String Popup Location Of A Form Control?
Feb 22, 2012
After a little research, I managed to get a working Help button added to my form. I did this by setting the MinimizeBox and MaximizeBox properties of the form to false, set the ShowHelp property of the form to true and added a HelpProvider component. I then added a string to each control's HelpString property that I want to display help on.
Everything works with one minor exception. When I clcik the help button in the form and then select a control, the HelpString (tooltip) is displayed in the far lower left corner of the screen. I assumed I would see this pop up at the cursor rather than where it is. I cannot seem to find a property to control the position of the HelpString popup.

I have a problem I am trying to set the parent textbox from the modal popup.
Although I found the control from the modal popup with the below code
DirectCast(Parent.Page.Form.FindControl("ContentPlaceHolder1").FindControl("myAccordion").FindControl("txtTo"), TextBox).Text = str
This is being called on button click when the user has finished selecting from the Checkboxlist.
When the parent page is shown again though the textbox is empty.
The scenario of my user control is that a user is to select from a checkbox list which is a list of emails.
When done has been clicked then it is required that the selected emails be forwarded to the parent webpage.
Then the To Textbox in this case will be filled with the emails that the user has selected.

I am using an embedded webbrowser control to access a third-party website, populate the username and password boxes on their front page, and login. The problem I have is that the resulting window that the site returns to me is in the form of a new window. What I want to do is capture this window and all it's session/cookie data in to the original webbrowser control, as even if I direct the original window to the same resulting url, some kind of authentication data is missing and the site tells me I have logged out, even though the popup window works fine. I need that page in the original control so that I can continue to access it programmatically, and I don't really want to get in to the complication of accessing the new window, as I expect I'll have to delve in to the api or something.

I'm trying to use the WebKit-component ([URL]) in VB with the help of Visual Studio 2008. This is running without problems, except for two following two issues:
1. Hints/Tooltips are not shown (e.g. as there usually will appear one if you stay with the mouse over the Google-logo)
2. If there's a popup-window, I don't know how to get the new desired URL.

I need to save the controls location and size on the parent form to file. My aim is to be able to simply copy that file to the path where an instance of my program is running and then it automatically applies the previously saved layout of controls. How can I use My.Settings to do that or is there another better option?

How can I get x and y coordinates of a control's location on a form relative to the Screens Top Left corner?
For example, if I have 3 labels on a form and I want label2 and label3 to display the x and y of label1 relative to the screens top and left corner.
When running the app, as the form's possition is changed label 2 and 3 update the coordinate of Label1's possition relative to the top left of the screen.

I have a control on a form - I need to know the coordinates of that control relative to the FORM.
Now before I get six replies saying, "Control.Location DUH!!" that only works when the control's parent IS the form. What if the control is nested inside one or more container controls?
Could I write a routine that crawls up all parent containers until I reach the form calculating each offset as I go? Sure! But this extremely crude operation seems clunky to me - What I'm looking for is something a little cleaner.
So far the closest I've been able to come is this:
Dim ClientPoint As Point = Ctrl.PointToScreen(Ctrl.Location)
Dim LocationLeft As Integer = (ClientPoint.X - Ctrl.ParentForm.Left) - Ctrl.Left
Dim LocationTop As Integer = (ClientPoint.Y - Ctrl.ParentForm.Top) - Ctrl.Top
The problem with the above code is: It does NOT take the Form's border or Titlebar into consideration... so this calculated location would be off slightly depending on what kind of border the form has.

I have a parent form that has a combobox. Whn the form loads I get the data from the db and bind to the combobox. that works fine and here is the code I use in form load to cause this to happen: [code] Now if there is not an Account Type, I have a button that will pull up a small form to allow the addition of an account type. The popup form adds the data back to the database just fine, but I am now trying to get the combobox to refresh its data. So I call a public Sub that is located in the parent form to from the popup form to accomplish this task and I have walked the code and the sub is called and appears to work correctly, but the new data never appears in the combobox. Here is my public sub that i call to try and refresh the combobox on the parent form. [code] But when I go back to the parent form, the combobox is not updated with the new account. How can i get the combobox to refresh from the database with the new data?

I downloaded the extended webbrowser control created by Matt Kleinwaks (thank you for sharing that).I am using the control to fill out forms on a website. The website uses a popup that contains an html form. The popup form will not close if I click the the html submit button or the close button (it does when using a regular browser). The bigger problem I am having is that when the popup reopens, it contains data in the html boxes that was I have already submited on a previous iteration of the popup. Like it is being cached or something. I am wondering if this has to do with the html buttons not working properly.I basically hit submit on the form, the browse rcontrol hangs up, then I close the form manually. Is there a line of code or something I can add to get it to work right? Like clearing a cookie or disposing of the popup form after I close it?

I am using a WebBrowser to load a webpage. In that page, there are several links. When clicking on one, it opens and then immediately closes. IE7's popup blocker is set to allow all from this site, nor does it work even if the popup blocker is completely disabled. I have no other blocker running.
how I can make these windows stay open?

Hello: i have javascript code for a popup calendar and works fine if a form is a form control:
<form id="FormView1" runat="server">
however, if i use my formview control w/ the same code for a formview control, it doesn't put the value back into my text box txtDate after the user selects the date:
<asp:FormView ID="FormView1" runat="server">
<asp:TextBox ID="txtDate" runat="server" TabIndex="3" Width="65px" ></asp:TextBox>
<a onmouseover="window.status ='Please Select Date';return true;"
onmouseout="window.status='';return true;"
href="javascript:show_calendar('FormView1.txtDate');">
<img alt="open calendar" src="images/SmallCalendar.gif"/></a>
this seems to be the only difference so i was wondering if perhaps i need to reference this form in a different way? i don't know why it won't work for my formview control.

I'm using VB2008 Express. And I've been working on a "popup" to select a date range. The DateTimePicker isn't ideal because the purpose is to pick a date range, which will always be one full week, from Sunday through Saturday. The control works just fine and I'm pretty proud of it. My problem has to do with the border added when using ToolstripControlHost for this. I've included a screenshot and my code.
In the code below, assume there exists a button named "btnTimePeriod", below which I desire to show a panel, which contains a few custom items, and the panel's name is "pnlDateRangePicker".IT WORKS... but it doesn't look right. The panel itself is 147 x 326 pixels, but notice in the attached graphic that it's adding a border around the panel which I don't want. There's a border on the top, bottom, and left... but for some reason the border on the right one is especially large. Although my code doesn't expressly set it, AutoSize = true so I would have expected it to shrink around the panel.
As required, my code already does set ShowCheckMargin and ShowImageMargin false. I haven't included the code for the DrawDateCalander Sub because it's not relevant. I believe even a blank panel would yield the same result. I have no idea where this margin is coming from.
Private Sub btnTimePeriod_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnTimePeriod.Click
Call DrawDateCalendar(DatePart(DateInterval.Month, FirstDisplayedSunday), DatePart(DateInterval.Year, FirstDisplayedSunday))
Call ShowControlBelow(btnTimePeriod, pnlDateRangePicker)
End Sub

I'm working with a Silverlight Popup control (SL4). I would like to update data shown on that popup every time the user opens it (IsOpen=true) by passing a string and calling a Private method located in the Popup control behind code to fetch updated data.
I was hoping to place code to make this happen in the Opened event of the Popup, but such an event does not seem to exist (even though I found some documentation on it).

Is there an easy way to get the nearest control to a control of choice? I have a picture box and some other moving controls. I want to delete the nearest control to my picture box. So I have to get the position of all controls and delete that with the Location nearest to the Location of my picture box. I'm not sure about how to do that the best way.

I need a function that returns a control within a form based on a string name. I've tried Jim's method here, but then found out that it will not work with SplitContainers. Therefore, I feel like I need to use a recursive function, or maybe a stack. I've tried many different examples online, but I can't seem to get any to work.
This is the code for the latest try, as taken from here:
Public Function FindControlRecursively(ByVal ParentControl As Control, ByVal ControlTobeSearched As String) As Control
Dim FoundControl As New Control
For Each CurrentControl As Control In ParentControl.Controls
[Code] .....
Note that the above code only seems to return a blank control.

It's an appointment scheduler with a calendar layout. You double click a time slot, window pops open for info, then you click save and it saves/updates. Based on which doctor you select from a drop down list, only their patients will show and any appointments you add will be assigned to that doctor. I got that working.Then I wanted to see if I could use a custom form rather than the default popup form, so just as a test, I threw some textboxes on the main form to see if I could get the data from them. Those worked too.Now, when I try adding a new form that will pop up with those same textboxes on it, I get the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object". Here is my code:
Code: With TestAppointmentDataBaseDataSet1 Try Dim NR As TestAppointmentDataBaseDataSet.AppointmentRow NR = TestAppointmentDataBaseDataSet3.Appointment.NewAppointmentRow NR.ID = Form1.txtOwner.Text NR.Patient_Name = txtFirstName.Text + txtLastName.Text 'NR.Reason1 = txtReason.Text 'NR.Phone1 =
[code]....
That's in the save button routine. I was getting this error at every TestAppointmentDataBaseDataSet line, and for some reason VS has about 6 different numbered versions of this. I don't know why there are so many, but I think that may be why it's screwing up. I got rid of all but one of those errors by trying each numbered version of the data set until the error went away, but now I can't get the last one away. I commented in the code above where the error occurs.

Using vb.net. I've got a main form that displays when application is opened. A popup form can then be opened. If there are other windows opened on the desktop, for example windows explorer, then when the popup form is closed, the main form gets hidden behind windows explorer. You have to move windows explorer out of the way to get to the main form. Is there a way to keep this from happening?

what I mean, every full-featured program has one. Tools > Options brings it up in Firefox. First off, I've looked for tutorials on making these and can't find them anywhere, does anybody have any links? Second, I'm making mine with a TreeView and panels. The problem is designing this thing with all of these overlapping panels! It's crazy. So, how do you easily make an options menu like Firefox where clicking on different tabs brings up different data options?
