I have a ListView bound to an ObservableCollection of CustomerContacts.It works great so far, but being new to this, I'm not sure how to do the next part.Each customer contact has several contact types, which I want to display under their name.
So inside of CustomerContacts I have another ObservableCollection of ContactTypes.

I have bound TextBoxes. When I edit anything, I have to move to the next or previous record before calling the Update Method for that record to be updated. With my DGV, I use

I am missing something simple. I know how to bind asp.net datagrids and webforms, but this is my first time trying to bind to an object list of T in a windows form. (I am use to using datasets with datatables and im trying to get away from doing that).I have a simple object list that gets populated on the form load. However if I click a button to add a dummy record the datagridview does not display the new record added. The bindingNavigator (if clicked nextrecord) and "debug stops" all show that the new record I just added to the object list is there.
Even adding the datasource object in the watch list shows the new records are there. They are just not displaying.
I cannot seem to figure out as to why the new record is not being displayed in the datagridview when I can see the record got clearly added to the datasource.

I need the first place, because the BindingContextChanged event is not fired until some time after InitializeComponent.The second place is needed if the binding field is programatically changed.Am I handling the correct events here, or is there a cleaner way to do it?
Note: My GetValueType method uses the CurrencyManager.GetItemProperties....etc, to retrieve the type.

View 7 RepliesI am attempting to deserialize a simple JSON array to .NET objects using the JSON.NET library in visual basic.
For the life of me, I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong here. My JSON string deserializes into appropriate objects (9 in total), but none of the properties are populated.

When using JSON.NET you have to have constructor methods (i.e. Sub New) in order for the properties to get set during the Deserialization call.
i know how to declare a simple array and intialises its values, but i dont know how to get its results out of it. let me explain what i want.i've basically made like a Quiz, so the array(s) needs to hold 20 questions and 20 anwers. and i ve put these separately in each array, i.e. i have 2 arrays one with questions and the other with answers.when the user of my program presses ' get a Quiz Question', they retrive a question. Then the user types in an answer and using the submit button sends the answer for it to be verifed. how do u make sure that the question has a coressponding answer to it. as ive sed i have 2 separate arrays, i dont know how tell vb that when a particular question appears that it has a corresponding answer. If it matches a positive message appears, i.e.good otherwise wrong will appear.Also i need to randomize the way the questions appear in the quiz so they dont follow the same order when they are seen for the second time?
View 5 RepliesI'm using Real Studio 2011r3.It's just a simple game that's a small maze from a bird's eye view and you've got to dodge enemies and what not.But I've been told to make a map array like this: [code] I've got level1map(13,13) as an integer, and the numbers in the brackets are supposed to be ypos, xpos.Say I make level1map(5,7) as = 1, it'll make both the 5,7 and the 7,5 so that you can't walk into them.. even if 7,5 is still = 0.I could have just left something out somewhere, but I've been trying to work this out for days..Oh, and with the 7,5 will let me walk there if I walk from the left or right.. but not from the top or bottom.

it is a very simplyfied verson of what I want to do.I want to change the value of ma variables with my array referencing them with an index as if my variables were pointers of integer in c++ for example so that normally after the example, both variable should hold the number 3 instead of the number -1?
I coded anything but I remember when using VB6 or Pascal/Delphi we used to define records/ structures with fixed length fields, then write those structures to a file knowing that they would always be the same length. You could then open a particular record within the file or simply find out how many records existed by reading the file length.From what I understand, it seems that such methods are depreciated in VB.NET and such structures are written as a stream.Does it now mean that we can define things like variable length strings and not need to worry about buffers or boundaries?Is it possible to read through such files and pick out individual records? Are there methods of determining how many records that exist in a file? What I'm looking to do is simply store multiple records of a structure in a file then retrieve them into an array so I can manipulate their order by sorting the array and search within the array. This is only a learning project so it is unlikely that the resultant array is going to be large, although if this is not generaly a good method of doing this then it might be interesting to fidn out what is. So far, I have read that they way to write a structure to a file is to "serialises" it and then write the bytes - is this correct?[code]
View 5 RepliesI have a program that will compare an array of grocery list items glist and an array of coupon item clist.When I compare the two and if there is a match somewhere in the array I want to have a picturebox visible.When there is no match, I want the picture box not to be visible. [code] The code seems to work great until I come to the else statement.When the code finds a match it displays the picture box and the msgbox without error, but as soon as the message box is cleared, even though i've input it as an ELSE statement, the picturebox goes false again.Does anyone have any idea of how I can "hold" the picturebox to stay visible while the match between the arrays exists?

At the moment it reads in what I have in a text file, splits it up based on where commas are placed and puts the split data into an array, i.e. if the text file is a,b,c it will split up the 3 characters and put them into an array.
What I want to know is, is it possible to write each item from the array into a new TextBox - in the same way that It adds 1 to the 'i' variable each time, except with each new item the TextBox it uses goes up by one, i.e. 'a' in TextBox1, then 'b' in Textbox2

I have an app that I am developing to keep track of my members' names and phone #'s. I have all current names and numbers in a csv file and they are read into a structured array. The app can add, delete, and modify members. I have everything coded except the 'Modify' menu item. The list box is populated with only names at run time, I would like to have both the name and phone number displayed in the two text boxes I have on the form when a name is selected from the list box. I can get the name to display in the text box I have for names, but since the phone number is not in the list box I am wondering how I can get it into the appropriate phone text box. I used txtName.Text = lstMemberList.SelectedItem to get the name displayed but since the phone number is not in the lstMemberList list box I cannot figure out how to get it into the txtPhone text box.

I'm loading a file into an ArrayList, then looping through the ArrayList and each time adding a DataRow to a Datatable, then using the Datatable as the DataSource for a GridView. My problem though is that the file has one field at the end that I don't want to display. I'm not sure though how to not to add it as a DataRow or what to do so that it won't be displayed. How do I remove an item from an array at a specified index? This code copy's the index and then adds the indexes until it gets to the one you want to remove, skip it, and try to continue.
