I get the following error:Application-defined or object-defined error. From what I can understand, it's when I attempt to attach a file to the email, I get that error. What I noticed is that it's because the file is in use.Is there anyway to attach the file anyway? My users are simply not closing their files after saving, right now I'm using computer manager to kick them out. The process is for them to save a file on a server through a share and then I pick that up and send it. Works fine as long as they close the file after save.

I've made a small application which has a Form (Form1) and a Class (SocketClass). The Class holds the very basic kind of coding to connect to a server and download data. All communications are done through Sockets based on asynchronous methods. What I do is that when my application starts and I click the Connect button my form, it creates a new class (SocketClass) and creates a new socket and connects to server asynchronously. After a connection is made, it starts a loop that keeps monitoring for incoming data. I do that by calling BeginRead.
My application works perfectly. But there is one problem. When I try to disconnect the socket, it crashes my application. I've played around a lot with the code now, it appears that it crashes when a BeginRead is in progress. As per MSDN, I have to call ShutDown or Close to cancel a BeginRead and disconnect the connection. But even if I do that, it crashes my application.

I have written little console application that sends emails. It behaves in the following manner:when I run this application in debug mode and go through code step by step it sends emails;when I run this application in debug mode and do not go through code step by step, last email does not get sent;when I build and move application to server and create a task for it, last email does not get sent;when I execute application from Windows explorer (double click on .exe file), last email does not get sent;when I execute application from command prompt it sends all emails; What is interesting is that when I putthread.sleep(200) all emails are sent! Note that I am using this code in my ASP applications and all mails are sent always. If mail has attachment, it is always sent, even if it is last in queue (but this is another application that works correctly).
Code that I use (class for mailing):

I have written an application which uses the Outlook object library to send an e-mail with information from a textbox. I programmed this on Windows 7 and Office 2010, which was a mistake as most of the clients will be using Windows XP and Office 2007. I am getting an error when running the application on Windows XP/2007:
Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook, Version=14.0.0.0 .... etc
I understand that this is because I have not loaded the Outlook 12.0 assemblies, however I am having trouble adding the assemblies on my Win7/2010 programming machine. I have downloaded the standalone Office 2007 PIAs however the Outlook 12.0 doesnt appear on the list, and when I try and add just the Office 12.0 I get an error.
is there a way to standardise and make the application work with both 2007 and 2010 outlook machines? I think it is possible, I have read some articles making the application choose the correct version, however cannot figure out how to.

I am a one man dev shop and need some outside opinions on how to approach this project.
I need to create a "post office" program that will send html emails thru the system.net.mail framework.
For each job submitted to the postoffice the app would need to read a user created html email string from the database, read a string of email addresses to send to and send out the emails based on a set processing time.
The first step would be to parse out the email addresses to find out how many emails it needs to send out and determine how many it would need to send per minute to complete the job in 20 minutes tops. I.e. if 1000 email addresses are submitted per job it would determine that it needs to send 50 emails per minute to complete the job.
The part I am stuck on is how I should queue the emails. If the app determines it needs to send 50 a minute should I only load up the first 50 on a timer event then get the next 50 queued up for the next timer tick? Or would it be better to load up all 1000 in a loop and build in some kind of wait time after it sends the first 50?

I am teaching myself vb.net and wanted to change this code to have an embedded mail.boby from a text file instead of the file attachment. Code spippet below and where I need help is mail.Body = ("tracertALL.txt")
that just puts the name of the file NOT the contents of the file. This code is a CMDWrapper that runs a batch file and I want the contents of a trace route that is pipe to a file >> tracertALL.txt .

This is what I'm trying to accomplish: I have a Point of Sale application that integrates with a credit card processesor. I wan't to remove any user interfacing logic in regards to the credit card processor in the point of sale and add it to a application that sits in the background or system tray. I want to be able to send a command to the background app to popup a form for user input.
For example: User in the Point of Sale clicks a button "Credit Card" at this point it will send a command to the background app say "ProcessCC" which will pass a transactionid and an amount , this will open a form for the user to enter in the credit card information and submit the payment to the credit card proccessor.
Reason: I need to get a padss certification and don't want to submit the point of sale to do it. Rather send the simple background app that will control any credit card processing functionality such as encryption , storing etc. I know it can be done using sockets but was hopping for an alternative solution.

I am writing an application to compare each item on listbox1 to all items on listbox2. If the item is found, then remove it from both lists. The goal is to only have the items that were not found remain on both lists.
The problem is, the application just hangs and I never get any results. I looked at my code several times and I cannot figure out what's going on (programming noob I know.

This is going to be a strange issue and I don't expect an answer,.I'm using Ghost32.exe to image HDDs within a Windows PE environment. With the release of WinPE 4.0, we can now use the 4.0 .NET framework. So in order to capture any errors that Ghost reports, I'm redirecting the standard error stream so I can review it later.
But, when I implement those two lines of code (highlighted below), the application crashes.I've implemented error logging with the UnhandledException event of the application, but it never fires during this error. All other errors fire, but this one does not.So I ran it in normal Windows and I receive the following error:Quote:The system cannot find the file specified
But when I comment out those lines, it opens just fine. So I'm a little confused.
