I have a new problem with this same Form Printing project and I get exactly the same exception but from the different point of code:
line 538: d.PrintFunction(c, typePrint, mp, x, y, extendedHeight, ScanForChildControls)
The exception type is System.AccessViolationException and it says (after I translate it from my own language in which the message is given in my pc, into English):"Protected memory was tried to be read or written. This often indicates that the other memory is damaged"

I have created a WFA that has 5 projects in it. One of the projects runs against 600 + servers and queries each server for local administrator accounts and then dumps that into an excel file. It will also check to see if the account that is in a local administrator group is disabled in AD. The problem that I have is that when I run the particular project I will run out of virtual memory. I have 4 gig on my computer. Is there a way to control this?[code]...

is this possible to do in memory (so i can get rid of any disk IO)?:
If File.Exists("c:MyImage.png") Then
File.Delete("c:MyImage.png")
End If
[Code]....
This above code works great the first time then errors out on any successive attempts after that with the file being used by another process at the File.Delete line. The image is being generated for use as a mail attachment and i've only ever done it via a phyical file on the disk.

I have created a windows form based application and I want the form to add a user specified amount of user controls (with textboxes) on to a panel. The user can then click some button and the controls on this panel are cleared and new ones are added. The user does something and the process is repeated. Now, I wanted these textboxes to support spell checking and looked all over for a free solution.
WPF textboxes support spell checking where the ones in regular win forms do not. I thought I would be able to use these WPF textboxes by adding them to an ElementHost object which is, in turn, within a panel. This panel would be a user control.
So, in my application, I would be able to add instances of these user controls onto the form and make use of .NET's spell checking goodness. This actually worked but after using the application for a while, found that the application would eventually freeze on me due to out of memory errors. I have pinpointed the memory errors to these WPF controls since this problem does not happen with normal textboxes.
When the window is opened and the number of controls is specified, this is pretty much how the controls are added:
Dim xOffset As Integer = 0
For i As Integer = 0 To theNumber
Dim myUserControl As New SpecialUserControl()
[Code].....
There are a lot of results on the internet when I tried to find a solution and I'm thinking that the problem I am having is due to the fact that the WPF control is not going away even after clearing the panel. Following this conclusion, I have tried different solutions regarding disposing these controls or setting them to nothing but the memory problem keeps occurring.

WebBrowser Example.zip IntroductionBecause the WebBrowser control that we use in .NET is a COM control, not all of its uses are straightforward and some of them (even those which seem like they should be easy) require that we dip into our Interop toolbox in order to properly implement them.
A perfect example of this is loading HTML content into the WebBrowser from memory, rather than a file or a URL. Anyone who's ever used the WebBrowser control before is familiar with the Navigate2 method, which tells the control to load content from a URL (or path to a file). Loading HTML content from memory, however, is a rather elusive practice because of the many steps involved in making it work.
MSHTML.HTMLDocumentYou might notice that the WebBrowser control exposes a "document" property. The object returned by this property can be coerced to the type of "mshtml.HTMLDocument" (you must add a reference to MSHTML to your project in order to make this work) as follows:
Code:Dim clsDocument As mshtml.HTMLDocument = CType(WebBrowser.Document, mshtml.HTMLDocument)
(NOTE: You will have to add a reference to the COM library MSHTML to your project to make this compile)
Once we create an instance of HTMLDocument, a whole new world opens up to us, providing all sorts of DOM access to the content of any given Web page.
If we were to create our own HTMLDocument object from memory, we could use the "write" method to write HTML content to the document from a string variable, like this:
Code:'initialize the document object within the HTMLDocument class... clsDocument.close() clsDocument.open("about:blank")
'write the HTML to the document using the MSHTML "write" method... Dim clsHTML() As Object = {sHTML} m_clsDocument.write(clsHTML) clsHTML= Nothing
WebBrowser Control ImplementationUsing the HTMLDocument returned by the "document" property of the WebBrowser control, however, is not as straight-forward. Because of the way that this object is created and initialized in memory (by the COM WebBrowser control), the "write" method fails when called as above. In order to write content to the HTMLDocument exposed by the WebBrowser control, we must first marshal the string value to a memory space that is compatible with COM. Once the string is properly marshalled, the COM interface IPersistStreamInit (implemented by the HTMLDocument class) must be used to pass the value into the object.
Interop DeclarationsIn order to pull all of this off, we must declare several Interop pieces, including an enumeration, a function, and two interfaces. The declarations for these pieces are as follows:
[Code]....

I am working on a user control. Embedded in my user control is another user control. All of a sudden while programming some simple stuff I get an "out of memory error message". I can no longer load my project (after reboots etc.). I start a new project, copy the control.vb files into a new project folder.. add then add the control to the new project. Ican view the design and the code of the control. When I attempt to drag the control onto another control in the same project I get an error message
"Failed to create component... 'system.outofmemoryexception. Out of memory".

I am writing an application that will use a OpenFileDialog control that will read a text file into memory and later process it.
I do have the following filter: Text files (*.txt)|*.txt|CSV files (*.csv)|*.csv|Spaced Text files (*.prn)|*.prn|All files (*.*)|*.*"
When I navigate to my test folder that contains a single .txt file, I see that file. When I change the filter to *.cvs that files goes disappears because it has a .txt extension. That is good. But when I select All files *.* it does not re appear? Why and how do I make it appear.

Im getting a problem with one of my programs I have made in visual basic.NET where it gives me a memory error when i debug the program in the IDE. the exact error is this: "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt". My program basically has a few forms with text fields on that get their text values from an access database on the same hard drive. Im wondering if im doing something wrong because my program just seems to eat up memory whenever it does anything. For example I have one form that has a combobox on it and when you change the drop down list selection it retreives a few strings from the database and puts them into the relevant text boxes, if you keep changing the selection then the memory usage (in task manager) just keeps going up and up. occasionally I get the error mentioned above when debugging but in my built version of the program it throws an exception everytime the memory usage gets past 49K.
Also I noticed when debugging in the "immediate window" frame I get the following message often:A first chance exception of type 'System. Invalid OperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll...Do I need to somehow be "releasing" the memory that is used to gather data once it becomes redundant?

I have a BackgroundWorker object that I instantiated to perform a DB process on a background thread ansynchronously. I have event handlers for DoWork and RunWorkerCompleted. I can tell that the BackgroundWorker is disposing of itself because I added a message box into the Disposed event handler. Is it necessary to detach the event handlers to ensure that the memory is cleaned up and that there are not memory leaks?

I've noticed that every time I start a new thread in my program, the memory usage jumps about 1000k and it never goes back down. I have ensured that the thread is no longer running, and only one instance of my worker thread is ever running at a time. I am using ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem and ASyncOperation to get stuff done. The program starts using a Sub Main in a module that uses STAThread; I read that using STAThread instead of MTAThread makes it impossible for the Garbage Collector to get in and consider objects for garbage collection. However, when I change the STAThread to an MTAThread, the WebBrowser control in my frmMain cannot be instantiated.
I get this exception:
Code: An unhandled exception of type 'System.Threading.ThreadStateException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll
Additional information: ActiveX control '8856f961-340a-11d0-a96b-00c04fd705a2' cannot be instantiated because the current thread is not in a single-threaded apartment. I do threading with the WebBrowser control, so will using MTAThread fix my problem? If so, how should I partition my code so that the WebBrowser control won't be affected by the above exception? I call the thread repeatedly with a timer (although only one instance ever runs at a time), and my program's memory usage starts at about 5000k and can jump to 300,000k+ depending on many times the thread needs to be called.

I cannot use Visual Basic 2008 at all. When I go to "new project" and choose "Windows Form Application" I get this error.I have tried multiple uninstall/reinstall with no result.A microsoft reply to this suggested that I needed: " .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 " I checked, and I did not have the .netframework 2.0 service Pack 1.
When I tried to download and install the above from Microsoft.com, the istaller said that "it was not allowsed" and I was not able to install the service pack 1.
I tried Uninstalling net framework 3.5, 3.0, 2.0 and then reinstalling .netframework 2.0 sevice pack 1; then reinstalling Visual basic 2008 express edition. At the reinstall of Visual basic 2008, .netframework 2.0 sevice pack 1 is unistalled by .net framework service pack 2.When I check the foruims for simiar problems, the formus are mostly for Visual basic 5.0, or other programs that I do not have.
Here is the programs I have installed:
Operating system: Windows XP
Microsoft .net framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET framwork 1.1 Hotfix(KB928366)
Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2

I did a project (College Management) in vb.net 2008 which contains 13 forms in it. I designed the different functions in a different normal form, i.e. frmAdmission, frmSearch etc. When the project run's the main form is loaded. When user chooses a particular function say 'frmSearch' then the main form is unloaded and the form frmSearch is loaded. Now my lecturer told me to use MDI forms instead of normal forms because, normal forms takes larger memory than the MDI forms.

I have an VB application that I developed in Visual Studio 2008. The back end is SQL. Application stores quite a bit of information and gets updated daily by users. It also connects to AD to get u/p, adds new accounts in AD and adds mailboxes. Users connect to it through Citrix. We noticed big spikes in memory usage. The executable itself is less than 5Mb; if I run it and it opens main form - memory usage jumps to about 19Mb, open a report - it jumps to 80 Mb. If I open the form that is linked to multiple tables - it jumps to 157 Mb. Once users start pulling new information in, update it and connect to AD or Exchange - it could jump to 250 Mb. Also noticed that if user with read only rights has application opened and idle - memory usage constantly changes with a pattern
like 17Mb - 19 Mb - 15 Mb - 17 Mb and so on. This user wasn't even using computer at the time. In general - what could cause such jumps in memory usage? What is the best way to prevent it? On the server we have Windows Server 2003 SE

I was running VS2008 express and WinXP and everything was working great. I'm now running VS2010 Express and Win7 x64
My issue is that I am running a webbrowser control that is loading a page with scripts and I get a "Out of memory at line xxxx" and the page wont finish. I've tried it on XP and it works fine so it is a Win7 issue. I call it by the standard, wb.navigate("link.com") and it errors out. If I do a "process.start("link.com") it opens a new window and works great. If I open IE or firefox standalone, everything works great. It has something to do with my webbrowser so my question is how/why is the webbrowser different than the standard IE webbrowser?
I would try to load a new IE window, but I don't know how to pull and push data to a webbrowser outside of my app. My app does form manipulation in website to streamline manual processes for filling forms out.
