As know mid(source, wordstart, wordlength) in VB6 source.substring(wordstart, wordlength) in vb2008 what differebce between both ?i can run it "mid(source, wordstart, wordlength)" at vb 6 with no problem, but i can't run it" source.substring(wordstart, wordlength)" at vb2008 'System.ArgumentOutOfRangeException' happened with System.Windows.Forms.dll
Not sure this is the most efficient way but i am trying to set a connection sting via the openfile dialogue. Is this possible? Im trying to enable a user to specify the excel file they want and to access the excel data using data adapter and fill table etc. Im use to working with access db files but not excel.
Under component services, a COM+ component is used by the company, right-clicking it and choosing 'Activation' tab will show the 'constructor string' that is used for DB server connection by all applications. How can I access it the simplest way possible?
I have a class library that contains a number of classes. I would like to dynamically create an instance of one of these classes, set its properties, and call a method.
Example:
Public Interface IExample Sub DoSomething() End Interface Public Class ExampleClass
I'm trying to setup a WCF web service to be consumed by JavaScript using JSON and jQuery.I've noticed that you can send JSON without a DataContract if the service method parameters match the naming structure of the JSON object:
dim myCollection as new Specialized.StringCollection dim myFoundThings as new ArrayList dim index as Integer dim newResultMemberName as String
[code]....
This is part of some code that will run without user interaction once it's spinning away, and I need to create a unique object from some items found in a StringCollection, naming the objects using information found in the strings stored in that StringCollection.
This is something that has been bugging me for a while as it is easily fixed but not desirable.I have a DataGridView that has 5 columns. The first is called ID.In vb.net the following line gives an error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object": dgvJobs.Columns("ID").Visible = False ' ERROR dgvJobs.Columns(0).Visible = False ' OK
Obviously using the name is much better than a hard coded value to reference the column but wondering if there is anything i can do to get this to work correctly? The datagridview datasource is BindingSource control with the datasource being a dataset.
MVC 3 razor VB.NET project. I have resorted to manual building a list for a drop down box so I can insure certain values are available in the select list and also to control what the first item is in the list. The below is my code snippet for the part that is giving me problems..
I get an error at the ReadContents(0) = FilePath line saying "Object reference not set to an instance of an object", but the message box shows that "FilePath" holds the file path string.
I am attempting to make a tabbed browser and I am getting a couple of errors. First one is "name 'addtab' is not declared" the second is "reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference" the third is "statement is not valid in a namespace" and lastley "the resource name 'stop' is not a valid identifier"
I am using the IndexOf function of the string class to find a specific instance of a string. And based on that I have a logic to do something. Below is the example of what I am doing. The code is in production and is working fine. But for some instance I am getting an "Object reference not set error". Yeah its intermittent. The requestXML is a string of xml data passed in as a paramter to a subroutine. I am fetching the xml string as a form post in a request object. The only thing I could think of getting this kind of error is when the requestXML string varia
requestXml = Request("requestXML") SubmitRequest(requestXml) Private Sub SubmitRequest(ByVal requestXml
What I am trying to do is scan through the arraylist that has the number of the label control and concatenate this to the word "label" to end up with "label1", "label2", etc. Then I can then set it's visible property. The values in the array are based on tests in the code.
I haven't hit upon the right way to convert the string "label1" to the name of an object.
HTML Private Sub FlagAnswers(ByVal wrongArray As ArrayList) Dim sCtrName As String
I have an array of conditions with elements like "thunderstorm", "severe thunderstorm", etc. I want to loop through the elements and, for each element, check a registry key. Then, based on that registry key I want to either check or leave unchecked a checkbox called TornadoCheckBox, SevereThunderstormCheckBox, etc.
Here's what I've got so far:
Dim ConditionsArrayString() As String = {"Tornado", "Thunderstorm", "Severe Thunderstorm", "Hail", "Snow", "Heavy Snow"} Dim CurrentConditionString As String
Is there a way to reference an object by using the value of a string read from a text file? Here's an example of what I mean: I have a user control called 'Fish', one called 'Cats', and one called 'Dogs' and so on.... I have a text file containing this line, amongst many others in a long script written after compile time by the user:
In C# .NET 3.5, is there a way to instantiate an object given its string name? For example, suppose I have a DLL (e.g., MyClass.DLL) which contains type MyClass. Is possible to write something like... Object myClass = SomeMethodToInstantiate("MyClass"); // ? Is it possible to do this in VB .NET 3.5?
I have been assigned to Convert a VB.NET project to C# and I got stuck. I am using a class called RsiOPCAuto, but I don't think that I'll have to go into to much detail into explaining how it works. Let's just get on with my issue.
So basicly what i do is grabbing an object from my class using this code:
public partial class FrmPartialMain : Form { RsiOPCAuto.OPCServer oOpcServer;
how find an object's type when it is a subclass of another object and I only know the string value of the object's type's name.
I created the follwing classes:
Public Class word End Class Public Class noun
[Code]...
Using 'TypeOf', I correctly see that pn is a properNoun, a noun and a word. The problem is, using 'GetType' to check pn against a string value, I can only see that pn is a properNoun, not that its parent classes are noun and word.
Is there a way to check pn against the string value "noun" or "word" and get back a positive result, indicating that pn is indeed a noun and a word as well as a properNoun?
This might just be a matter of taste, but I'm wondering if there's a "recommended" way to compare a variable of type Object (which might be Nothing or have a different dynamic type than String) to a string literal in VB.NET. The following options obviously won't work:
If myObject = "Hello World" Then ... -- won't compile If myObject Is "Hello World" Then ... -- tests for reference equality, which is just wrong If myObject.Equals("Hello World") Then ... -- throws an exception if myObject is Nothing If DirectCast(myObject, String) = "Hello World" Then ... -- throws an exception if myObject is not a string
Thus, the only (simple, single-expression) solution I could find is to use
If "Hello World".Equals(myObject) Then ...
which looks a bit clumsy to me. Did I miss any obvious alternative, other than doing type checks or explicit checks for Nothing?(Of course, we're talking about Option Strict On.)
I am looking for a way to convert my List(Of string) into an Object in vb. So in the end it would be the same as declaring Dim cArray() As Object = new Object. Can anyone point me to how i can achieve this? I cannot use the LINQ .ToArray as that creates a string array and this is not acceptable for my work. I need to pass this object into another one that has the parameter (aArray as Object).
We have an object with properties, and a a SQL database we're reading in, to create a list of objects, with columns corresponding to each property.if a column is missing from the database (e.g. caused by an outdated version of the database), we want to assign a default value to it.I've created a dictionary, mapping the column name to its default value (both strings). However, I was wondering if it was possibly to somehow convert the column name (string) to an object property (e.g. the string "name" to AnObject.name?), as the property and column name are generally the same.I tried to use GetType().GetPropert("column name"), but I can't seem to do assignments through that)Alternately, is it possible to somehow create a dictionary, storing the object property as the key (and the column name and default value in a struct), and then grabbing it after.?
i'm having problems creating a public string varialble in a class or module. i am going to be refering to it in many forms so this way i only will have to change the text of the string once and not on each form.Currently when i try to use the new string variable as an object variable from another form, it isnt showing up as an object i can reference. [code]
This is a scratchy rough copy (Published as Version 1.1.0 because there was a huge logic error in 1.0.0), and I was wondering if anyone could give me pointers on how to make the code better. The heart of the program is here. I don't have the code for the SplashScreen, AboutBox, and the InstructionsForm because that is unnecessary. The main issue that I have is with the large EndSalesButton_Click event. The big block there is driving my eyes and brain crazy while trying to test the logic. So, to sum up everything, can anyone make that look nicer and easier on the mind? If you would like to run my program to better understand how it works, feel free to contact me at either of the two emails in the beginning declarations (lines 2 and 3)of the code below.
