View 1 RepliesOk, so I'm at the point where I'd like to publish my app and see what problems may arise while it "runs" normally after an installation. I've never actually published an app before or deployed one.I have VB 2005 Pro and was assuming there was some kind of "upgraded" publishing feature over the Express edition, but they appear to be the same. When I publish, I am left with a folder that has these files:
[code]...
when I double click the setup file, it gives me the option to install, and I do. I can not select an install path or anything though. The application is running fine.What I'm curious about though is I have databound controls in the application with an Access DB file as a resource. Once I install the application, where do I go to manually edit the .mdb file? and where is it installing my App too? It also creates some text files which I can't seem to locate either.So what's the normal procedure for building a project, specifying output path etc, and providing the end-user a "nice looking" (read not default) setup/installation screen?
I want to create a button that opens a supplied word document in their standard word handler like office or openoffice. But how do you find the Location of the exe (Or its folder) and using it to open the Word Document.[code]...

When I develop my app I have my db in
"Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:db
emoteit.accdb;Persist Security Info=False;"
How could I handle that in a finished application that uses install program. I want my DB in the same directory as my app. How could i handle this in my app? so the path should be correct?
I have an application that allows the user to conduct database backups and restores. The users had been using Windows XP, with network security that allowed users to read the registry. For restores, the installation path to the SQL Server named instance was easily found by looking up the instance name in the registry using
restoreDir = My.Computer.Registry.GetValue("HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\" & m_DatabaseInstanceName & "\Setup", "SQLPath", Nothing).ToString
They have recently upgraded to Windows 7, and locked down the registry so that users can not read values from it. Is there a way (via code) to find the path to a named instance of SQL Server, so that the app can automatically place the database files (mdb & ldb) in the correct folder?
I have a ClickOnce app that has been working fine for a couple months, until a day or two back some internal politics borked the server. The result of this was that the path for ClickOnce during install changed just slightly at one intermediate level. It used to have /is/ in the path, and the is has changed to something else. I changed everything I could find, including recreating the whole target directory in IIS on the server. However, when I publish, though the link is correct, installation is failing. The log shows that, after checking and installing some prerequisites, the installation is attempting to go back to that /is/ path to find the app for installation.
Can anybody suggest where that invalid path is located? I have gone through every property I can find in Project|Properties, and they are correct. I have looked in App.config, and that is correct. Where else should I be looking?
I want to add me to the publisher so that its not "Publisher Unknown". Can anyone tell me how to do this.
View 1 RepliesI supply all the details in properties window in Visual Studio 2010. But after publish, when I double click the setup file, it doesnt display the Publisher Name and displays Unknown Publisher. How to insert the publisher name which displays with the setup?
View 1 RepliesI have a piece of software that downloads from my web site as a standalone vb.net application. It is a simple link on the web page that lets the user save or run the application. Where do I begin to not get the message "The publisher could not be verified.Are you sure you want to run this software?" I am not sure if this will happen differently in different browsers. I am using IE8. What technology do I use inside my application to make it a signed application, or this is even the right track?
View 2 RepliesWhen I install my application on my computer I get a warning that the publisher is not verified. How can I change that? or do I need to worry about that when I distribute my application? The application is written in Visual Studio 2008 with VB.NET
View 2 RepliesI made a program, how can I change the publisher's name? It always says: "Publisher: Microsoft". I looked for publisher's name in the Project Properties but didn't find anything useful.

View 1 RepliesI am creating a Simple Publisher Application in which I need to insert texts in different textbox from an array of strings .I have coded it like this .
Dim texts(40) As String 'Array of strings to be inserted
shpTextBox = appPub.ActiveDocument.Pages(pageIndex).Shapes.AddTextbox _
(Orientation:=PbTextOrientation.pbTextOrientationHorizontal, _[code]......
Now It only populates first text box with the first string in the array (For 0th index) and rest textboxes contains empty strings ,though texts array has values.
I have created a .exe that uses My.Computer.FileSystem and now receive an error "Open File - Security Warning" dialog starting:
"The publisher could not be verified."
The file is located on a Windows File Server under ADS on a mapped drive. It was created under VB2005 and the .exe was copied using Windows Explorer drag and drop to the mapped drive. If I select to Run the file I get a security error. Same problem happens with new Access MDBs stored on the same file server. I have backed off all the IE zone settings to no avail. ADS security properties look like I have permission to run OK.
Files (exe and mdb) run fine from the desktop. I'm guessing somehow the files are being flagged as coming from the Internet instead of from the LAN. MS KB suggestion indicates there is a file property that appears indicating Internet origin - that is not showing up. IE 7 Beta 2 is installed. This error is suspending project work!
Is it possible to create a setup installer that will auto install fonts when user install the applications?

View 3 RepliesI have just written an application in visual studio 2005, and would like to publish it for use on another computer. When I try to run the publisher, it fails and reports that it is missing an XML file that is located in the bin folder. I have checked the bin folder and the file is there. I am not sure what I am doing wrong? Has anyone else seen this type of error before?
Also, I should point out that while I was creating this app, I would some times copy the project to my desk top, and then change the name of the project folder. For example: myProgramV0 would be come myProgramV1. Then I would copy this back into where I normally keep my VB projects. I do not know if this had an effect on the program or not.
I want to proove the Publisher Name by creating a certificate file for an application which is made using visual basic 2010. How to create it?
View 5 RepliesI have developed application using VB 2008 and develop a MSI setup for installation. Now problem is on windows 7 it generate a warning message on installation of software that "The publisher is unknown", but the software install well on continue of this warning.When I run the software it did connect to Access database which is on installation directory, but it didn't allow to insert or update any data in the database. But when I run the software by right click on the EXE file "Run as a Administrator" then software works perfectly OK
View 1 RepliesI have a Access program and I'm using VBA code in the background to run Winunzip using shell command. View 8 RepliesCurrently my application shows "Publisher: Unknown" when being run from the internet or if requesting UAC permission.how I can change this. I've spent a few hours trying and don't want to have to pay Verisign or someone. I know you have to set a strong name up in the Signing section but I can't get this to work. Also, when I upload the application I currently just upload the .exe from the bin/release folder as I like it to be a portable application. Am hoping I can keep it this way for a publisher name to appear.
View 2 Repliesmy vb experience is fairly limited - I've only used it when supporting legacy applications or for small tasks so apologies if what I'm asking seems simple. I wrote a small vb install script which creates a new folder on a users desktop, copies over relevant files from the install folder to the users new folder and creates a shortcut on the users desktop.
This works great for giving stuff to QA to test. However, there's one dll included in the install folder which is also in the users GAC. The code looks in the GAC first for this dll and only looks in the install folder if none exists in the GAC.
What I want to do is include a line in my install script to copy this dll to the users GAC as well as copying it to the installation folder.Is there anyway to do this in VB? I did find the following on one of the MS sites for installing into the GAC gacutil /i a.dll
Is it possible to run this through VB or is there a cleaner way of doing this?
Problem drawing dotted path lines, with even dots along the path line.I want to draw a path line that can be any shape (square, round, outline etc), and along this path line I want even dots to appear.
I also want to be able to resize the shape (as in the example attached)This is very easy to do using "DrawPath" and defining points for the path and using a pen defined as dots.The problem I have is I want the dots to be evenly placed along the path, on any shape or size I draw.In the example I have created, I create a square with 4 points and draw a dotted path.There are 2 buttons that allows me to resize the square (larger or smaller) this helps show the problem more clearly.
The path starts at the top left corner and finishes back at the top left corner, the dots are evenly placed along the path, except the final dots at the end of the path. (Sometimes the dots are even and other times they are not even).The shapes I want to draw can be any size and any shape, but I have used a square in this example to show the problem I have. point me in the direction I need to go that allows me to draw the dots and give the impression that they are even all along the path, for all shapes and sizes.
In the pictures below if you change the size of the shape, one will have even looking dots, the other will not.
