Stop Command Execution And Restore To Initial State?
Nov 24, 2009
I am checking to see if a textbox contains a number, or is null. If it is non numeric or null a message box appears asking the user to input the proper value. When the user clicks OK on the msgbox the program will continue to execute the code. I want it to stop executing the code and revert back to its default state as it would be if you just opened the program. What is the command for doing this so I can add to the if statement?
Dim numCheckV as boolean
numCheckV = IsNumeric(Vinput)
If numCheckV = False OrElse TextBox1.Text = "" Then
MsgBox("Please enter voltage!")
End If
I'm used to Access and have just created my first form in VB in Microsoft Visual Studio. I have added four check boxes to a form and they are connected to a SQL database and working fine with one exception: When I create a new record, the initial state of the checkbox is null so it shows a green square in the box and you have to click twice to actually place a check in it even though in the properties, the three state is set to false.
When I go into DataBindings/Advanced, and set the null value to zero, it fixes the problem with starting out as a null state in a new record, but then when I create a new record it carries the checked and unchecked state from the previous record over. (If it's checked in the current record and saved and then you click on new record, the checkbox stays checked.) I can't even figure out the correct syntax for manually setting the checkboxes to a false state in the new record event to fix it.
i'm making a vb aplication (only my second one so dont be to cruel) and i'm just wondering how to make it so that when somebody closes my aplication down and open it back up it restores it to the same state, i've had a look on google and the only thing i can find are how to remember the size and position of the form using the registry and also using flat file databases to hold the values of all the text box's but is there an easier and more elegant way
If i use the form.showdialog method to open a form, then input data.. when I close the form then re-open it the data is still there. Is there a way of restoring the forms original states, as it is on load?
I've created a "Loading" borderless Form that's displayed when loading records etc. I'm using the following to keep the loading dialog centered within it's parent.Works great except fo when the form is minimised estore- The loading form appears instantly while the parent (Owner) maximises with the usual VistaWindows 7 animated maximise.
What would be the best method to prevent the loading form appearing before the main form?
Essentially what I want to do is copy a WebBrowser object such that I can do the equivalent of "Open In New Tab" or "Open In New Window" actions, maintaining any posted data. I don't just want to navigate to the same URL as in the original WebBrowser object, rather I want to repeat the HttpWebRequest.
How do you restore a dataset to the previous state before updating the database with a data adapter? I have a concurrency update problem that I believe to be caused by this. The update fails during the update and a rollback command is issued using a SQLTransaction object. However, now the rowstates of the rows that did not have errors have been changed to unchanged. So this record is no longer availible to be inserted into the database. When I updated the value that could not be null and then test the second update which runs just as the first does then I get a concurrency error. The update code is below:
Also, how can I hide a form and keep all information saved so I can bring it back up again?
For instance, I have form1 with "alpha" written in a textbox. Now when I hide form1 (Me.Hide), I would like to be able to bring form1 back with "alpha" still written in the textbox.
Currently, I hide it, and when I show it again, the textbox is empty.
I need to stop the execution of a program in VB.net. Within a repeating structure the program checks whether a variable is true or false. When the variable is false I need to stop the program execution. I do not want to close the program but simply stop it. One way I found was raising an exception, but I would not want to display the error message to the user. What is the best way to do it ?
Do If myvariable=false then throw new exception... 'Silent exception end if Loop until ....
my application has integrated an external library with long running math-evaluations. It happens that some calls to functions in this library start but do never come to an end.
Unfortunately I have no chance to look examine the behaviour of the library. So I got the idea to stop my function calls to the library after a timeout.
Has anybody an idea how to manage this an to control the execution of a function, i.e. to stop it hardly after a certain time?
Is there a command that will stop the execution of my program?
I have a service that is processes an exchange account via telnet every 10 minutes. During one point of execution the application could possibly have a response from the telnet session when there are NO e-mails in the folder, which would look something like this[code]...
So is it possible for me to just stop my application at that point since there's no point in continuing if there are no e-mails in the account?
I have written a converting program, which converts binary files to ASCII files. (VB.net 2010). I need to have a functional "stop" button on the form and I was wondering if there was a simple command to make a program stop, exit all procedures, and wait for user input on the form.
It is not feasible to multithread this application, as it frequently interfaces with the form. Currently, I have a global boolean variable which becomes true if the stop button is pressed, and I have internal loops checking to see if the variable is true. However, I don't to waste CPU on checking a variable if it's not necessary.
I have a vb.net application that uses threads to asynchronously process some tasks in a "Scheduled Task" (console application). We are limiting this app to run 10 threads at once, like so:
(pseudo-code)
- create a generic list of 10 threads
- spawn off the threadproc for each one
- do a thread.join statement for each thread to wait for the longest running one to complete.
What i am finding is that if the code called by the threadproc contains any "Debug.Writeline" or "Trace.Traceinformation" statements, the thread hangs. I can see the thread in the Debug - Windows - Threads window, and switch to it, but it highlights the debug.writeline statement and never gets past it. is there something special about the Debug or Trace statements that make them non-thread-safe? Any idea why this would hang things up? If I leave the debug statement in, the thread never completes. If I take the debug statement out, the thread completes in less than 5 seconds.
I am working on an app and I am a bit confused w/ threading. I understand the point of threading but I am not getting when to use a background worker thread vs. a standard thread vs. a thread pool. Can someone shed some light on when to use which? Right now, I am trying code an app that does stuff initially in a sequential order and then eventually must thread (otherwise it takes forever). The problem I am having w/ the sequential stuff (and threading later) is that I need a button to be able to stop execution of code. [Code]
I did the background worker on this first sequential operation because when I tried w/ out it, the text box didn't update at all until the web page contents were retrieved. Basically, the text box change of "Starting." doesn't show up until the web page is finished processing even though the assignment to the text box happens before that code.
I have a simple dos command, I use to stop a java service which I am trying to execute within VB.NET, however it doesn't seem to stop my service. My DOS command which works is as follows:
NET STOP "Java Quick Starter"
My VB.NET attempt is as follows but it doesn't work:
Public Class Form1 Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load Me.Visible = False
How to make a program wait till a shell command finishes? For example:[code]In this example the line "Finished" is first written and only after then the shell function starts. How to start the shell function first, and only when it has been finished write the line "Finished"?
When I do it via VB express, it is clumping the code together. For example
Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000) SendKeys.Send("enter was entered ") Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000) SendKeys.Send("double tab was input ")
Instead of pausing for 5 seconds, typing the keys then pausing for another 5 seconds, it pauses for 10 seconds and then immediately types the input. I tested this on notepad.
How do I replicate the sleep feature in VB script into VB? There appears not to be a sleep feature in VB Express 2010
I have a client application that has been in use on about 14 workstations for nearly a year now. on the admin side the old app works correctly but the new one comes up with an error stating a column (Job_ID auto increment primary key) in the database does not exist when inserting a new job record yet it still adds the job to the database. all information is correct. The estimation side does not come up with this error and all computers in both departments run the same exact application installed from the same disk. all issues seem to be related to the jobs table only. But the same workstations with the column not existing error on admin side have a different setup on the network and will not allow a desktop icon to be created by the new application or manually.
im wanting to make a game that will teach users about server security systems. By programing a game that will act like you are in the real field or in real life right now how malicious users would go about hacking a server that way you can secure your server in the future.
But what im having trouble with is getting the whole setup its basically going to be a text based game. on startup i have a warning message pop saying this software is not meant for illegal use and upon hitting ok the other software pops up with a logo and to the left is options
Shell, Hack Tools, Shop, E-Mail, CPU Now what i want to do is when the user clicks Shell a somewhat shell like system would pop up giving you base line stories to do. But how would i go about making the user commands for example if user typed in
[code...]
So the main question here is how would i get the commands to work? And then lets say your first objective is to find a random .txt file somewhere in the server . User would have to type
I want to execute my project in command line like C:myEXE "C:SourceFile.xls" "C:OutPutFile.XLS" So here I am passing the input file (In application , I have Browse Dialog) and have to get out put file in the mentioned Name(this also, i will mention in SaveFile dialog in UI).
So need to support this in command line as I told above.
Private Sub Button14_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button14.Click Shell("dataiphuc -a com.apple.afc2 -s data/scriptn1") Its a DOS Command End Sub
Private Sub TextBox1_TextChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TextBox1.TextChanged
When A Button click a Dos Command Execute..So How I can Do execute A dos Command log Show in Textbox1..
I was having problems updating information in my SQL database using my vb.net application, but recently I found the solution. However now I have run into another problem which is shown in the code below:
Private Sub cmdupdate_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdupdate.Click Dim conn As New MySqlConnection Dim myCommand As New MySqlCommand '####### conn.ConnectionString = "server=" & frmLogin.txtserver.Text & ";" _ & "user id=" & frmLogin.txtusername.Text & ";" _ [Code] .....
The exception message is: Fatal error encountered during command execution. I don't know if this is simply a syntax error that can be fixed easily, or something to do with my database configuration.
Before posting this question I have carried out a few searches on this forum but I am afraid I am struggling because I am very new to Visual Basic and although I do have some programming background, yesterday was day 1 and I took a web tutorial and watched a few video tutorials. (Long way to go!).
OK to the question and I know I should really not ask 2 but It's better to get them both in one post I think.
I want to build a small utility to run a form in full screen to basically hide an old application running in the background.
My old application is a database (Non VB code) which works very well but while it batch exports a lot of data the software displays some pretty ugly windows, I want to call my VB utility from a command prompt with 1 or more switches to display some meaningful text about where it is in the routine.
I also want to be able to send a switch at the end to close it completly.
Q1 - What is the best way to manage command prompt switches ?
