I have a folder with several textfiles. The only thing i need from the files is the last 10-15 lines from each file, printed into a new file. There is a sentence that is uniqe inside (but the same for all) at the line i want to start copying from.In other words i need to seach for a spesific word, copy everything from that line to the end of document, and print that to a new doc. Repeated for all files in the current folder.
I have an app that gets installed into the Program Files folder (in its own folder of course). It has a small access mdb file to which I write some data. I'm able to read the data fine, but the app won't write to the db unless I run it as an administrator and always gives an error.
I am deploying sql express as a prerequisite. I have created a custom prerquisite using bootstrap manifest generator. The problem I have is replacing the template.ini file which exists in the sqlexpr32.exe cab file. Winrar and winzip allow me to open the sqlexpr32.exe but will not allow me to edit, add or replace the template.ini.I also cannot find the path where the sqlexpr32.exe extracts to as I want to use that path for the settings file eg "template.ini".
I have written a simple script to get a bunch of lines from a text file (they will be filenames eventually) which are split by new lines and puts each one into an array..
Dim ary() As String Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click If My.Computer.FileSystem.FileExists("C:MenuFiles.txt") Then
....
The only thing I can do for now is either use the substring function to remove the first character from all array values after 0 but I don't like that because it's messy and what if the split "works" as I want it to one one of the lines and knocks of the first character when I don't want it to.
I want to write the richtextbox1.text to a richtextbox but I want to put it in 3 lines, how do I code it without leaving a long empty space before it moves to the next line?Like a paragraph instead of 1 long line I am working with VB 2010 express edition

I am deploying my application on a 64 bit windows 7 system (setting the platform property to x86) , after the installation process the app needs to set its connection string in the config file; and this is where I am having issues, the app is not able to write to the config file if/when its located under the program files directory (no admin privileges??), the app works fine when installed on a public folder. Please let me know how to give admin or write access to my app when its installed to the default program files directory

I have a text file containing lines of data (File 1). I need to delete all the lines in another text file (File 2), which are found in file 1.So I could read file 2 line by line. And then once the line has been read, read file 1 line by line to search for a match. But that's going to be painfully slow.Or I could read file 2 into memory. And then read file 1 line by line and REPLACE the lines in file 2 with nothing, therefore deleting them. File 2 could be 100 mb, so I'm not sure about reading it all into memory.
I have a trouble making this code work. When executed, it just creates a correct (with the correct name) file with the extension .txt but the the actual text inside .

Public mytext As String
...
The strange thing is that while debugging, h, t string variables have the correct values, but somehow mystream.write(t) doesnt work (it doesent write anything to my h.txt text file...

I've just completed my first VB.Net program and I want to publish it as a stand-alone program. When I use the "Publish" function from the Project menu, it creates an installation program that is required to complete before I can use the program freely. Is it possible to just make a program that will run without needing to "install" it?
I have a relatively simple application that takes in some variables and exports it into a Excel spreadsheet. The Excel sheet is included in the project and copy to output is set to always. The sheet is referenced in code by
Dim strPath As String = System.Environment.CurrentDirectory & "Quote Template.xls"
When I use one-click publishing though, the Excel workbook doesn't copy to application folder and as a result installed application doesn't work.

I'm brand new to this forum. i have a question. i wrote some software a while back and now have a few new features I need to implement. this software currently makes use of "application settings" to store all of it's settings. Which works just fine.
I have a client that has about 40 users. He wants to be able to share his settings (that he set up in his copy of the software) with all of users. Preferably by distributing a copy of a config file that they would be able to import into there software.
