The New Serialize/Deserialize For Express 2010 Not Working?

I am trying to read in an XML document, add a record with a tag for the filename and write to a different XML document.I have been told I must use serialization.
I have an XML document that I am deserializing (VB .NET 3.5 Framework), changing some values, and the serializing again. The original document has several XML Comments in it. When I go through all the deserialize/serialize all of the comments are lost. Is there a way to preserve the comments? If not, is there a way to add comments on serialization without having to walk through with the writer and manually add all of the comments back in the appropriate place?
How do I serialize and deserialize my main form (and its controls, subcontrols, their values, etc.)? Edit, for clarification. Currently I am writing the current value of each control to an .INI file, one by one and reading it back when the program is next run. Every time I add a new control, I have to remember to update that save/load .INI code.I just wondered if I can do it in one call, or a simple for loop iterating over all controls on the form.Btw, I use only simple controls like edit box, radio button, combo box, checkd listbox, the most complex thing I have is a datagrid, but even that is not linked to a databse.Accepted answer "can't. I will probably code my own, along the lines of ...
[code]...
maybe later add left/top/height/width/enabled/visible, etc, bu tfor not th econtrol name an its "value" are enough (text, value, lines, checked?, etc)
I'm trying to serialize/deserialize data in vb. I've made a .dat file from a blank plain text file (not sure if this is suitable) which seems to connect ok, as do both the classes. Here's the
I am trying to write a class to serialize/deserialize something as simple as:
<table border="1"> <tr> <td>row 1, cell 1</td>
[Code]....
I just can't get it to serialize to this thing. I tried to generate the class using xsd but that produced a lot of garbage code and I really would like to maintain this by hand as it is easier than the monstrosity that xsd produced which didn't work anyway.
I have a 2 collection of varying objects. Let's say I have the following two objects Private col1 as Collection(Of A) and Private col2 as Collection(Of B) But object of Type A has a collection of Type B as an Attribute. so A looks like that
I have an ArrayList in android that I'm trying to convert to a Base64 String, then passing that to a wcf service though JSON and the wcf service inserts the string into a database. Then I need to be able to read that from the database and deserialize it in a .NET application.
This is how I am serializing the ArrayList in android:
The ultimate goal is to be able to be able to create a list of these shapes in the .NET app or android app and be able to read the list in the .NET app and android app no matter where it was created from. I'm able to it when you create the Shape from .NET and read it into android using WCF but creating it in android.
I have a question about serializing a Picturebox and it's child controls. I have a picturebox on my main form where a user can put new Picture boxes in.To a add a new Picturebox I say: Pictureboxmain.controls.add(Picturebox)But now I want to serialize this in a stream of bytes. I know that you can serialize an Arraylist as followed:[code]But is the same possible with a collection of controls? So now I tried this assuming the same method can be used with a control collection:[code]
The general idea of whats going on is i am trying to transfer a structure from one project to another using binary and sending through a TCP Stream. What I Did:In my server i serialized the structure Maps(Map) to a temp file. Then I read all the bytes from the temp file to my buffer and sent it off to my client project.
Initially my app worked with excel fine, now it causes my computer to reboot only after Excel has been opened (two or more times). I have opened and closed Excel files 20+ times without running thru either of my apps (they all uses identical code for excel) and it has never caused a reboot or a crash.
run either of my apps and have the app control excel has become a crap shoot, it will reboot my computer. Adding to that I then have to do a manual shutdown because the reboot process after is unstable. (System doesn't respond properly). My code in this app is small, should make for a good example. I can provide the entire project to anyone who would volunteer to test it. (First I need to know how to send the project).
I have a button on a form that is supposed to run an executable (compiled Intel Fortran v11) on the click event. Here is the code:
Private Sub RunButton_Click() Handles RunButton.Click Try System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("C: estDir estCode.exe")
[Code]....
I'm certain the path is correct and I have verified that running the testCode.exe from the cmd window works as it should (testCode.out file is updated). When I try to run the process via the RunButton it appears to work...no errors are reported or caught. However, the expected output file is not updated indicating testCode.exe did not execute. All of the online support I have researched indicates this should work.
Private Sub MakeMeSomeXmlBeforeRyanGetsAngry() Dim db As New MyDBDataContext Dim customer = From c In db.Customers Select c
[code]....
I am attempting to serialize my linq collection of customers. But it keeps throwing
Type 'System.Data.Linq.DataQuery`1[MyDB.Customer]' cannot be serialized. Consider marking it with the DataContractAttribute attribute, and marking all of its members you want serialized with the DataMemberAttribute attribute. See the Microsoft .NET Framework documentation for other supported types. My issue is that I have already marked the dbml Serialization Mode to UniDirectional and when I check the dbml codebehind all of the DataContract()> and DataMember()> elements are there. I have tried adding various dataloadoptions and setting deferredloading to false, but no luck.
If a class is serialized and has events fired from it that are handled on a form you get the error "Form1 cannot be serialized" in c# you can use (to work around this):
I am trying to make a user account SQL database work with Visual Basic 2008 Express for login purposes, i.e. usernames & passwords. Plan is to host this server so people can login to use the the application and verify they have a valid account. I would like to host all the account information in SQL due to the possiblity of hundreds of users at any given time. I also need the ability to add data to the database for users registering for the first time. The SQL server will need to be able to access the SQL Server databases remote via WAN.
I tried to start using VB 2010 Express with a program I originally developed with VB 2005 Express that I moved to VB 2008 Express successfully a couple years ago. It uses a database file (*.mdf) that is on the computer ( not out on a server). When attempt to run the program in debug mode, I get the following error "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsTomMy DocumentsQuizzing StuffQuestion Database 2010QuizQuest ionGameQuizQuestionGameinReleaseQuizQuestionDB.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."
I first made a copy of the entire project folder that was working in VB 2008 Express and gave it a different name. In VB2010 I opened the project in the copied folder and it said it successfully converted the project. I am able to open the Data Source inthe Designer and see the database structure as I expect. I think the project is still using SQL Server 2005 Express (because it is what is checked in the list of prerequisites on the Publish tab).
Note, I have programmed off and on for many years, but fairly new to using databases and SQL Server.
Here is the scoop: I am trying to make a user account SQL database work with Visual Basic 2008 Express for login purposes, i.e. usernames & passwords. I am trying to re write a VB6 program using MS Access, many years ago, using VB 2010 express and SQL server 2008 R2 Express. I have a database with several tables, which I created using the designer. I am able to connect to the database and select data and display it in textboxes etc in vb code. What I have not been able to in code is to INSERT rows DELETE rows or UPDATE any data in the tables. I can do any of these operations using the Query Designer, but I want to do it in code. I can post some code if necessiary, but I thought it might just be some property that I had not set in the designer.
Is VB Express 2010 slower to compile and run that older versions of VB Express? I've installed it this weekend and it seems a little sluggish on my quad core computer with 1 gig of RAM. I have VB Express 2005 installed for my students at school and it seems to fly just fine. Those school computers are older P4s with 512k of RAM.
there Dream in Code Community! Im an okay programmer as far as skill right now I am still learning as we all are I need some help from some experienced VB.NET programmers in the community, Here is the scoop: I am trying to make a user account SQL database work with Visual Basic 2008 Express for login purposes, i.e. usernames & passwords.
i tried to set background image in ListView. but i could not find any option there to fit the image to the ListView like it can be done in Form Zoom, Stretch etc.
And here I am with a new problem in my program When I debug it everything works fine (the buttons, progressbars, pinger, spambot, When I compile it and run the Executable file, it works too. When I run the Executable file on another computer (tried on 4 different ones) the program stops working and I get this error:
{$ exception. "Failed to create the form For more information, see Exception.InnerException error: File or assembly ." Microsoft.VisualBasic.PowerPacks, Version = 9.0.0.0, Culture = neutral, PublicKeyToken = b03f5f7f11d50a3a "or one of its dependencies not found. The system can not find the file specified .."} System.Exception {System.InvalidOperationException}
I cannot get the VB monthcalendar control to obey any of the properties I set for it, or the commands I give it programatically. It works (sort of - but with obvious bugs) in the state it arrives when copied to a new form straight out of the toolbox, eg when I click on a date etc, however if I set the background colour in Properties (or programatically), or try to change the BoldedDates programatically (as per numerous examples I have found) it ignores me!
I can create a brand new project, new form, add the monthcalendar out of the toolbox, change its properties in the Properties window, & when I run it the changed properties (eg background colour) are totally ignored.
