TableAdapter That Points To TableA Or TableB - Table As Parameter?
Oct 18, 2011
I've got a TableAdapter that could point to one of 2 tables (Live vs Dev) - right now, i'm manually going in and changing the table names when before i publish the project, but it's annoying, to say the least. Is there a way to set the table as a variable / parameter?Basically, I'm looking for the equivalent of:
SELECT @hTable1.*, @hTable2.*
FROM @hTable1
LEFT JOIN @hTable2 ON (@hTable1.PO_ID = @hTable1.PO_ID)
I have a query in a myTableAdapter that ends with WHERE column IN (@S). This works fine when I use myTableAdapter.Fill(dataset.table, "text") but I can't find any way that works to provide multiple text strings such as "text1, text2" for the IN parameter.
Unable to create a parameter query using the table adapter wizard to process an access db file. Went online and attempted to create an instance for new adapter with out success, when I click finish the wizard does not like the in the query WHERE (Last_Name LIKE @Last_Name). Also receive a warning that my code contains to many arguments for 'txtLastName.Text' Tried to paste screen
Public Class FindMemberForm Private Sub FindMemberForm_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
I have a project which contains a large number of lookup tables, and I have all of these lookup tables represented in a single typed DataSet, which contains TableAdapters for each lookup. I've designed an editor for these lookup tables, which should allow editing of one of these at a time. My front-end is written in VB and WinForms, the back-end is a SOAP web service; I can successfully pass the changes to the DataSet back to the web service, but can't find a way to use a TableAdapter to update the single table that has been changed.
What I'm trying to do is instantiate the appropriate TableAdapter for the updated DataTable by sending the name of the table back to the web service along with the DataSet, then referring to the TableAdapter with a dynamic name. The normal way to instantiate a TableAdapter is this:
Dim ta As New dsLookupsTableAdapters.tlkpMyTableTableAdapter
What I'd like to do is this, but of course it doesn't work:
strTableName = "tlkpMyTable" Dim ta As New dsLookupsTableAdapters(strTableName & "TableAdapter")
Is there any way to achieve this, or am I taking the wrong approach altogether? My other alternative is to write separate code for each table, which I'd prefer to avoid!
I have already defined in my SELECT statement in TableAdapter to tell it what to do if the parameters are Null:
SELECT a.ID, a.NameID, b.BNameID FROM a INNER JOIN b ON a.ID = b.ID WHERE ((@NameID IS NULL) OR (a.NameID = @NameID)) AND ((@BNameID IS NULL) OR (b.BNameID = @BNameID))
ive been learning Vb.net at uni. Ive never used it before and im finding it a little difficult ( supposed to be easy )i usually code in c++ and MFC Problem I have craeted the database and added all the fields to the form.
What's the syntax for an Update query for a table without a primary key?Disclaimer: Frustratingly, adding a primary key is not an option. My program is a small program in a much larger system with poor data management. My development time does not include rewriting the other software.
Note: The database is Microsoft Access.
Note: Similar to: Excel: TableAdapter UpdateCommand for table without primary key
UPDATE: Am I correct in saying, "If the table in the database has no explicit primary key, then there can be no valid TableAdapter UpdateCommand?"
I have a View that i am trying to use to fill a TableAdapter with. In my code i fill the table adapter properly the first time, filter my bindingsource and use datarowviews to loop through the rows of data and perform the updates needed (done by a stored procedure). Now the problem is, after these updates take place, i need to fill the tableadapter again so that it reflects these changes. Sometimes the View i am using will have no results, other times it may.[code]This is the exact Error "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding."Okay, you'll notice that i fill my view, then filter those results on the column Number equal to 1. I loop through all those results and update the table my view is created off of. After exiting the loop i hit the second .fill which times out after about 20 seconds. After testing, this time out only seems to occur when MyView does not hold any records.
I use Visual Studio 2010 and sqlserver 2008. All work is done in VB.NET. Also, during debugging, i paused on the second fill, went to Toad for Data Analysts and ran a SELECT * FROM MyView which did not time out and returned the empty result table in about 19 seconds. I have also tried doing a dispose on the tableadapter before the second fill but it has a similar time out. Sorry if this answer seems obvious or something, i'm only an Intern and am still learning the language. That seems to have done the trick, from my understanding that lets it run until it finishes (SQLServer will shut it down if the connection stays open longer than it allows). The ta.fill runs at about the same pace as Toad coming in around 19-20 second mark and does not error after multiple tests.
I have this MySQL Query glitch in my VB.NET program. Here is the query in VB.NET: "SELECT Points FROM user WHERE Username = '" & UsernameText.Text & "';" It will select the points column from the user table from the Username they entered. When I deploy this it will set the value for points to 0 on their account. I'm not even inserting anything in.
I am using the TableAdapter Configuration Wizard and under Advanced option I click on "Refresh the data table" and carry through to the end of the wizard. However when I run my code and want to update the dataset on the form I get the error message "Update requires a valid Update Command when passed with DataRow collection with modified rows". So, ok, when I look back at the Dataset with right click and configure I find that that the "Refresh the data table" under Advanced Options is no longer ticked, even though I had ticked it before and finished the wizard. Somewhere along the line the tableAdapter is losing this value.
Dim tbl as String = Request.QueryString("tb") 'tb value = User Dim sql As String = "Select * From @table Where @Col = @ColVal" Dim para As New SqlParameter
[Code]....
what should I do to run the sql with given table name as parameter and avoid the sql injection.
I want to paste table name as function parameter and function need to return DataSet, this is the my code for that:
Public Function GetTTabele(ByVal tableName As String) As DataSet Dim DAT As SqlDataAdapter = New SqlDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM tableName", nwindConn) Dim DAT As DataSet = New DataSet() DAT.MissingSchemaAction = MissingSchemaAction.AddWithKey DAT.Fill(DAT, tableName) GetTTabele = DAT End Function
Now when I execute this code I'm getting next error: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Invalid object name 'tableName'.
I am working on a Asp.net based project and my requiremnent is to generate a PARTNO with the combination of MaterialType+ProductID and - 4digit random number?
NOTE: ProductID is Primary key and also set it to output parameter for example If material type is 500 and product ID generated 55 and random no generated 5434, then part no become 555-5434 how could I store partno in same table, I am somewhat trying like that
Connection.Open() Dim trn As SqlClient.SqlTransaction trn = Connection.BeginTransaction Using trn
I'm creating a tool using windows form which needs to retrieve data from an Oracle database configured to use odp.net using an Oracle Stored Procedure. I'm planning to use the code below for some basic testing. The Stored Procedure is made up of a number of OUT parameters, some of which have been mapped using the datatypes available in .NET, however other parameters are defined as tables (I guess lists) and i'm not sure how to access this data
Try Dim oraConnString As String = "Data Source=*****;User Id=******;Password=******;" Dim oraConnection As New OracleConnection(oraConnString)
I am trying to execute a stored procedure which has table valued parameters along with other parameters. The only parameters I need to pass values for are latitude/longitude range and dates. For the others, I need to pass null. After a lot of searching and a lot of trial and error, I came up with the following:
Dim empty As IEnumerable = Enumerable.Empty(Of SqlDataRecord)()
I then pass empty for the table valued parameters. This works for the first two tvp's, but on the third one, I get this error:
There are no records in the SqlDataRecord enumeration. Tho send a table-valued parameter with no rows, use a null referece for the value instead.
how to make this work? I do not have control over the database or the stored procedure, so I can't change that. The code that calls the stored procedure is:
Here's the situation. Due to the design of the database I have to work with, I need to write a stored procedure in such a way that I can pass in the name of the table to be queried against if at all possible. The program in question does its processing by jobs, and each job gets its own table created in the database, IE table-jobid1, table-jobid2, table-jobid3, etc. Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about this design - I'm stuck with it.
However, now, I need to do data mining against these individualized tables. I'd like to avoid doing the SQL in the code files at all costs if possible. Ideally, I'd like to have a stored procedure similar to:
[Code]...
Is this even possible in SQL Server 2005? Alternate ways to keep the SQL out of the code behind would be welcome too, if this isn't possible.
I have a data table that I am updating. The table has 5 rows. The first row in the data table that has an ID of 1 will not update with new values, but the rest of the data table does update, I can't figure out why.
It is an access database I am updating, Is there a problem with my Update String? Because it updates all of my table except for the first row that has an ID of 1.
Dim sqlSSRTotalUpdateParameters As String = "UPDATE [SSRTotalChecker_" & FullName & "] SET [Totals]=@Totals,[Category]=@Category,[Materials]=@Materials, [Labour - Field Effort]=@LabourFE," & _ " [Labour - PMO]=@LabourPMO, [Labour - Supervision]=@LabourSuperv, [Labour - Administration]=@LabourAdmin," & _
I am trying to do an insert into a table called Policy. I keep getting an error that says parameter @Split has no default value. To try and resolve the problem, I set the default value of the split field (of type text) in the Policy table to "0" in Access 2007. I am passing in the value of a string "0" into the parameter before the insert statement executes.
Dim connection As OleDbConnection = PaulMeadeInsuranceDB.GetConnection Dim insertcommand2 As New OleDbCommand(insertStatement2, connection) connection.Open()
I am getting an incorrect repsonse after an update to a table. In my RowUpdating event I have the following code which builds an Update Parameter to call an SP to update a table. I must be doing something wrong but everything runs fine. My rowsAffected variable reports 1 after the update, but the table never gets the data.[code]I found a solution that is working. On the original DataSource for the update command I needed to add the following.[code]This in essence allows the original data source to call the SP. Note: that the command type needs to stay as TEXT not Stored Procedure as one might think.
I am working with TVP and I am trying to pass a data table to the stored procedure as TVP. When the command tries to ExecuteNonQuery it throws an error:Operand type clash: datetime2 is incompatible with int. The data for table-valued parameter "@tvpPermitWork" doesn't conform to the table type of the parameter.I checked the data table using the visualizer and I find all the data to be correct. I am now stuck and I don't have the time to change it to stored procedures with individual parameters.
Following code doesnt work and raise error "A parameter is missing. [ Parameter ordinal = 1 ]".What s wrong with it?I am developing pocket pc application in vs 2008 and sqlce 3.5 sp1.
I want to have a "template" function that can receive different parameter and a type parameter, like:[code]But Vb told me that tupeList is not defined... is there a way I can do that?
