Sql Database Table Will Not Show Data That Wish To Insert Into It With VB 2008 Express?

Jul 27, 2011

I'm quite new into the programming game, I've been working on this program for a few weeks now, and its coming along, but the method I searched for entering new rows of data into my table doesn't seem to update my tables after I try entering data. I have a feeling it may be something very simple that i am over looking.

Private Sub Button4_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs)
Handles Button4.Click
Dim conn As New SqlConnection("my datasource")

Insert A New Row Of Data Into Table In An Access2010 Database?

Oct 20, 2011

I am trying to insert a new row of data into table in an Access2010 database. There are 5 fields in the table called Users. ID, Username, Password, Manager_Access and Admin_Access. These fields contain data types ID(autonumber this is the primary key), Username(text string),Password(text string) and Manager_Access and Admin_Access are true/false boolean. I am using a comboBox, a textBox and two checkBoxes as the source of the new row data.I have used the Dataset Designer to raise an INSERT Query on the Users table called InsertNewUserRecord. The SQL statements look like this.

INSERT INTO Users[code]....

I have set the ExecuteMode in the query properties to Scalar. The code then looks like this

Dim Username As String = ComboBoxUsername.Text

Dim PW As String = TextBoxPassword.Text()

Dim MR As Boolean = CheckBox1.Checked[code].....

I am getting error messages telling me "Syntax error in INSERT INTO statement. If I try a query with just the Username and Password which are both text then it works fine.If I try a query with just one of the Boolean fields it works fine.If I try both Boolean fields or the text fields and one Boolean field then I get errors.

Insert Changed Data From One DataTable Into A Database Table In A Different DataSet

Oct 26, 2011

I want to track changes in an application. So I've made a copy of the main table in that application, and am accessing both tables in the application using two separate datasets.

My plan was to use the HasChanges method of the main DataSet to get changed rows and then insert those into the copy table. When I run the code I get an error:

A first chance exception of type 'System.InvalidCastException' occurred in MyApp.exe

Unable to cast object of type 'MainDataTable' to type 'MainAuditDataTable'.

Here's the code:

If Me.DataSet3.HasChanges Then
' 'look for each row that has changes, not new rows
' 'insert that row into the auditing table

Datagridview Does Not Show Data At Runtime In VB Express 2008 In Windows 7

Dec 11, 2009

I'm using Visual Basic Express 2008 in Windows 7(64-Bit). I've added a datasource to my project and dragged a table from Data Sources onto my form. It automatically created a DataViewGrid and placed this statement in my form load event:

Me.BillsTableAdapter.Fill(Me.DoBills_2009DataSet.Bills)

The DataGridView shows all the correct fields/columns. The .DataSource property for the DataGridView is set to the automatically created BillsBindingSource. When I preview the BillsTableAdapter, the data appears. But data does not appear when I run the app. The datagridview is empty. When I build the app and run the executable, I get a Microsoft .NET Framework error message that says: "Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the applicaiton will close immediately. The 'Microsoft .ACE.OELDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine." If I click "Continue" I get my form with an empty DataGridView. What am I missing to get the data to display in the grid at run time? Oh, and I've also tried using the DataGridView in C# and I get the same problem.

INSERT Or Update In SQL Server 2008 R2 Express In VB 2010 Express

Jan 21, 2011

I am trying to re write a VB6 program using MS Access, many years ago, using VB 2010 express and SQL server 2008 R2 Express. I have a database with several tables, which I created using the designer. I am able to connect to the database and select data and display it in textboxes etc in vb code. What I have not been able to in code is to INSERT rows DELETE rows or UPDATE any data in the tables. I can do any of these operations using the Query Designer, but I want to do it in code. I can post some code if necessiary, but I thought it might just be some property that I had not set in the designer.

VS 2008 Getting Database Data To Show In Textboxes

Alright it's been awhile since I messed with this project, so here goes. It's an appointment scheduler and everything works except two things: I can't edit existing appointments and it only records the current time, not the timeslot I click on when I add a new appointment. If I try to edit an existing appointment it doesn't get the row data, just shows me blank text boxes. I assume I have to have those text boxes read the info from the database, but I don't know how to do that. This is how it looks:
