I'm having complications with imlementing a service that uses a timer to send emails. In my code, it stops in GetDocuments() after TisValid() validates the directory path. I tried using a addhandler and threading but neither worked.
View 3 RepliesI'm using Visual Studio 2010 and .NET3.5. I've created a WCF service application. I'm including two DLLs that contain the types I'm returning. The first method I wrote works both in WCF Test Client and also in a console application I created to test. When I move on to the next method that returns a generic list of a type. It works great in WCF Test Client, but when I update the service reference it acts as if the service is unavailable. All my objects say can't find reference, and I can no longer see it in the object browser. It's like it just disappears. I can still see it in the Service Reference folder. If I go back to the WCF app and comment out the contract and implementation of that one method it work again. I created a local class very similar to the class I'm using from the dll, and the it works. Is there something I'm missing here? Can someone point me in the right direction?

View 4 RepliesI'm having trouble getting my archive service working. The service counts files in a directory and sends a email. Pretty simple. However, it randomly stops working. I debugged the service and found nothing wrong. I also have it writing to the eventlog so that I can use it to determine where it fails It progresses through each function normally. I thought my program was failing at on point, because it was only posting "Email Notification Service is Running". However, I realized it wasn't posting to the eventlog source so I've been playing around with different ways to post the message to the eventlog. Am I missing something from my code below? I'm really scratching my head with this one.

View 1 RepliesI have a timer in vb.net and it's interval is 1000ms ,. i have placed in it's timer_tick event a code that will print screen the screen and save it to a database.The problem is when i click outside of the form, or loosing the focus of the mouse to the form containing that timer/printscreen, the timer stops. As a result the printscreen also stops.here are it's properties:

The file size of the attachment is 396KB, upon the recipient receiving the email outlook shows the file size as 543Kb. Strange thing is if I send an email with the same attachment using outlook the file size is 396Kb.I understand that file sizes can increase due to the attachment being base 64 encoded as opposed to just raw binary.What I am failing to see is why outlook send a file which is 396KB in size but in code when sending it, the same file is 543Kb.

Is the problem that I need to show "credentials" (i.e. user/pass)? If so, what would those credentials be? Can I use my yahoo email SMTP server with my login info to do it? And is this all I'd need to add to add the credentials?

We have a server with multiple services written in .Net 1.1 and 3.5 running on a Win 2003 server. Everything runs fine, but when we stop a certain service, an unrelated service stops. I have checked and neither has any dependencies. The service we stop is in 3.5, and the unrelated service that incorrectly stops is in 1.1. We get no error messages, nor event log errors, so we are baffled.Does anyone have an idea as to what may be causing this?
View 7 RepliesI've been trying to get a Timer to execute code every 50ms and it's worked okay, but for some reason after doing the code 8 times (i.e. for 400ms) it just stops. As in, won't execute the code any more times. Specifically, it's wired up to an animation (Picture) and a rectangle which moves around the screen (Box). why the timer would suddenly stop executing after doing so for a while? It's the same duration every time.

Visual Basic Express Edition 2008 Problem. I have a Combo Box containing Country Names "New York" & "New Zealand", when "New York" is selected it shows the time and date of New York in label1 on the form and the time is updated every second by the timer, but when I make another selection by selecting New Zealand in the combox dropdown list then New York's time updation is stopped in label 1 and only New Zealand's time is updated in label 2. Why the timer control stops functioning for the first selection after we make a second selection in the combo box. I want that time for both label 1 country as well as label 2 country updates simultaneously on the form. I'm writing a mail component for a VB.Net app, and need to handle mails differently that are "Sent on Behalf" of someone. Although the Outlook Object Model exposes "SentOnBehalfOfName", it doesn't expose the email address for that party. Supposedly it's in the "OtherHeaders" field of the SMTP header, but I don't see an easy way to get to those through the Mailitem object. Am I missing something simple?
View 2 RepliesI have written a VB.NET receivables application that takes an invoice number as a parameter from the EBS. I create a PDF of the invoice and use SMTP to generate an email to the vendor, attaching the PDF. I can attach other documents if my program can look them up. It works fine.
My client now is requesting to be able to attach other documents manually to the automatically-generated email. Is there any way to stop in the middle of the process to allow this? [code]...

This has had me stumped for the last week, but I think I got a little closer to atleast identifying the problem when I took it home. Ok, the code above doesn't work when I'm at work for some reason. The exception message is: "Unable to connect to the remote server. ". Seems odd because I am simply using the internet to connect to my smtp server to send an email. When I'm at home, this works just fine.
what is stopping it from going through when I'm at work? If I atleast know that, I may be able to tell our network guys what it is so they can allow it to get out.
