I have a 'health check' program that I have scheduled to run every 10 minutes. When it detects a problem, it sends a message to my cell phone.
Right now I have it checking databases by connecting to them, and trying to open them - that seems to work fairly well. I also have it checking web sites but all I'm doing to test them is[code]....
I need to run different consecutive calls to a web service with no particular response needed to be read, just need execution.What is the simplest approach? I can run either asp.net or php script.

When i publish my program i choose to let the application check for updates via a website and if their is one update automatically when the program starts. Is their a way were on the main user form i can make it so that the user can change the update site with out me building the program again with the new site. I want to do this becuase the site i use goes down alot so when i changed the update url no one was able to download the update for the new update server.
View 16 RepliesI've been working on a program that generates a batch file, then when you press a button, it executes that batch file. There are multiple batch files attached to each item in the list box.

The only thing that it does when I press the button, is starts the batch file, then goes to function searchtitle, which executes the batch file again when it finds out it didn't work properly.The button text doesn't change, none of the items are being added to my first list box, and I can't do anything to the window after pressing the button. It constantly opens the batch file every 5 seconds or so.
How can I run a batch from from within vb.net?
View 4 RepliesIn class i saved my program in with load of other test programs for the same assignment and got everything mixed up i finally figured out what was what and loaded the program in Visual Basic. Now my program doesn't recognize one of my forms when i try to access the design view of it. I hit run for the hell of it and the program runs with errors of course but the form1 "the missing one" shows up with all the buttons etc and i can use it.

There are a lot of record need to be Updated, It is very efficient if that data is just going through Batch Update, meaning just one click will update all the data rather than click one by one.

I am new to VB and Visual Studio. Using VB 2010 express edition. I am making a VB project and from from inside that i want to be able to run a batch file that i already have.
My problem is i am not able to import this in my project. I tried adding it in the project from solution explorer but when i run the program its not able to find it. I am able to execute it when i copy that batch file somewhere on disk and then giving absolute path but not by including it inside my project.
I'm using Visual Studio 2010 and I have a Batch inserted into my project and cannot for the life of me get it to run with the program in someone elses computer after publish?

I want my program to grab any image on the site that the url starts with like lets say can I use wildcards on vb.net?[URL] like [a-z|A-Z|0-9] or something like that? The full url for a image smaple would be [URL]

The idea is when they click on a site all the details for the site are loaded and then a second thread sits and pings each device to see if its live. Im trying to do this in a seperate thread so if they click another site while its still pinging them it doesn't wait before it switches site. This all seems to be workling fine except if you click through the sites quickly, when you do that it will eventually come up with

I'm making a program that takes common applications and installs them silently using batch files. Someone would select the programs they would want to install and my program will write a giant batch file and execute it to install whatever they want. Heres the problem, After the user selects the programs they go into either one or two lists. Non Silent Installer List Or Silent installer list.
Some programs I have simply won't go silently so from there they can choose in what order they want to install these programs. Then there is a combo box that tells weather you want to install non silent programs first or last. From there you hit add to batch file and it would add everything in listbox1 and listbox2 in order. Listbox1 would contain just the text "MalwareBytes" for example. Along with Novell Groupwise and Firefox. How do I get that to add to the Batch List as a code and in order? So the user wants Malware bytes added first to the batch file. How do I add that to my batch list as a completely different code?

The app works fine in every detail when installed on the development computer. But, on the target computer when the command button is clicked an unhandled exception occurs which says: System.IO. I'm trying to write a vb.net program that will upload a file to a FTP site that has SSL (explicit, although I'm not sure what this means).The sample code and explanations I've Googled always assume when it's SSL that I'm using a client certificate. But I have no certificate to load.I simply need to login, accept their certificate and upload my file.When I accept their certificate am I actually installing it on the client? They tell me to use XML Parser.When I go to their web site I see the data I need to pull out there is a column with tags in front of each piece, the piece I need is between <Vr0> and </Vr0>.I have no resources other than the net currently I do have a dummies book ordered but will be at least next week (at the earliest) before my first book arrives.Can you explain how I can sort through the data and pull out the data in XML format on a web site?
View 5 RepliesI'm being asked to maintain several internal-only web apps for my company. For testing, after making my changes, I've created some staging sites which make use of separate databases. As such, if my users were to mistakenly use this site as if it were the production site, they may enter important data and wonder where it "disappeared" to thinking it was the production server.
I'd like to create a big banner of some sort across the top of the staging site (which ONLY appears on the staging site) to remind my users that they are on the test site. I'd like recommendations on the best way to do this, with the following considerations:
