Setting Read And Write Access To Folder From Deployment?
Nov 8, 2009
I am just trying to get to grips with the setup tool in visual studio and seem to be making progress but im falling over with access permissions. My projects includes an mdf table and when i install my project the folder and db file is always set to read only and the application cannot write to it.How can i change or set the permission when the application is installed?
I've looked for code on this, and it seems needlessly confusing to me. I've tried some code I found and it doesn't return the proper value (I can't find the link to it now). So, I'm attempting to avoid that which I do not understand by writing a function that creates then deletes a file:
Friend Function GetFolderAccess(ByVal sDirectory As String) As Boolean Try Dim fs As New FileStream(sDirectory & " estfile.test", FileMode.OpenOrCreate, FileAccess.ReadWrite) Dim s As New StreamWriter(fs)
[code]....
Through testing, this appears to work for both read and write access. I originally had a File.Exists before the File.Delete, but the function would sometimes return True when it should have returned False.
I am deploying my application on a 64 bit windows 7 system (setting the platform property to x86) , after the installation process the app needs to set its connection string in the config file; and this is where I am having issues, the app is not able to write to the config file if/when its located under the program files directory (no admin privileges??), the app works fine when installed on a public folder. Please let me know how to give admin or write access to my app when its installed to the default program files directory
All i am trying to do is read and write files to a shared folder on a network in visual basic (VS 2010). I can go to the folder through windows without a problem and without being prompted for a password. However when i try to do it through visual basic, it cant find the directory. Here is my small snippet of code that i (hope) is telling me that the program cannot connect to the folder. [code] Are there any known issues with VS 2010 that may cause this? Maybe something else in my code that could have an effect? This is in my form_load event though, so it is literally one of the first things that runs.
Im trying to write a loop that will read through a number of *.csv files in a folder and then stuff the data into SQL. The code works and will happily put the data i want for a named file into SQL no problems. So when i had that working i then tried to loop it so that it would do the same for all files in the folder until all files had been done, and not error out if there where no files etc.
Maybe im tired (well, i am) or not had enough coffee but i just cant get this to work, it should be simple - i know it is infact, but its making ME feel simple.i think i should have an integer count in there, but similar examples ive seen dont use one. Also when trying to open the path i get an error at runtime "the path is not of a legal form"
code: Public Sub ImportCUSTCSVs() Dim dt As New DataTable() Dim line As String = Nothing[code].
Is it possible to set a variable in my custom class for Private Read/Write access and Public Readonly access without creating Properties with Get and Set? In other words, from within my class I want full access and from my form I only want read access. Right now I declare my variable as either Private or Public to control Public read/write access. I tried googling my question a bit but I'm not sure what the correct terms even ar
I have a link on a VB.net aspx page that needs to open a folder in a subdirectory of a web site and provide read and write permissions so that files can be copied into and read from as well as deleted. ONLY from this folder.I have this funtionality working on a dev and demo PC but they are both on my domain. Clicking the link opens Windows Explorer and I can copy /cut & Paste, etc.The public/production PC is on the LAN, but not part of the domain. I know there are ways to allow folder read/write permissions on a public server like this but I am not too sure on the safest way to do this. The upside, the only users that need to have read/write/delete access are employees. Forms Authentication, ASP Membership directs non-employees to other pages within the site. Likewise, the membership directs employees to an admin section of the site.
Typical problem, but I've done everything I can possibly think of to get this to work. I set the NETWORK SERVICE and ASPNET accounts to FULL CONTROL on my PC. I'm using the built-in Cassini web server to test my application, with no luck. I even tried to make a folder outside of the APP_DATA folder, and is still says Access is Denied.
I have an email account. I need to write some code that looks for any new email message on it and in case there is, it saves the attachment in a particular destination.
So I have a database in Microsoft Access (its path is c:database.mdb). There are two tables. Table1 and Table2. I would like to read each row of Table1 to an array, and write a row to Table2.
I have looked all over google, but I couldn't find anything that worked.
I have a question regarding publishing vis ClickOnce. For the publish options, there is a Publishing Folder Location and there is a Installation Folder URL. clarify the difference between Publish and Install, and when it would be apropriate for the two to be different?
I am creating a file and then trying to read and write to it. I'm coming up with an UnauthorizedAccessException wa unhandled. My question is, How do I get around this properly or otherwise improperly to read and write to my text file?
Imports Scripting Imports System.IO Imports System.Security Imports System.Security.Permissions Public Class Form1 [Code] .....
I've been scrambling my brain to figure out how to access my FTP server thing to get a list of text files in a folder and to edit the contents of those files online.
I want to access (read/write) the user entered text for a document. The document text is housed inside a CONTENTEDITABLE DIV tag within a html document. The html document is loaded into the webbrowser object (webbrowser.navigate(path and filename)).When the html document (bulletin.htm) loads,An error is popped up such as ACCESS DENIED to toolbar.htc and menu.htc And the toolbar and menubar are missing or corrupted.I have tried to generate the code for the document using the code below.
Function ScriptEditorHeader() As String Dim sBuf As String = Nothing sBuf = "" sBuf = sBuf & "<html "
I am looking for sample code that will allow me to read, write and edit records to a local MS Access DB using VB9.For my project, the datagrid and other controls are not an option.I have looked everywhere and cannot find any code examples.I assume it should be straight forward, but with all the changes in VB9 its tough.
i've download the 101 Visual Basic and C# Code Samples from downloads/details.aspx?familyid=08E3D5F8-033D-420B-A3B1-3074505C03F3&displaylang=en i was going to learn "VB.NET - Data Access - Read and Write Images from a Database" from that 101. the program is written in 2003 the conversion of the problem to 2005 and 2008 failed.
I am using Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition. Some of the programs I am writing make extensive use of External files (saved games, data, item lists, etc.) I could use an easy way to get these files to ride allong during deployment (cd mostly). adding them to the resources works for some static pictures, but custom structures into lists of info to read and write from are beond that features abilities, same with the settings feature. I have found in other help referance to "MageUI.exe" so is downloading a .net SDK my solution or is there a better trick I can use?
I have recently decided to give .net another chance, but i have a few questions about it before i get really into it. RE: Files, I use random access files to store data as opposed to databases (namely i don't see the need for a database for storing so little information(records <200 max) knowing that it is an older system and less "cool" i don't care...) Will vs2010 express read, write to random access files? Would it be done kind of like vb6 (which is my current vb version)? I will be needing to print the text of rich text boxes, is vs2010 express capable of doing this?
I have setup in the registry editor in VS 2008 to create a key and string value.. I see the property for a condition. I want to have a setup screen that asks what location the client will be installed in and create registry value based on that..
on setup i have a dialog for 2 radio buttons..
button1 & button2 value 1 = Houston value 2 = New Orleans Select location. * New Orleans * Houston
During the installation stage of VS programs, via setup and deployement, the end user is given an option to install to local settings or for all users. Where is this information saved?
I have a icon for my application that I set in the project properties window there is a little drop down box to browse to the icon location. While debugging everything is good. Once I build the app and place it on a PC and manually start the app all is good. My app starts with windows and now every time the program goes to start I get an error that the icon cannot be found in the DocumentandSettingUSERNAME folder. So the question is do I have to place my app icon in this folder? In design I have the icon in the binDebug folder and that is were I point to in the Project properties page. I am using VS 2008 VB.net.
I have an app that gets installed into the Program Files folder (in its own folder of course). It has a small access mdb file to which I write some data. I'm able to read the data fine, but the app won't write to the db unless I run it as an administrator and always gives an error.
the first problem is getting my program to load rss feeds from other websites mostly here:http:[url..... im trying to load it using the webbrowser. i want the rss feed to load right onto the form. im positive that its possible. i have the imports system.net in my code already for xml documents.the second is i cant get my program to write into a file that is several folder deeper into the bin folder.[code]......
ive tried playing with the code moving around the folder names, making sure there capitals are correct, etc. but nothing works. it creates the file in the wrong spot.
I got this erro after deployment of vb.net project of hospital management-- Error3Could not write lines to file "obj\hospital management.vbproj.FileList.txt". Access to the path 'C:\BCA\Hospital management\hospital management\hospital management\obj\hospital management.vbproj.FileList.txt' is denied.hospital management
I would like to know how to create/add a folder when installing the application using the Setup and Deployment in VB.net.
I have tried [TARGETDIR][USERNAME], but the target folder name that gets created seems its adding the Domain nameUsername, and this is where it stops where it only created the folder with the Domain Name.
I (through a ton of help from everyone here at stack-o) have created a small WCF which is hosted as a Windows service using TCP..Last question for this little bugger; it's time for deployment. In my solution, there are 3 projects. One is the Windows service, another is the imported WCF, and finally a setup project I added for install.I can install/uninstall the service on my machine by going in the solution directory and finding "Setup.exe" or "Setup.msi". Executing either from explorer will install the service on my development box.Now there are a few directories associated with this solution. I'm betting that simply copying setup.exe or setup.msi to my target server and trying to run it will bomb out. How can I find out exactly which files/folder I will need to copy over for deployment?Or should I just copy the entire solution directory? That will be a little difficult for my coworkers as the setup routines are nested in directories 5 deep.
The 'DefaultLocation' for my application is set to '[ProgramFilesFolder]MyApp'. Now I would like the user to select what drive to install this application to. I know this is accomplished through the 'Installation Folder Selection' dialog, but I want the user to be able to select a drive only, not the entire path.
My question is how do I capture what drive the user selected from the 'Installation Folder Selection' dialog and use that drive letter to tack on to my 'DefaultLocation' variable?
