Application - When Try To Run The Publisher, It Fails And Reports That It Is Missing An XML File

Feb 22, 2009

I have just written an application in visual studio 2005, and would like to publish it for use on another computer. When I try to run the publisher, it fails and reports that it is missing an XML file that is located in the bin folder. I have checked the bin folder and the file is there. I am not sure what I am doing wrong? Has anyone else seen this type of error before?

Also, I should point out that while I was creating this app, I would some times copy the project to my desk top, and then change the name of the project folder. For example: myProgramV0 would be come myProgramV1. Then I would copy this back into where I normally keep my VB projects. I do not know if this had an effect on the program or not.

Adding A Reports Application Or A Crystal Reports Application?

Dec 22, 2010

I'm using VS 2008 to develop a solution which will report on data mostly contained in SQL Express databases, across two servers. It will be used by up to about 10 XP clients. I am unfamiliar with the Reports Applications. Will I need to buy extra licenses to use a Crystal Reports application? Why are they both included in VS? What is the basic difference between them?

VS 2008 - Application Shows "Publisher: Unknown" When Being Run From The Internet?

Jan 31, 2011

Currently my application shows "Publisher: Unknown" when being run from the internet or if requesting UAC permission.how I can change this. I've spent a few hours trying and don't want to have to pay Verisign or someone. I know you have to set a strong name up in the Signing section but I can't get this to work. Also, when I upload the application I currently just upload the .exe from the bin/release folder as I like it to be a portable application. Am hoping I can keep it this way for a publisher name to appear.

2005 : Crystal Reports Application Or Windows Application To Generate Pdfs?

Apr 13, 2011

I currently have a simple crystal reports application which generates a crystal report and in the built in viewer provided by VS2005. There is a drop down where you can select options to change the criteria of the report. I wish to convert this app to a windows executable which will take all those select options and generates pdfs based on the crystal report. the executable will be triggered by windows task scheduler...or maybe command line app?

Obviously this will be somewhat of a re-write. What would be the best way to start this as? a crystal report application or a windows application.

IDE :: Debugging - Declarations Fails To Initialize After Application.Restart

Apr 14, 2009

In my code the application will restart using the Application.Restart statement from another form named frmDatabase.

The application seems to restart while debugging but yet the dataset, tables etc which is declared right below the class declaration for the startup form seems to fail initializing when the restart is done.

Compiling and running the application works like a charm and there is no error like this when running the executeable.

I also Inserted a breakpoint in the Form_Load event and the debugger seems to skip all the statements when the application is restarted all the way down to where the exception occurs.

Declarations:

Public Class frmMain
Public objConnection As New OleDbConnection(strConnectionString)
Public objDataSet As New DataSet
Public objCommand As New OleDbCommand
Public objDataAdapter As New OleDbDataAdapter(objCommand)

Missing Dll - Unable To Run The Application?

Jun 8, 2010

in one of my previous posts, I wondered why it is that my application runs well on my laptop, but not on the laptop on my desk...When I run the application on the laptop on my work, it works...it loads...but the graphic part won't work. He gives a red cross with an OverFlow Exception, which he doesn't give when debugging on my own laptop. I checked for the memory use of the system and it only needs approx 100Mb when it's running the complete graphical part.
I was wondering whether it's possible that my laptop on my work doesn't have the right dll files to do it all. I only use standard dll-files from Visual Basic, so no downloaded dll files.Do you have to add somewhere that he has to include the Drawing.dll? because all the rest works really fine.

Cannot Download - Application Missing Required Files

Sep 7, 2011

I recently had to format my PC, So I moved my project files and build files to my External Hard Drive, and continued to work on my project.. I started to receive emails saying that the application is saying "Cannot download the application. The application is missing required files. Contact application vendor for assistance." After clicked view details, I found this:

+ Downloading file:///C:/Users/myuser/Downloads/Browser.application
did not succeed.

The .application file is not in Downloads, its supposed to download it from my website. And if I were to open my project on a computer with it already installed, it won't check for updates - it opens really quick without the "Viewing Application Requirements" window.

Reading DLL.Config File Fails?

Oct 27, 2010

In out app we use dll that are loaded as addins. At startup we search the config files for these dlls in the application folder. The config files are named MyAddin.dll.config. On a win2003 R2 server running terminal services (in a domain with a SBS 2008) some of the users have problems reading the config files. I get an UnauthorizedAccessException when opening the config files like this:

Dim fs As New FileStream(strfile, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read)
reader = New System.Xml.XmlTextReader(fs)
fs.Close()

When I rename the files to MyAddin.config this works fine. Is the OS restricting the access to xxx.dll.config files?
