Startup Next Instance - Calling Sub?

Aug 8, 2009

Basically I have a single instance project, when a user right clicks an image it trys to host it. I use this code.

Code:
Private Sub MyApplication_StartupNextInstance(ByVal sender As Object, _
ByVal e As StartupNextInstanceEventArgs) _
Handles Me.StartupNextInstance
e.BringToForeground = True
MainForm.Visible = True
[Code] .....

The msgbox is only there to show me I caught the arg. My question is how can I use this info in my application? Every google link is red. I need to add the DIR varible to txtFilePath.Text and then call my sub Call UploadPicture()

Name Of Startup Form Instance?

Aug 2, 2010

this might be a really dumb question, but if someone could enlighten me I'm writing a Winforms application in VS2008 vb.net.The application starts with a main form. I've got a status bar at the bottom of the main form, indicating the application status. I've got a 'SetAppStatus' method on the Main form.

I'm writing a class that needs to update this status. So in the class I'm Importing the Main Form. But I don't know how to call this SetAppStatus method because I don't know what the instance of the main form is called Plus am I doing this the right way? I'm still grappling a bit with how .NET all fits together and it can get a bit baffling :)

.net - Prohibit An Instance From Calling Shared/Static Method?

Aug 27, 2010

Is it possible to prohibit an instance of a class from calling a shared/static method?

For example:

I want to allow this:

ClassName.MethodOne()

But I want to disallow this:

Dim A As New ClassName
A.MethodOne()

The reason this is desirable is that in this case it is semantically confusing if an instance can call the method.

Jul 16, 2009

The first sub calls LoadRaceTimer without a problem. The second results in a "object reference not set to an instance of an object" error. I can't for the life of me figure out why. All three are in "Public Class MainScreen".

Private Sub SessionsBrowser_DocumentCompleted(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.WebBrowserDocumentCompletedEventArgs) Handles SessionsBrowser.DocumentCompleted

Updated. I'll see if I can update with the DataAccess.GetData code. I didn't originally put it in there because our shop use it all the time and have no issues with it.

Hide Form On Startup If App Occurred Because Of Windows Startup?

Jun 20, 2010

I can hide my startup form (or make it appear hidden) on startup. I can start my app on windows startup--through registry values--if the user checks a checkbox.

But if the app starts up on windows startup, I want the form to be hidden, so the program can just keep working without bothering anyone. If it starts up because the user started it, I want the form to be showing, because the user probably wants to change some settings or something.

Transfer Control To The New Instance In A Single Instance Application?

Jul 15, 2011

I have a single instance VB 2010 application I know how to communicate with the next instances run through the StartupNextInstance application event. The usual way of working with this is parsing command line arguments of the new instance and continue execution of the old instance. What I would like to do is replace the running instance with the new one. Is there any way to do this other than disabling the single instance property ?

Getting The Local Instance Of SQL Server Rather Than A Named Instance

Jul 29, 2010

A while ago, I wrote a web-based guestbook application that wrote it's own database.

My code was very amateurish, but, as it was my very first publication, I was very happy with it. Only about a month after I'd published it did I realize I'd made a huge mistake in the code.

I've only ever connected to a specific named instance of SQL Server, and it occurred to me that, if the SQL Server instance has a different name than the one I specified, it wouldn't work.

So, since my users will probably not know what the name of the instance of SQL Server that's running is, I thought adding a field where the user can specify it would help if they do, but what if they don't? My answer was to get the local instance, regardless of name.

I tried Data Source=.local;, Data Source=.; and other variants, but nothing worked.

Get "Object Reference Not Set To An Instance Of An Object" Error When Trying To Find An Instance In A String?

The code is in production and is working fine. But for some instance I am getting an "Object reference not set error". Yeah its intermittent.The requestXML is a string of xml data passed in as a paramter to a subroutine. I am fetching the xml string as a form post in a request object. The only thing I could think of getting this kind of error is when the requestXML string varia
