Set Default Value For A Unit Type Parameter?
Apr 12, 2011
I want to include an optional parameter in a function statement that is of the type Unit. For example:
Public Shared Function NewTable(Optional ByVal TableWidth As Unit) As Table
Optional parameters require a default value, but I cannot figure out how to set a default value for a Unit type.

I have written one application which communicate with one data logger unit (temperature monitoring unit) and download records after some interval. Unit continuously send current temperature which I have to show on screen and after each one hour I have to download log (all records saved inside unit at max 1024) from unit.
Now problem is after downloading log, application get hang or what we called working in background and resume after some time. If I pause debugger in visual studio 2008 it show control at application start (sub main) with message as "application will resume here after completing execution of current function". There is nothing in output window. So how can i trace is there any events got spool or what actually application doing in background.

Does anyone have a nice sample of a unit convertor handling multiple unit types that I can integrate in my application? I have found this one, but it is only handling one type of unit. For example I want to convert weight as well as volume from and to imperial units.

im using data bound item with my combobox and this error pop up.
Parameter @UserType has no default value.
when i set the value,it stated that
"The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship. Change the data in the field or fields that contain duplicate data, remove the index, or redefine the index to permit duplicate entries and try again."
should i edit my usertype column in my database or there have another solution?

I am working on a very simple application in Visual Basic 2008 Express.
The program has a Listview where I display the "DisplayName" field, the user clicks on a name and this should fill 3 text boxes. The code is:
strSQL = "SELECT FName, LName, DisplayName FROM tStaff WHERE DisplayName=@DisplayName;"
Dim conn As New OleDbConnection(strConnString)
[Code]....
This produces the error "Parameter @DisplayName" has no defaul value"
The value of the variable "strDisplayName" is correctly captured.

We have a legacy component that has been converted from VB6 to VB.Net.The VB component was called from an ASPX page using Request("param") to pass optional parameters to function calls. That means the value is null/nothing if the parameter is not present.The parameters were then added to an ADODB call of a store procedure using Parameters.Append.When used from VB6 missing, Request("param") values were coerced into empty strings when passed to the VB6 component. This meant that the ADODB call was satisfied (for required parameters).When the code was ported to VB.Net, the null Request("param") values are now passed as null values (VB nothing?) and Parameters.Append skips adding the value if it is nothing. This caused the stored procedure calls to break as a required param was missing.
If we change the component's function parameters to be optional and have paramname as string = "" defaults, will a null/nothing value be converted to an empty string, or is null/nothing treated differently to a parameter being simply missing?

I have a problem during defining a Sub routine in VB.Net. I am defining a sub routine which is as under
Private Sub ActivateControls(rdbutton as RadioButton, Optional txt as Textbox, Optional txt2 as Textbox)
End sub
When I call this sub routine It gives me the Error that Each Optional Parameter must specify a default value. So, Here I can't understand that what can be the default value of a textbox. What default value I can use here to remove this error.

I think this is a pretty basic question, but I just want to clarify. If I have a variable with a null value, and pass it as a parameter that is optional, will the parameter get the null value, or the default value?
dim str As String = "foo"
dim obj As Object
//call 1

I am trying to do an insert into a table called Policy. I keep getting an error that says parameter @Split has no default value. To try and resolve the problem, I set the default value of the split field (of type text) in the Policy table to "0" in Access 2007. I am passing in the value of a string "0" into the parameter before the insert statement executes.
Dim connection As OleDbConnection = PaulMeadeInsuranceDB.GetConnection
Dim insertcommand2 As New OleDbCommand(insertStatement2, connection)
connection.Open()

Dim dType As New System.Data.SqlDbType

How can I do this?

This is kind of two questions (one more specific than the other).If I have a method like this:[code]Can I qualify Foo against another type (for instance can I require that Foo be a String that also implements IInterface?).I'm imagining something vaguely similar to this:[code]Additionally, is there any way to qualify the Type parameter?For instance, can I require that the Type I take as a parameter is of a particular class tree?I should mention that I am using this in the context of a property of an attribute so the class declaration itself cannot be generic (this is purely focused on qualifying a method parameter rather than typing a class and its methods).

I'm trying to create a function to parse out all values in a multidimensional Array with all but one dimension given. The details are not relevant, but for this function I need to return an one-dimensional Array containing values of the same type the original multidimensional Array has.To pass any Array with any dimension to my function, I declared the type of this parameter as Array. However, how would I create a new Array of that specific type (e.g. Integer)?Currently I have the following code:
Function GetRow(ByVal arr As Array) As Array
Dim result As (...) 'This should be Integer() if arr contains Integers, etc.
Return result

Is it possible to have an optional parameter of the type list?Ex.
Private Function TestFunction(Optional ByRef MyList As List(Of Double))
The real problem is giving the list a default value. When dimming a new list, you can use the code below to give it a starting value:
Dim MyList As New List(Of Double)(New Double() {1, 2, 3, 4, 5})
But even after trying many variations of the above code, I cannot get it to work as an optional parameter.

I need type parameter overloading as such:[code..]
so that i can New Map(Of Human) and the compiler will automatically match it to Public Class Map(Of TKey, TValue) and if i new Map(Of String) the compiler will automatically match it to Public Class Map(Of TKey As IEquatable(Of TKey), TValue) (since String is an IEquatable(Of String))
Right now my solution is to give the class different names as such:[code...]

I have a base class with a static function that returns a typed dataset. I have several classes that inherit the base class with a non-static function that returns the same typed dataset. On these methods I get the 'Return type of parameter yadda
