Socket.Receive Method - Increasing The Length Of Variable

Nov 28, 2009

While using the Socket.Receive method to receive messages through network, you should define a variable as the buffer and you have to specify the length like this: Code: Dim _ReadBuffer As Byte() = New Byte(LENGTH) {} My question is: What is the bad thing about increasing the length of this variable even if the received messages are sometimes shorter? (i.e. if some body let it 10000).

ScrollToTop And AJAX - Increasing The Length Of The Timeout?

Sep 10, 2010

I'm attempting to have my page automatically scroll to the top when there is an error message to present to the user. Following a tip I found searching, I've enclosed the Javascript scrollTo function in a setTimeout function to avoid a conflict with AJAX remembering the scroll position. Here is the relevant [code]....

This is working fine for me locally, but when I move the code up to our test server, it does not seem to take effect.I have tried increasing the length of the timeout, but no dice.

Socket Async Send / Receive

Jan 5, 2012

I coded a small tcp server/client software implementing the async methods of the socket object. In order to keep track and control of the transfered data on both sides, I decided to wrap the bytes to be transfered into small 65 000 bytes packets, sent one after each other, in varying order. In most cases, it works perfectly, and it is impressively fast. However, when I want to transfer larger data than my usual requests, say like a dozen megabytes, crippling problems start to appear, out of shit.Effectively, it seems that somehow when executed without pauses, the server sends the packets too fast, or that the client receives it too slowly. However, if I put the SendAsync method's thread to sleep for like 100ms before sendingthe next packet, everything arrives without problem on the client.[code]

Socket.Receive Is Dropping The Last Byte Of Every Packet

Nov 11, 2010

I am having trouble with a socket client application written in vb.net using Visual Studio 2005. The client connects to a C language socket server that is running on OpenVMS. The problem that I have is that when the server sends a packet, the client does not receive the last byte (of every packet!). I can dump the packets on the network and the data is all there. My current solution is to keep my socket messages short (247 bytes) and send one extra byte past the end of my data.

I would like to include more information in my messages and I cannot find a way to make this work. If I knew 100% how long the packets will be on the network, I could work around this by including an extra byte in just the right places. However, I don't want to make any assumptions about the length of the packets.

Here is a sample of my client receive code:

Private Sub ReceiveMsg()
Dim nTotalBytes As Integer
Dim nNumBytes As Integer

VS 2010 Handle Receive Data On A Socket?

Sep 3, 2010

I've looked through a lot of snippets online and I see a lot of things similar to

Dim bytes(tcpClient.ReceiveBufferSize) As Byte
networkStream.Read(bytes, 0, CInt(tcpClient.ReceiveBufferSize))

but what I am unsure of when to call such a thing? How do I know when there is data to receive...in visual basic 6 with winsock, there was a specific routine which was called upon data arrival, but I see nothing of the sort for vbNet.

Communications :: Socket Behaviour - Created A Client That Can Send And Receive Data Via TCP Sockets

Aug 26, 2010

I have created a Client that can send and receive data via TCP sockets. The objects stored on the serverside are the *exact* same object used for the client. They use the same send and receive protocols.

Now, when i send a string from the server to the client , it does precisely what it should do. However when I send a string to the server.... I do receive the string as an equal length of NULL characters. I run the server and client locally.

Basicly what can influence the behaviour between two completely identical objects performing the exact same task? I wonder if there is some socketflag issue if the TCPlistener.accept function returns a completely different setup then the one I R used to.

(if it is of any interest, the send protocol is asynchronious)

How To Insert AT Command Method Inside My Program To Receive Incoming Sms

May i know how to insert a AT command method inside my program to receive incoming sms?

My program is in visual basic windows form 2005.

Here is how my program goes.

After i click connect button in my application, the gsm modem will automatically read the incoming sms and display in the textbox on the program.

I already have the list of AT commands to be used, they are :

1. AT
2.AT+CMGF=1
3.AT+CMGL="ALL"

I also would like to know how to declare these commands as string inside the program.

Here is my program so far:

CODE;

This code is for the user to click on connect button which will connect to the serial port. So after connecting the modem will then auto read and display new incoming sms.

Socket Return Breaking String Variable?

Feb 20, 2012

When trying to register a new user on the server, the server will post back messages such as "OK" and "usernameTaken". Upon comparing this returned string with another string (to perform an action based on the returned value), the compare isn't working.

Dim backupX As New CBackup
backupX.startSocket("127.0.0.1", 8888)
Dim str1 As String = backupX.registerUser("user1", "testpass")
Dim str2 As String = "usernameTaken"

[code]....

Looks to be like the socket code is working just fine.. each Function returns the corresponding Functions' Return value (registerUser -> SocketSendAndReceiveMSG -> sendAndReceiveMSG -> receiveMSG).

Marshal Variable Length Array?

Jun 8, 2010

I'm trying to call the GetInterfaceInfo Windows API - it accepts a structure as one of its parameters and this structure has a member that is an array. The API populates the contents of the array when it is called and there can be any number of items in the array. How can I define such an array in my structure?

If I just use a normal .NET array like so then the program just crashes (no exception thrown)

<StructLayoutAttribute(LayoutKind.Sequential)> _
Public Structure IP_INTERFACE_INFO
Public NumAdapters As Integer

[Code]...

and this works fine, but the problem is I have to define the SizeConst attribute as you can see to something large (64 in this example) so that the API doesnt fail because the array wasnt big enough. Firstly this is a waste of memory as in most cases the number of items the API sticks in the array will be less than 10, but secondly if there was ever a case where the API wanted to put more than 64 items in then it would fail.

Using ReDim to set the length of the array at runtime seems to have no effect, and that SizeConst attribute has to be set to a constant value so there's no way I can dynamically set it.

VS 2005 - Length Of Array Is Integer Variable

Apr 26, 2009

I have a problem when debugging a code. On top of class I declare an array, and the length of array is an integer variable which is applied value below declaration of array.

E.g. class declaration
Dim array1 (2, integer) as string
Public Sub
integer = 5
End Sub

So basically, array is created with integer being 0 or whatever, because it is declared before integer was assigned a value. But the problem is, I need it to be declared at class variable so I can use array in different subs.
