View 2 RepliesI'm using VS 2008 to develop a solution which will report on data mostly contained in SQL Express databases, across two servers. It will be used by up to about 10 XP clients. I am unfamiliar with the Reports Applications. Will I need to buy extra licenses to use a Crystal Reports application? Why are they both included in VS? What is the basic difference between them?
View 3 RepliesI currently have a simple crystal reports application which generates a crystal report and in the built in viewer provided by VS2005. There is a drop down where you can select options to change the criteria of the report. I wish to convert this app to a windows executable which will take all those select options and generates pdfs based on the crystal report. the executable will be triggered by windows task scheduler...or maybe command line app?
Obviously this will be somewhat of a re-write. What would be the best way to start this as? a crystal report application or a windows application.
tell me wat is the difference between crystal reports created in vb and in vb.net??how to create crystal reports in vb??

View 1 RepliesI have 2 or more reports and I want to be able to open them in a single report. Let's call it the master report. In this report I want to open several reports, that are independent one to another. I'm using this code to generate the raports:
Dim crDocument As New CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.ReportDocument
Dim cmd As New OleDb.OleDbCommand
Dim da As New OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter
Dim dt As New DataTable
[code]....
With this code I rewrite the datasource of the raport, and I can filter the query by the 'param' variable in the query. After setting the datasource of the report i can save the raport:
crDocument.ExportToDisk(CrystalDecisions.[Shared].ExportFormatType.RichText, "C: emp.rtf")
into rtf, pdf, etc. I want to append more of these reports into a master empty report. Or load these reports as subreports into a master empty report.
- I added report wizard to the solution. - Then according to instructions i added fields to report.- But how I can attach the report to the Windows form ?- In Visual Studio 2005, I used crystal report viewer to attach reports on the forms.

View 8 RepliesI'd like to be able to create, name and store individualized reports (school report cards, actually) with VB.Net and Crystal Reports using data from our SQL database.
It would be even better to be able to automatically generate individualized e-mails using e-mail addresses stored in the database, attaching the aforementioned PDF reports and sending them off.
I created several Reports in Visual studio. and now I would like to create a form with buttons that open the reports. I have been searching for the code to open a report but cannot find anything useful.
Do I have to add al the Report projects to my ReportForm project or...?
I want to know how i can add reports either crystal or microsoft to a folder called reports in my application and then for them to be displayed in my menu tool bar under reports and then for them to run once clicked. I know it can be done its just how it is done.

I have a project that uses a crystal report and I'm planning of deploying it.The problem is, is there a common setup for the components that was used in my project so I don't need it to manually register on the client pc?
View 2 RepliesI've been asigned to a new project. I have to mantain an application wich was made in Visual Studio 2003 (VB.NET, Framework 1.1) and Crystal Reports wich came included with the IDE. The application is absolutely what we call "legacy code" :).Just to make the test, today I've tried to convert the application in Visual Studio 2010. The converter is offering me download SAP Crystal Reports, with no cost and no registration. The question is: Does anybody has experience with this components?. Is feasible to migrate an application as described to VS 2010?
View 1 RepliesI have just written an application in visual studio 2005, and would like to publish it for use on another computer. When I try to run the publisher, it fails and reports that it is missing an XML file that is located in the bin folder. I have checked the bin folder and the file is there. I am not sure what I am doing wrong? Has anyone else seen this type of error before?
Also, I should point out that while I was creating this app, I would some times copy the project to my desk top, and then change the name of the project folder. For example: myProgramV0 would be come myProgramV1. Then I would copy this back into where I normally keep my VB projects. I do not know if this had an effect on the program or not.
