ASP.NET: Simple Event Handling Not Working?
Sep 13, 2009I have an object Order with a simple event, Public Event ErrorOccurred(ByVal msg As String)that I raise in the constructor like so when an order cannot be found (along w/setting a boolean error flag:
RaiseEvent ErrorOccurred("This order does not exist in the database.")
[Error] = True
I have a webform subscribed to the order's ErrorOccurred event:
Public WithEvents o As New Order
and I have an error handler method on the form:
Private Sub OnErrorOccurred(ByVal msg As String) Handles o.ErrorOccurred

When a textbox is changed, it autoposts back to the page and employs the following logic:

When there is an error (when the Else logic is run), everything performs as expected except the event does not fire. However, since the Error flag is set to true, it means the event MUST have fired, since that line executes AFTER the RaiseEvent line. I've tried everything I can think of, but I cannot figure out what could be wrong. I have events strewn everywhere in my project and they all work well using virtually the same structure.
DB/Reporting :: Simple Query Not Working?
May 6, 2012I'm using vb.net express with access 2010.Everything is working fine except for a simple query:SQL: SELECT * FROM Customers WHERE Name Like 'Ale*'Which returns all the names starting with Ale. Now in my .NET code I wrote this:cmd = New OleDbCommand("SELECT * FROM Customers WHERE Name Like " & Chr(39) & Name.Text & Chr(39), connection)Now when I start the app and in my textbox "name" I write Ale* I have the following expression:SQL: SELECT * FROM Customers WHERE Name Like 'Ale*'But when it executes from .NET (dr = cmd.ExecuteReader) it doesn't find ANYTHING.

Jul 30, 2009I have a simple poker game that deals out 9 cards into pictureboxes and shows another 3 pictureboxes that hold cards for the dealer. The code itself does what I want it to...even though I'm at a dead end with writing the code further to evaluate the poker hands. I would simply like to add a few labels and a combobox to my form, but everytime I add something, or try to add it I get cast error?

Compare multiple strings of text in a specific order based off of file name to constants i have set for that named file Then continue to ChildFolder2 ( Constant for ChildFolder2 says open file 16 ) > File 16 Compare multiple strings of text in a specific order based off of file name to constants i have set for that named file If there is any constants not read in one of the files after all have been checked, return msgbox with a notification and write .txt log with child folder and file names to specified directory?

Sep 27, 2011I want to distribute a fairly simple program developed on Visual Studio 2008. I have tried to use the publish features in the IDE. It creates a folder with various information and stores it on my fileserver.When I try to install the program on another computer I get a lengthy message about the need to install Powerpack 9. 0.0.0 So I go back to my dev computer and edit the publish information. On prerequisites I do not find Powerpack 9 but Powerpack 3. I put that in and redo the publishing. The installation now install that package but then it says it requires powerpack 9.0.0.0 and ends?

Simple WMP Player In Program?
Aug 13, 2011I said in a thread this week that I would set out to construct a program using the WMP component and this time, unlike in my last one, it is set up to allow any folder to be chosen. It's safe, even if the user chooses a folder with no .mp3 files in it, but it's goal is to look through all folders/subfolders, find the .mp3 files, get the path and the meta information about it, then show it in a listview.
The user has a few options such as playing the first song when a list is loaded, setting it to shuffle, etc., and all settings are saved automatically. Also, when they choose a folder to use to get their music, the next time around it remembers this also (although this latter one is done by saving the path to a text file so that you can, optionally, edit that before you send it out -- without having to change the code to do it).
I have it looking at events so that no matter what they change (click for the next song, change the volume, change one of the checkboxes, etc.), it will re-focus the listview so that the song presently playing is highlighted.[code]...

I have 26 images to display and need to know how to setup a loop to go through each image? It seems simple but I cannot figure out how to get to the third image, it only goes to the second image and stops. Draw Simple Graphics In Program?
Oct 11, 2009I'm a unviversity student and for an assignment we have to make a simple project where the user specifies a shape and a color, and then the shape is drawn in some kind of space. So like they choose circle, green, and in this blank space on the form a green circle appears, pretty simple. Anyways we have some kind of msdn alliance thing where we can download Visual Studio for academic purposes, so I downloaded Visual Studio 2008. I spent about an hour going through the tool box trying to figure out what could possibly allow me to draw stuff in it, and I'm really not sure what it could be. On some online tutorials it said something about a function on picture boxes like picturebox.Circle(100,100), 100, vbgreen or something similar, and when I tried making a picturebox and writing this code nothing worked. My friend told me to use a 'canvas' but neither of use know how to actually find such a control (its not in the toolbox).[urls]....

May 4, 2009I'm trying to make a per-user shell for a Vista box to simplify use of a particular system for my users. I have no problem making a program that I want to use and I am familiar with the process of editin the registry to make my program the users shell but I've run into a snag.
Whenever a user with the custom shell logs on, there is a delay just after they enter their password where the system will sit at "Preparing Desktop" for about 30 seconds. I know for a fact that the user desktop is already made and this shouldn't be taking that long.
I've poked around on the web and see various places saying that winlogon is waiting for the shell to flag a "shell ready" flag of some sort but I am unfamiliar with any such flag.
Anyone know of such a fix for the long login time or anything about a shell ready flag?

Oct 12, 2009I have written a small GUI based vb.net program that speaks to embedded devices via the com port. The GUI code contains a class which all communication to the embedded device is handled through (com port device, communication protocol, parsing info, holding device related info after each read).That class is called EDComms.
I wanted to add a thread so that the EDComms object could run in the background and report back as it downloads logs files and such (It can take a while to get log files from the device sometimes).So. Should I have EDComms inherit from backgroundworker thread? Or should I have a background worker thread as a member of EDComms?Right now I am going with the second choice. The only thing I have to do now is write a func for registering two delegates from the GUI for notifying task progress, and notifying task complete.Or is there a better choice than these two I have presented Perhaps have the thread as a member of the GUI?

And really, in practice, my printing feature works. My problem is that each line is printed on a separate page of paper and I can't find a way to just like, print a page.
It doesn't have to be fancy. I know that I won't need word wrap, nor will anyone ever print more than one page. Here's my ginked & modified code thus far:
