponding excel sheet working as a storage place for variables after the project closes) and I need to some how get this data to a portal site and have it entered automatically :P. I current have a button on my VB program that opens to the specific site and the users navigate to the data entry portion of the site and enter the data manually but my eventual goal is to hopefully have this all automated through a single button on the form.
I would like to develop a program (in VB2008) that can send files directly from one computer to another through the internet.
I figure there would be one program on the sending end and a separate on the receiving end. A server and client perhaps?
Anyway, I need to know how to send a file on the host machine in a simple method that is least likely to be blocked by anti-viruses and such. The fewer issues that result in a failed transfer, the better.
Also, note that my goal is to molulize this code (later) so it can be reused for multiple applications such as file sharing, gaming, etc.
I got a window form, and I want to send data to another computer or a server over internet after the submit button is clicked. we have our system running but our system needs to be modified because we did something wrong...we are doing an "Internet monitoring System" in our school library where the user can only access the internet 1hr a day, and he/she cannot use the internet within that day if he couldn't buy a time on a serve...every students should only have 20hrs time usage per semester...our problem is every day their 20hrs is being reduced in 1hr.. the rule is the time per semester which is 20hrs that is given to the students was reduced 1hr only if he uses the internet..but our system is reducing their 1hr every day.
I'm trying to make a program where when you click a button it will retrieve each value of certain things on a webpage. I.E; [URL] On that webpage it shows Clan,Kills,Etc. I want to make it to where a Label will Say "Kills:" And another label next to it will have the value of kills retrieved from that webpage, and each time the button is clicked the stats will update if they are changed..I think it's simple to do, but I don't know how..

I've recently been working on some VB.NET programs, grab the value of the color of a pixel on my screen(Out of my WIN32 Application).
I need this so I can make a little bot that automatically pushes buttons for a online game called "JamLegends"(http:jamlegends.com). Its kind of like Rock Band, and if I can grab the color, then I can simply used 'sendkeys' to press buttons to make the bot work.
Edit: This is for a project in school. We need to make something that will make a program that will make something easier to work with or use(In my case, JamLegends). I have nothing to work with, I've researched a bit but I found nothing that can grab pixel color values.
Is there a way i can read a text file without downloading say at [URL] and show that textfile data in a text box or label? Also, can i get it to download say ZIP files from the site and unpack it? Or can i only download and you have to manually unzip it? Im pretty sure ive seen an unzip function somewhere.

So I have a list of book branches in an array called _branches. I need to write a procedure that adds branch names to branchNameListBox.
